Here’s a brilliant idea. The conference championship game is essentially the first round of the playoffs. You lose, you’re out. No consideration beyond that should be given.

Yes. Put the burden of how to choose that champion/representative on the conference. The SEC can continue their farce of an 8 game schedule or they can add more conference games to better determine their champion. Don’t care, it’s up to them. (That whole 14 teams becomes a major problem so they will fight this until the end)

With 120 teams and zero like schedules between conferences it’s the only way. If the SEC were so difficult it wouldn’t have 1 or two undefeated teams every single year. Every one forgets they were 3-5 in bowls last year not counting playoffs and 5-6 with two Bama wins.

Confernce champions are the only real measurements in college football and need to be the number one priority when selecting the playoff teams

The important thing changes on what school they want to put in. Remember when you had to win your conference so they put in tOSU over TCU?

And I'd have less of a problem with it if they'd simply put it in those terms instead of dressing it up with this post-modern pseudo-technical nonsense like "eyeball test."

Just remember that the main argument against expanding the playoff to 8 teams is that it would "diminish the importance of the regular season. The regular season is a playoff in and of itself." Unless, of course, you are a SEC team. Then you don't have to win all of your games. Just lose the right ones and you'll be given a second chance.

Also remember a couple of years ago everyone told the Big 12 they had to add a conference championship game to stay on even footing with the other conferences.  What good is that conference championship game for the Big 12 if the regular season conference champion can win it by double digits and get passed over for an SEC team that gives up two touchdowns in the last six minutes of their conference championship game to a team playing their back up quarterback?

Joel Klatt called out the CFP's artificial elevation of all things SEC. He laughed about how Florida, LSU and Kentucky being ridiculously high along with Mizzou even being in the CFP. Sadly they can't stipulate a conference championship as criteria because that automatically excludes Notre Dame.

All they have to say is that any playoff team under consideration must be a conference champion unless they are not affiliated with a conference. Independents must be unanimously top 5 ranked. That would encompass ND, BYU, academies, etc.

Whet did he say?

That nothing said in Georgia's favor was in any way convincing. That they lost to a 9-3 LSU by 20, that they blew that lead and lost to Bama, and that there were 2 other P5 champions that only had 1 loss. Seriously, Georgia only had a case in the Land of Make Believe and Pretend.
