I don’t know what the ones on SEC Rant are saying but the Tennessee fans I’ve heard/read are black pilled, expecting 7-5, and proclaiming that Heupel needs to, at a minimum, fire his DC, give up playcalling responsibilities. The more strident ones have hit the “he’s never going to win us a championship” stage and are ready to blow it all up.

I definitely agree with you on Oregon.  They are getting a lot of benefit of the doubt due right now considering their signature win was the Penn State game.  They may be good, but their resume is definitely not one that matches their current ranking.

The Big Ten has too many teams.  Its ridiculous how many of the teams at the top of the conference do not play each other.

Biggest lesson learned is I’ll never listen to another 9.95er ever again. They know as much as most posters here.

Clemson. Penn state.  Texas greatest ever.
klubnick and sellers heisman favs

basically every prediction made was wrong.  Which is why college football is awesome.

its going to finish in a cluster F of mayhem and im here for it.

I am not at all following the logic that the bottom six of the Big XII is better than the bottom six of the SEC.

Auburn beat the dog out of Baylor, which is not at the bottom of the Big XII.  Their defense hasn’t given up more than 24 all year and is legit good (most Auburn stat season ever). MSU beat ASU, which is a mid to good Big XII team. Florida and UK can be plenty dangerous. Arkie has played ranked teams close all year.

Now with fired coaches and turmoil all bets are off. But the bottom of the Big XII wining games against the middle of the Big XII does nothing for me. The top through middle of the SEC is really fucking good. I’ll buy AZ and Iowa State as decent teams but UCF on down is not good at all.

The B1G is an absolute joke, let's be honest.  The bottom of the B1G is so fucking bad, it's comical.

It should be a 2-bid league - Ohio State and Indiana - when all is said and done.  I don't buy Oregon and their signature win is ASS.

You do have to put 12 teams in the playoff.

If not for the WTF loss to Florida in a “win one for the gipper” game (that only delayed Napier’s exit), I’d feel pretty damn good about this season.

We’re in a win or go home scenario for the playoffs. 2008 taught us we’re capable of being left out for a bad loss. Well, if Arch wants a legacy and a high draft pick- everything is still able to be earned. Go win it.

Re Iowa, I was at the Minnesota game a couple of weeks ago and they're actually good.  Well coached, fundamentally sound, good tackling and I'd volunteer helo to give unlimited hand jobs to get their offensive line.   They're just lacking speed and explosive players, so basically they're your standard upper middle class Big 10 team.

Tldr- i see them giving Oregon trouble in Iowa city this weekend.

I'll just take this opportunity to again once say ND is overrated.

Their best win is USC , who is not currently ranked.

They lost to a flailing Miami who probably won't finished ranked.

Having ND above Texas , and a handful of other similarly ranked teams is horse shit

I agree that Iowa is a really solid team this year, with offensive competence added to usual solid defense and ST. I’d love to see them win out and get into the PO.

Notre Dame is a good team. They are well-coached, I think Love is a top-3 player in CFB and theu no glaring holes. They aren’t a NC contender but can put a scare in good teams in the PO. I have difficulty saying that anyone behind them for sure belongs in front but I do think they’re much better than a BYU or Virginia. I don’t over-index the early loss to a Jekyll and Hyde Miami that always starts strong under Cristobal and that has a roster to play with anyone when you get good Beck. USC is, in fact, ranked at the moment.

Clearly, transfers are here to stay and you better do well in the portal. There are different paths to that but no one currently looked at as a real NC contender is there without doing a good job in the portal.

Maybe. But lots of cannibalism still left for those teams:

Ore - @ Iowa, vs Min, vs USC, @ Wash

Mich - @ NW, @ Md, vs OhioSt

Iowa - vs Ore, @ USC, vs Mich St, @ Neb

USC - vs NW, vs Iowa, @ Ore, vs UCLA

Wash - @ Wisc, vs Purdue, @ UCLA, vs Ore

What is Texas current opponents combined conference record?

So I know how to judge a&m 6-20 properly.

If you look at all of two loss teams, it could be argued that Texas has the best resume of the bunch.  I agree that ND is very overrated off of two close losses and one decent win.

Here are some things I believe.  No evidence or data provided.

Georgia is the best team in CFB.  I put their odds at winning everything at 40/60.

Iowa will beat Oregon

The ACC is underrated.  They might not have the linemen that the big 2 have, they absolutely have the skill people and QBs.

The Big 12 is the weakest of the 4.

While I agree with the premise, aggy could give a shit if they get smoked in the CFP. They’ll be more than happy just to be there.

Same for Indiana.

I think Oregon fans would very happy with 2 straight CFP appearances, but I think they need to win a game. Probably beat down a North Texas type team in Round 1, and get rolled in the quarterfinals.

aggy is fool's gold.  Their "signature" win over ND will prove to be smoke & mirrors once the playoffs start.  Then you have the obvious 6-20 conference wins/losses.

Then you have next year.  They graduate a ton of key starters, and have to play Alabama, LSU, Missouri, Oklahoma, & South Carolina on the road.

I’m an Aggie. I’ll offer my best objective take, which I don’t think is any more or maybe less biased than the prevailing opposite bias around here.

If we win at Mizzou I’ll take a breath. Not that Mizzou with 3rd QB is awesome but: at that point you’re at least 10-2 and almost for sure in the PO. If Texas embarrasses us completely in Austin that could change the calculus but barring that I feel like the program has taken a significant step to sounder footing. Reed getting hurt could happen and upset the whole thing.

I’m happy with the recruiting and more so with the transfer portal. So far Scourton, Howell, Craver, Concepcion, Will Lee, Armaj-Reed have been superb takes where we need them. Ricks, Scooby, Hayes, and to a lesser extent Boerkircher have contributed. I don’t worry about the ability to patch holes with the staff and the people we lost haven’t been sorely missed.

I assume Elko stays and likely gets a raise. I imagine Klein has a better than even chance to get a HC gig. I’ve been happy with Elko’s hires and the staff overall.

Next year is next year. No one has any idea what LSU looks like, if Eli sticks around or bolts to Auburn or something, and how OU fixes their shit. Florida and LSU looked like 2/3 of our biggest hurdles on 1 August. So yeah, 10-2 and in the CFP is something to build on. 11-1 and SEC CCG appearance is better. 12-0 for sure would be best. Gun to my head, I’d say 11-1 is most likely.

This is reasonable. I mean, you’ve already cleared the 8-4 bar, so that alone has to be considered a success

9-3 is too close to 8-4 especially with Samford on the schedule.

I'll see your B1G and raise you ACC.

We've discussed it on several threads but there isn't a school in that conference, not one, that would concern me like Georgia. I say that and note, I don't think Georgia is even that good this year. I'd give up our bye week to play Virgina and be confident with a win.

And if you're familiar with my work, I'm not a sunshine pumper by any measure.

-Indiana finishes its season, @ PSU, vs Wisconsin, and @ Purdue. They're going 12-0. I think they're really good, but I also think the mask is about to be pulled off of Oregon (more on them in a second) and Illinois has also been proven a fraud.

  Reveal hidden contents

-On Oregon, they've gotten the benefit of the doubt all season that they're some sort of force and inarguably a 3rd playoff team for the CFP. Further scrutiny is merited. They played FCS Montana State, the worst Okie State team (1-8) in decades, and Oregon State (2-7) in the OOC. Unlike Indiana, I do give them credit for trying to have a beefier OOC by having both Okie State and Oregon State on the schedule. Nonetheless, those are bad teams this year and those outcomes tell us nothing. In conference, they've beaten NW (3-2), Penn State (0-5), Rutgers (1-5) and Wisconsin (0-5). They lost at home by double digits to Indiana. We know nothing about this team. We're about to find out. Coming up? @ Iowa, Minnesota (a decent team with a good defense), USC, and @ UW. If they're 11-1 after those 4, cool. I won't be surprised by 9-3 and then the Big 10 begging for a 9-3 entry themselves.

-The SEC version of "Just a fly in the ointment, Hans" is already Florida for Texas, but could be just the same for Ole Miss, Tennessee and FSU in various ways. The jungle drums are also starting to beat somewhat loudly in the distance for Mark Stoops, whose UK Wildcats host UF this weekend. Ole Miss appears ready to coast to an 11-1 record unless UF or Mississippi State do something. Tennessee fans are clinging to the notion that beating Vanderbilt and going 9-3 gets them a backdoor entry into the CFP. After their performance last year, good luck getting the benefit of the doubt. Norvell is hanging by the thinnest of threads at FSU and a loss to a HC-less Florida team could cause the emotions to kick in and then here comes the $50+M buyout.

-The combined conference record of the SEC teams that ATM has beaten is 6-20. People are talking these guys up as a legitimate national title contender because of that ND win on the road in which it appeared an angry god intervened in order to give that win to the aggies. The rollercoaster might reach new heights this year, given that Missouri will be starting a true freshman at QB, FCS Samford is bad even by FCS standards (1-8), and South Carolina is incompetent on offense. That shouldn't change anyone's view about Texas' chances against these idiots to close the year. It kind of sets up perfectly for ATM to be doing their typical and presumptuous chest-beating heading into that game.

-The bottom 6 of the Big 12 is demonstrably better than either the SEC or Big 10. Their combined conference record is 7-27. Not much of a record difference between those teams and the SEC, but they have better skins on the wall in the OOC and will likely feature 2-3 bowl teams. Arizona (2-3) is 5-3 overall with an "OOC" win over KSU. They were blown out @ ISU, but their other two losses were by one score to BYU and @ UH. They close with KU, @ Cincy, Baylor, and @ ASU (without Leavitt). Anything from 6-6 to 9-3 is easy to see. ISU is on a bizarre 4 game losing streak that includes CU. The only double digit loss was home to BYU. They still get Okie State to close the year. They beat Iowa in the OOC. UCF beat UNC, WVU beat Pitt.

-Baylor fans are starting to shriek about wanting to see Dave Aranda driven to the city limit of Waco and then thrown out of a moving car. Baylor is 5-4 but they close out getting Utah, @ Arizona, and Houston. 5-7 is highly plausible. I don't think Aranda is generally a bad coach. He's not elite, but he seems to handling the developmental cycles of coaching at a place like Baylor in a decent manner. Is Traylor going to be that much more effective? If Aranda is punted, he'll be a solid to excellent DC for a helmet school almost certainly.

-There's almost nothing redeeming about the bottom 6 of the ACC. 7-25 in conference, with 6 of those wins coming against one of the other 6. The only OOC outcome from the group worth noting is the now headscratching double digit win by FSU over Bama.

-The ACC's overall OOC is generally a laughingstock. Outside of the FSU win over Bama, the other big OOC wins are Miami over ND and NCSU over "OOC" opponent UVA. 6-11 against P4 teams overall. There are shots at redemption - GT beating UGA, 3 teams left to play ND and Pitt could do it, and I guess the rivalry games against SCar, UK, and Florida would matter to someone? How this conference gets more than one team into the CFP is beyond me. Even a 11-2 CCG loser would not have a resume to support the entry. Maybe a 10-2 Miami if ND, USF, Pitt, and UF otherwise win out. Or, maybe Pitt if they close by beating ND, @ Ga Tech, and Miami to go 10-2.

I kind of long for the days when I could count on Wisconsin to fuck up either Michigan's or Ohio State's season.  Alas, these days are heavily in the rear view mirror

Dante Moore can singlehandedly win you a game against anyone.  And singlehandedly lose you a game against anyone.

So are we making the argument for a 5 SEC team berth because last year was 3. Non SEC types will lose their shit.

I'm curious who Big Ten fans would even offer as a fourth team.

The only scenarios I can think of where the B1G gets 4 would be if Michigan wins out (plays OSU) or Washington wins out (plays Oregon). Both unlikely.

Iowa/USC/Oregon all play each other so 2 of those are pretty much guaranteed to be knocked out.
