Went to SEC championship and Sugar Bowl last year.  Not to rain on your parade, but Atlanta sucks and the College Football HOF is terrible. I think Falcons game would be fun, but I would skip the HOF.  Good restaurant for breakfast is Atlanta Breakfast Club and Poor Calvin’s is a real good Asian place for dinner.

From what I remember working a couple days in Athens several years ago....Athens makes west campus look like Beverly Hills.  West campus is dumpy, congested with too many new structures built on top of or next to older run down places.  Athens is basically the same but uglier.  To use a nicer word, Athens is gritty and on gameday there is trash/garbage everywhere.  On the other hand, the eye candy is second to none.

I disagree about the CFB HOF.  I went to the one in South Bend in 1995 when Texas played up there.  It was ok, but not great.

I think what they have done in Atlanta is much better, and while it's not something I would go to Atlanta to visit, it is worth seeing if you are in Atlanta and looking for something to do.  Definitely worth spending a couple of hours if you are a fan of the sport (which I'll assume you are if you are going to Athens to watch the Horns).

The Aquarium is cool also.  (csb... in March of 2020 we visited the aquarium culminating in the show in their big auditorium filled with hundreds of school kids, basically the next day Covid shut down the world  I remember thinking if my last public event was a show at the Atlanta aquarium I probably should have reevaluated my life choices. /csb)

Wish I was going next week.  Should be a fun trip.

I was in Atlanta over the summer. I recommend the CFB HOF. It uses an RFID tag on your badge to spin up Longhorn stuff first at each exhibit for you. Also, the list of National Championships per team correctly listed Texas A&M with one in 1939.

Go eat lunch or dinner at Mary's Mac Tea Room. Yes, it's a restaurant!!

I did not see a thread, so I thought I would start one.  Who all is going to make the trip to Athens in a couple of weeks?  My current plan is to attend both the UGA game and the Falcons-Panthers game the next day (go Bijan!).  I'm thinking I will try to hit up the College Football HOF on Monday before I leave town.  Anyone with any great ideas/suggestions?  I have been to Atlanta for work a few times, but pretty much just the downtown/Georgia Tech area.

Also - The guys I was going to go with ended up bailing recently, but I am going anyway, so if any Texas fan(s) are interested in meeting up for either game, I would love to attend with some friendly faces.  I generally wait until the day of/day before the game to get tickets, as they almost always go down as you get closer to game time, but I am not wedded to that strategy.

Its A Trap GIF

@Nicole44 nice try

Seems like every time we play in GA, I go out of town.  I'm flying out next Thursday so will wave to you guys who come in early.

Aquarium is legit.  Coca-cola museum right next door I've never actually been to, but it'salways packed.

Foxx Bros is the only decent BBQ you'll find in the state, but it's honestly skippable if you are from Texas.

Also Atlanta  <> Athens.   They are 90 min apart by car

This as well.  And, honestly, if I were staying a couple extra days and making it a mini-cation I'd do Chattanooga and bite the 3 hr drive.

The Tennessee Aquarium is really good. Ruby Falls is always on our list as well.

Downtown Athens can be fun, but there’s definitely a different mix than West Campus. It’s like they have the drag across from campus (Broad St.) with 6th Street (Clayton St.) directly behind it. It will be crowded everywhere all weekend.

If you want to grab dinner in that general downtown area, Last Resort and Chucks are good options, but you should get on the list by 4:30 if you want a shot at getting seated by 8:30. Same for some restaurants in the Five Points area.

Granted, it's been almost 20 years since I lived in Athens, so I'm not familiar with all the latest bars/restaurants, but Last Resort has always been a good choice for lunch or dinner.  In general, as you walk from the Arch (northern edge of Campus) and cross Broad Street, if you go right, that's frat bro territory, and if you go left, that's the more  "alternative" area, culminating in the GA Theatre, 40 Watt Club and the Globe, close to the western edge of downtown.   The Globe has a very 90s selection of import and craft beers (one of the few places you can get Fullers ESB on draught) @HenryJames along with terrible service and so-so food.  Other places I've been lately - Creature Comforts tap room (NW downtown) and Trappeze Pub (west side as well).

If you're not afraid to branch out a little, Athens' other brewery, Akademia, has great food and a chill atmosphere, but it's far from campus, near the mall.

I haven't made it in here yet, but it's a cool looking space. And I've had many Classic City Lagers at various places around town.

Since I’m already here in Metro Atlanta I might have to bite the bullet and sit on the Georgia side of the stadium. Hopefully there’s some other Longhorns on that side as well

Chattanooga rocks, and it’s more like a 2:15 drive unless you’re hitting rush hour either way
