Thanks or knows?  Hell, he probably knows it'll happen after a loss on Saturday.

It's a race between him and Freeze for who gets shitcanned before the end of 2025.  Pittman took gold, now we wait to see who takes silver.

As I’ve mentioned Florida is my 2nd favorite school so I know more about them than most on here. This game will get ugly fast. They have no more fight left in them and are going to be without their entire starting defensive line. They are a decent running team but Napier is quite literally too stupid to lean into that dynamic, and Lagway is both injured and mentally broken, and overrated. They really need a new coach and a roster overhaul to be a competitive program again, if you look at their schedule it’s hard to see anything other than a 2-10 or 3-9 finish. Arch and the offense are finally clicking and I expect a close 1st quarter to give way to the blowout in the 2nd. 35-3 Texas.

I'm going to ignore the obvious joke that y'all have correctly highlighted, and instead I'm going to go with the gem bolded above.

Here's an article where Sun Belt Billy is basically caught either lying or completely clueless about injury, this one being to rotational Nickel Back, Aaron Gates. SBB announces yesterday that Gates will be back soon and they have good injury news on him. Today they announce that Gates has a torn labrum and will be undergoing shoulder surgery tomorrow, likely ending his season. There's other injury news in the article, including mentioning that starting DT Bett has a knee injury from the Miami game and isn't working out. That's like the 4th or 5th DL to go down.

Fans and reports are not happy on their 247 site with one reporter implying that Napier is so checked out, he hasn't been paying attention to his staff's injury updates.

Spoiler

Florida STAR nickel cornerback Aaron Gates will undergo surgery on the labrum in his left shoulder, multiple sources told Swamp247.

Gates was injured in Florida's 26-7 loss at Miami and was later observed in a sling. He did not return to the contest.

Gates' surgery comes as a bit of surprise considering head coach Billy Napier's comments Monday, when he suggested the team had received "good news" about the redshirt sophomore's injury.

"We'll give you the injury report. We do anticipate potentially getting Aaron back. So, but that's going to be day-to-day depending on kind of how that goes," Napier said. "But I think we got good news on that front and then obviously you'll get an injury report Wednesday night."

Gates has logged seven tackles over four games this season, in a rotation at STAR with junior Sharif Denson.

Gates mounted a miraculous comeback to Florida's secondary this offseason after suffering a torn ACL in his right knee against Ole Miss last November, which ended his 2024 season and required surgery.

It marked the second ACL tear of Gates' football career, after he injured his left knee during his senior season at Sharpsburg (Ga.) Trinity Christian.

Yet, roughly eight months later, Gates was back out on the practice fields with the Gators on the day Florida opened its fall training camp ahead of the 2025 season. The UF coaching staff intended to ease him into action and closely monitor his activity level, but Gates did so without a no-contact jersey. He was ready to play.

Gates credited his previous experience with the injury as a benefit that allowed him to recover as quickly as he did this time around.

"Going through it before definitely played a big role," Gates explained in August. "I had experience, and it just feels easier mentally to handle it, knowing what was going on, what to expect. So I feel like that gave me an advantage, helped me just work at it every day."

Over 10 appearances and four starts at nickel cornerback in 2024, splitting the first-team role with Denson, Gates tallied 27 total tackles with four for loss, one interception, four defended passes and two fumble recoveries.

Gates was one of several Florida players to go down injured against Miami in Week 4.

Starting junior cornerback Dijon Johnson injured the meniscus in his right knee, which required season-ending surgery; starting redshirt senior wide receiver J. Michael Sturdivant exited the game after taking a big hit with an apparent upper-body injury; starting defensive tackle Brendan Bett went down with an apparent right knee injury and did not return to the contest.

Florida will release its first of four Southeastern Conference-mandated availability reports on Wednesday ahead of its Saturday matchup with No. 9 Texas.

Man I feel bad for Napier at this point. Put him out of his misery already. This feels like when the reporter asked Charlie Strong what it means for his career at Texas when he lost to Kansas and he started to tear up.

is it an issue of honesty or competence in this case.

the difference being with venebales we know he's a dirt burgler trying to game the injury reports. but i dont think any doubt he's aware of a realistic timeline

for napier - it seems like he's so wildly disorganized or checked out, he actually has no clue, is mixing up injuries , and just bracing for his exit at this stage

I'm of the opinion that this game sets up as a dead cat bounce for Lagway and the gators. They're not stupid. They know their coach is likely toast. Lagway knows he's getting dragged by his own team's fanbase and the Internet. They're finally back at home and they get to play a team/brand that never lacks for hype. They have no special disdain or reason to not like Texas, but they're tired of all of the bullshit and Texas is as good of a brand as any to try and exorcise some demons.

That doesn't mean Texas will lose or come in unprepared or scared. Texas has an advantage over most teams when it comes to road preparation, simply related to the volume of tough, big away games these guys have played. Texas will also be tired of beating up on themselves and the sisters of the poor they've been playing. They also need to show everybody something and shut some of the noise up for their own mental health.

So I'm expecting a true rock fight with Texas ultimately prevailing due to better health, better talent and depth, and better coaching. I will be stunned by Texas blowing Florida out and stunned if Florida really has stereotypically just quit on their coach and program. I know they're in basically the same spot as Arkansas last week, but surely these guys have more pride than that, right?

Might want to bet under, hope Texas takes right cleats for rain and our offense plays well...   need a good start, limit penalties, make more 1st downs, protect the ball, control field position, and take the points when necessary...

Field likely to be wet, and might rain during game in Gainesville

This is irritating. If we're dealing with multiple weather delays while trying to enjoy this game in a Las Vegas sports book, we'll likely lose the game coverage and never get it back on a TV once it's gone.

Yeah but they also lost to A&M which is far more embarrassing. That's got to be the one that gets their dander up.

I guess. I have heard UF guys from last year forward, players, SBB, Doering and Rutledge, other talking heads discussing them, and the Texas game never comes up. Not once. It’s like it didn’t happen because they were wracked with injuries.

I’m kind of torn about revenge as a motivator and what it can unlock in sports. Against a rival is one thing, but against a random conference foe? I just remember Galveston Ball beating us 51-3, and 34-0 my first two years on varsity. My senior year, they came to see us finally and our coach picked that as the Homecoming game for revenge. “Payback’s a motherfucker!!” we screamed as we ran through the paper banner onto the field. Walking off the field losing 69-14, I’m just not sure the revenge angle made all that much of a difference when they were better coached and far more talented.

They’re still a talented team. They have a QB who has flashed dynamism on the field, albeit last year before adding a shoulder injury and 25 pounds of bad weight.

I hope everyone here is right, to be sure.

The problem is, sometimes muddy fields are so bad that 1/2-inch cleats aren't enough, but that's the NCAA rule limit.

The NFL gets to use up to 3/4-inch cleats.

Ian Boyd: Can Texas’ offense crack Florida’s bend-but-don’t-break defense?

Quote

Texas’ trip to the Swamp to face the Florida Gators will be a critical test for the Longhorn offense. The Longhorns’ poor offensive performances against Ohio State and UTEP were alarming, as both teams used conservative defenses to limit the passing game. Steve Sarkisian struggled to generate momentum in either game without consistent big plays through the air.

Texas should expect a focused, similar game plan from the Florida Gators, who are coming off a bye week with a coaching staff under pressure to avoid dismissal. This will be Florida’s fifth game, after which the Gators could fire the staff for poor performance without risking significant roster losses to redshirting or the transfer portal. Beyond those considerations, the Gators already favor a two-high Quarters coverage to create a ‘bend don’t break’ defensive approach. If Texas struggles to secure a win in the Swamp, it will likely stem from an inability to score against this defensive style.

The 2025 Florida defense

Here’s the statistical profile for the Gators’ defense through their first four games, where they’ve gone 1-3 despite allowing only 18, 20, and 26 points in their three losses:

PPG     DFEI YPA     YPC     YPP     3rd down %   Turnovers
16.0 .40 (16th)     6.7 3.4 4.8 39.13% (73rd)     0.7 (105th)

Despite their two-high coverage structure, Florida’s run defense is solid, but they’ve struggled to fully neutralize opposing passing games. Their preferred Quarters coverage does offer opportunities for passing attacks. Defensive coordinator Ron Roberts primarily uses ‘MEG Quarters,’ which features press-man coverage outside from the cornerbacks (the cornerback’s rule is “man everywhere he goes”) while the safeties, positioned flat-footed at around 10 yards, cover inside receivers on deep routes.

Sarkisian exploited the Gators last year with post-wheel route combinations that their injury-depleted secondary struggled to cover. It’s possible to capitalize on Florida’s reliance on man coverage for vertical routes. Teams like Miami and USF have had some success running the ball against the Gators. However, it’s optimistic to expect the Longhorns to dominate Florida’s front in the Swamp.

While consistent gains are possible, explosive runs are difficult due to the Quarters safeties, Jordan Castell and Bryce Thornton. Castell, the field safety, brings length and range. Thornton, listed at 5-foot-10, 210 pounds, is the primary box fitter, aligning in the boundary to stay close to the action.

Florida’s defense does struggle to generate turnovers and stop third downs, the two pillars of an effective ‘bend don’t break’ approach. Their linebacker blitzes have failed to produce consistent pressure, and despite 14 pass break-ups this season, they’ve secured only two interceptions. This disparity suggests potential for a breakout game, but neither Castell nor nickel Sharif Denson has recorded a break-up or interception, limiting Florida’s ability to shift this trend.

The Gators’ defensive front hasn’t dominated but performs better than their 1-3 record suggests. Field edge Tyreak Sapp, comparable to Texas’ Ethan Burke, excels at setting a strong edge, rushing the passer, or clogging the interior in various fronts. He’s most dangerous on the perimeter, using his size to bully offensive tackles and tight ends. While Florida’s 3-down fronts have been less effective against the run, Texas has struggled against similar schemes, so the Gators may lean on these looks.

Winning matchups

A key matchup will be Texas’s outside receivers, Parker Livingstone and Ryan Wingo, against Florida’s cornerbacks. If the Gators’ press-man coverage prevents deep shots, they can free up the safeties to significantly disrupt Texas’s offense.

Another critical matchup is how effectively the Longhorns can target boundary safety Bryce Thornton. At 210 pounds, he’s less effective covering receivers on vertical routes than playing downhill or fitting the run. Can he handle players like DeAndre Moore, Jack Endries, or Ryan Niblett on wheel routes to the boundary? Texas’s use of cheat motion will test the Gators’ secondary’s ability to assign coverage correctly and prevent receivers from breaking free.

Finally, Steve Sarkisian vs Ron Roberts. If Roberts has a flaw it’s that his defense is somewhat static and easy to predict pre-snap. Sark will comfortably know what he’s going to get from the Gators pretty often and can consequently dial up a lot of shots for Arch Manning to take. If Texas’ signal-caller is a little more composed on the road in this outing than he’s been in some of the other games this year, there’s no reason Texas shouldn’t be able to get a few scores on the board when they have Florida dead to rights by play-call.

Overall, Florida presents a significant test for Texas’s offense against a defense prioritizing pass coverage. If the Gators deploy a base 4-down Flyover package, as many college teams have adopted, it will pose a tougher challenge but also a critical opportunity to test drive some solutions to that scheme. Texas’s defense should keep the game within reach, but without a sharper offensive performance, the Longhorns risk dropping their first SEC road game of the season.

Last stand at the Swamp for the Gators. We’ll get their best game and crowd will be hyped.  The Swamp is built deep into the ground, and it traps the noise on the field. I’ve been there when the Gators were rolling under Spurrier and it’s the only place I’ve been where the crowd noise feels like a physical force pressing in your ear drums. If Arch gets off to another slow start and the crowd gets to him, this is going to get dicey. If we can get off to a good start and grab a big lead by the half, they will quit and the place will empty out by the third quarter. I’ll call it 17-13 Texas.

The spread is UT -7 and that seems low to me. UF offense is one of the worst in the P4 conferences and they are facing one of the best defenses in the country. If UT can manage 21 points, Texas will cover easily.

Florida was only +7.5 at Miami a few weeks ago. Obviously, Miami covered, but it was a 13-7 game with 4 minutes to go in the 4th quarter. I'm sure Florida has been downgraded some more in the Vegas power ratings stuff since that game, but Texas -6.5/7 seems about right if you factor in home field.

Just piggy backing here, but playing armchair sports psychologist, they lost to South Florida and then lost to two rivals in LSU and Miami. Then a bye. Now they have Texas at home followed by traveling to A&M. Not sure if there's a spike in motivation here, especially with a road A&M game next. Seems like just another tough game in a tough as shit schedule after they lost to a shitty in-state school and then two rivals.

Just feels like a bad spot for Florida. Theyre leaking oil and beat up. We've been getting bad press after tripping out of the gate a bit. Had a chance to get healthy, preach a chip onto our shoulder, and basically start a brand new season. Solid game here changes the narrative and Im sure the coaches know we need it heading into OU. No way to not be worried about the OL, but even there I gotta wonder if we are actually this bad or just had poor effort in games we werent worried about losing.

Of course there's one possibility out there that I think is in the back of all of our minds, we just wont bring that up.
