Twelve killed in shooting targeting Jewish community at Australia's Bondi Beach

I don't necessarily disagree with what you have written. Just want to add that hatred of Hindus and Jews is not some special version of Islam that they get they get access to in more religiously free societies.

They very textbooks in Pakistan are filled with explicit bigotry towards all non-believers but especially the Hanood (polytheist Hindus) and Yahood (Jews). This is well studied and documented. The very motto of Pakistan Army (which is the all powerful organization in Pakistan, as I am sure you are aware) calls for "Jihad in service of Allah", and no they are not talking about spiritual struggle.

So it would be more accurate to say that that,in free and open societies like Australia, UK and US, these nutjobs get an opportunity to act on their brainwashing because they have easy access to people they have been brainwashed to hate since as you correctly note, they have all but eliminated all other minorities in their own country.

This is a good post and I think I need to refine my take a bit. While the official, state-sponsored version of Islam in many Arab, Gulf, and South Asian states provides a scaffolding of intolerance and hatred for other faiths and minorities, it stops short at providing the motives and encouragement to actually become a militant or terrorist.

Pakistan is a bit of a special example in that it is more willing to play with the hot stove of terrorism that most Gulf states have abandoned and views militant networks in Afghanistan and India as strategic assets even as it fights its own Pakistani Taliban. It is worth noting that the harshest forms of official Pakistani prejudice are aimed at unsatisfactory Muslims: the “apostate” Ahmadi and to a lesser extent the suspiciously tolerant Ismaili.

But in all cases, state-sanctioned Islam, even of the extreme conservative bent, pulls up short of encouraging the type of nihilistic militancy of ISIS or AQ, for good reason: these groups have extreme hostility to the governments that don’t walk the walk and are pragmatic when dealing with the kaffir great powers. And proponents of ISIS-style militant Islam are not long for the world in places where an official Islam exists.

Which leads to an odd situation where the most fertile recruiting and proselytizing zones for nihilistic militant Islam are in places where state power has completely collapsed OR inside of open, tolerant, secular Western democracies. They are uniquely unsuited for combatting it, and the paradox of tolerance absolutely comes into play. People would be jailed in Saudi or the UAE for delivering the types of Friday sermons heard weekly in Molenbeek. The most effective ISIS recruiter was an Australian convert who the Aussies struggled to jail until he finally followed through on his calls for jihad and tried to stage an uprising in the Philippines. And, Western authorities lack the nuance and community ties to differentiate between bog-standard conservative Islam (which presents its own issues to a pluralistic society) and the far more acutely dangerous explodey militant version.

The great majority of Muslims, even devout or conservative Muslims in the West will do what most people of all faiths do, which is find ways to accommodate deeply held religious sensibilities with their new surroundings and norms. A much smaller number will be unable to do so, and will in fact be further inflamed because in this ideological worldview it is a humiliation for Muslims to be forced to seek material prosperity among non-believers.

It is very difficult for Western nations to tackle this issue, not in the least because unhelpful rhetoric about civilizational clashes with all Muslims in the West and calls for absurd crackdowns clashes with equally unhelpful allegations of Islamophobia and racism when a more targeted and sensible approach is being sorted out.

In case you hadn't noticed, ADL is Jews, and y'all are supposed to like Jews for now, especially the anti-Palestinian ones like ADL.

Also note that the Trump Administration took down government data to the same effect.

And really, all you had to do was pay fucking attention for the last 10-20 years and you'd know that right-wing nutbags are leading the pack.

Because your team is obvious.

Your use of idiot terms like "Mainstream."  This isn't media.  This is data analysis.

More, from the Libertarian Cato Institute.

https://www.alexnowrasteh.com/p/politically-motivated-violence-is

Eighty-three percent of those murdered since 1975 were committed by the 9/11 terrorists (Figure 1). The Oklahoma City Bombing accounts for about another 5 percent. Those murdered since 2020 account for just 2 percent. Terrorists inspired by Islamist ideology are responsible for 87 percent of those murdered in attacks on US soil since 1975 (Table 1). Right-wingers are the second most common motivating ideology, accounting for 391 murders and 11 percent of the total. The definition here of right-wing terrorists includes those motivated by white supremacy, anti-abortion beliefs, involuntary celibacy (incels), and other right-wing ideologies.

Left-wing terrorists murdered 65 people, or about 2 percent of the total. Left-wing terrorists include those motivated by black nationalism, anti-police sentiment, communism, socialism, animal rights, environmentalism, anti-white ideologies, and other left-wing ideologies. Those murders that are politically motivated by unknown or other ideologies are a vanishingly small percentage, which is unsurprising because terrorists typically want attention for their causes.

But on the bullshit notion that Antifa and left-wing terrorism are our number one national terrorism problem, the American counterterrorism apparatus is being directed toward Trump's political enemies.

Bolt action shotgun?  Correct, not as common.  For Duck & Dove or Pheasant type wings hooting you want multiple "faster action / sweep & shoot" capability with a "sporting" plug (removeable) that restricts the # of rounds (shells) it will hold, making capacity from 5 down to 3.

Most bolt action shotguns are for slug shooting such as bear, deer, etc.
& From my first listen, I thought it was a shotgun.  Granted, phone recording.

Brave as fuck (& dangerous) for the person in or behind that black car to document the shooter for so long.

It's Australia. For a country with a rather large rural landmass, they have some of the the strictest gun control laws. Without looking, I'd imagine those are some of their only options outside of break action single or double guns.

Another story of heroism. This older gentleman apparently disarmed the father shooter (white pants) early on but the shooter had another weapon and killed the man and his wife.

Australia is moving toward steps to reign in an increase in gun ownership in recent years

The Bondi shooting has guaranteed that formulation of new laws to control gun use will be urgently considered at state and federal levels.

Yeah I snuck a ton of members from my international serial killer chat group in. They are harmless. They just want to study serial killers in the home states they came from. Nothing to worry about.

All kidding aside, our country over the last couple of years has allowed the floodgates to be open. Too late to pretend we didn’t let in people capable of carrying out a terrorist attack either. And I’m well aware we have enough homegrown assholes of our own to deal with already. Damn.

Our multitude of bombings and wars over there have led to the displacement of people to the US, Europe and elsewhere. Think of the massive costs of all that in lives and money with the only outcome being more instability and anger.

Netanyahu has been a huge negative for the US and the world.

This kind of shit is so fucking funny.

Immigration law hasn't substantively changed since Reagan was President. Illegal immigration peaked under Bush II. But for the last ~30 years, probably ~50% of Americans have thought most immigrants suddenly showed up within just the immediately preceding 2-4 years.

Nicole, you live in Texas. Does that sound anglo to you? We've got a state literally named New Mexico. Brisket has been talking about how long his family has been here for three fucking generations of these message boards. Why the fuck do you think "the floodgates" have opened just the last couple of years?

Probably important to note that the only real substantive changes Biden made to immigration were to permit asylum claims while remaining in US and not treating first unlawful entry as a crime (also closely tied with family separation policies).

The real difference is the perception that Biden policy was more lenient than Trump's, driving people to the border.

Seriously, it's almost as though the US has a strong demand for labor, and Mexico and Central America have a supply, and that the US Government has refused to enact an immigration system that meets with this fact, and instead have used immigration as a wedge issue to get bigots and stupid people to the polls. It's really not that fucking hard to enact legislation that allows hardworking people to come here legally while keeping bad people out to the extent possible, but nope, CARAVANS and everything bad is because of brown, and HOW DARE I PRESS 1 FOR ENGLISH! Also, undocumented immigrants commit crimes at a far lower rate than natural born citizens and even legal immigrants. It's almost as though they're here to work and feed their families and not to commit crimes. Nah, that can't be, they speak a different language and are therefore evil.

Cold hard truths.

My family has been here since it was Coahuila y Tejas, you fucking newcomers.  And one of my dad's first jobs was driving shuttle vans to get braceros (migrant workers) to farm work sites in S. Texas in the early 50s.

Raging against hispanics in America is as fucking stupid as raging against descendants of englishmen in America.  We were here at the inception.  And we've kept coming, just like the English, and Germans, and Irish, and Chinese (oh, remember - we hated the FUCK outta them too.  And the Irish.  And the dirty dagos.  Sense a pattern here?  Lazy xenophobia much?).

What I love about this reactionary "MUSLIMS ARE EVIL AND WE HAVE TO EXPEL THEM ALL!" is that it is literally identical to....the shit that islamofascists say and are demonized for.  "JEWS ARE EVIL AND WE MUST EXPEL THEM FROM THE HOLY LAND!"  And according to our right-wing thought leaders, the right response to the fact that a small percentage (seriously, it's a very small percentage) of muslims are of the "we cannot tolerate the infidel and must use violence against them" variety is.....to act exactly the same fucking way AGAINST them.

Personally, I say we expel all hateful assholes.  That way, we get to boot both islamofascists AND Christofascists.  If we got to put an islamic terrorist and Tommy Tubberville on the same plane outta here, it would be a massive win for society.

Those were some significant changes. They did other stuff too.

I mean, they built an app where you booked your appointment to come across. Like booking your kid a haircut. Lol.

Or if you were from certain countries you could use the app to get on a flight and come in directly. Upon arrival at the airport you would be granted up to 2 years of "humanitarian parole" and then get shuttled somewhere else.

Same policies? nah

What's funny is when someone is so confidently wrong.

Peak Bush year was 1.64 million.

FY 2022 had 2,378,944 encounters at the southern border

FY 2023 had 2,475,670

FY 2024 had 2,135,105

Southwest Land Border Encounters | U.S. Customs and Border Protection

In the last ten months, it's an average of about 10,000 per month. Just like that.

It turns out, you can just do things.

This shit is beyond maddening. We need their labor and they need our money. Get it done. It doesn't have to involve citizenship for it to benefit the US, Mexico and Central America.

None of us have any solutions.

Except most of us supported the immigration reform proposal advanced by......noted libtard George W. Bush.  An approach that was killed dead largely by the same groups that want to run on "immigration is outta control!" today.

Except most of us supported the immigration reform proposal that was going to be passed by Congress in 2024....until TFG ordered his obedient, spineless minions in Congress to kill it so he could keep running on "ZOMG IMMIGRATION BAD!"

There have been countless proposals, large and small, to fix our immigration system over the past 25 years.  None of them happen.  I know why.  You know why.  We all know why.

So, don't tell us that we have no ideas for solutions.  Now, you're right, we can't actually impose those solutions....because there is an entire political party and movement, which is currently in power in Texas and the US, and which has wielded inordinate power for at least a quarter century, that WILL NOT ALLOW ANY REFORM, NOT EVEN A LITTLE BIT.

The policy changes helped it happen. Just say you're glad it happened or that it's good it happened. That has more credibility.

There have been countless proposals, large and small, to fix our immigration system over the past 25 years.  None of them happen.  I know why.  You know why.  We all know why.

Encounters on the SW border have plummeted without the benefit of any legislation. You can just be committed to enforcement and it's amazing what can happen. Or, you can do the opposite. Open floodgates something something.

No one is claiming a moral or ethical or whatever high ground here. You are just factually wrong, period. If you say some shit that has no basis in reality, like spouting off a bullshit talking point that is taken verbatim from the very people that have made immigration a wedge issue in this country, you should expect to be called out on it, I don't care who you are.

I don't think anyone thinks you are vile or terrible, aside from the serial murder, you just sometimes come off as misinformed on certain topics and don't seem to be the least bit interested in correcting that.

But seriously, this, didn't think it was "browbeating" to have to push back against false narratives. The only browbeating I've seen is a wall post of "how dare you question my words." Looks like we got a new one here to tell us all about the "floodgates" and caravans and how it's all just so terrible that we need masked thugs putting people in their place for having the gall to have been born in a different country. Funny how there's been no comment on the crime rate of undocumented immigrants vs. natural born citizens. Or the economic benefits of immigrant laborers and corresponding lack of effective legislation. It might have been reported on PBS and is therefore FAKE NEWS. Easier to just say "CRIMINAL IMMIGRANTS" until everyone just accepts it and calls the police when they hear Spanish speakers in Walmart. No need to create a legal path to work, just jail them all and ship them to supermax in El Salvador, just as Jesus taught.
