Heard on NPR 51% of Texas voters said they would vote for "somebody else" over Trump.

If we had a nationwide rebuke of Trump in 2020, it would be glorious.   But I'd give you 20-1 odds right now if the R candidate is unimpeached/unindicted Trump, Trump wins Texas.  40-1 if it is Kamala on the other side.

He can be impeached and indicted. Unless he has been removed from office by the Senate, he will win Texas. He might even win Texas if he has been removed and is locked up in Florence for treason.

A bunch of them are Trump voters and therefore lying.

Absolutely.  The number of Trump supporters is not decreasing.  The number of people who are willing to admit that they are treasonous garbage (supporters of/apologists for Trump), however, is.

I have no doubt that 99%+ of Republicans in Texas will vote for The Dotard in the general election. I'm sure they were either lying or will vote for somebody else in the primary. However, it means he will have at least a token primary battle.

Basically a bunch of Jeff Flakes. They say they are not real happy with dotard's "style" and will reconsider their vote. But if its between him and some socialist baby killer, well then, their hands are simply tied. Lord trump it is.

The single greatest variable in 2016 will not be on the ballot in 2020.

Just something to consider.

The narrative will be: “The Democratic Party nominee in 2020 is a far more liberal and worse option than Hillary Clinton.”

And it will be at least half true.

Where is your faith in the GOP slander machine?

They'll just insert [candidate] and carry on.  It'll be helpful if the candidate is female and/or an ethnic minority.

The single biggest non-variable will be:  Party loyalty.

For the right at least. There is a disease of ideological purity that infects many people who would ordinarly vote D. If they disagree with a single position of the candidate's, well then its just not worth voting. The polar opposite of the righties who will vote for a dishonest unchristian piece of shit who stands for everything they preach against, because party loyalty. That is why trump will win again, I have no doubt whatsoever.

The absolute HATRED of Hillary could only get Trump a win by 100,000 votes in 3 states.  And those 3 states flipped back with a resounding trumpet of Democrat victories in 2018 - threw out 2 term incumbent Scott Walker in WI and both MI (+2) and PA (+3) saw net gains for the Democrats - as well as Michigan Dems taking back the governorship and the Senate Democrats in these 3 states romping to victory.

No 2020 candidate is going to ignore/take for granted these 3 states again.  I predict the amount of campaigning in these 3 states > campaigning time in Ohio and Florida.  3 states to take a win.  All it takes.  I don't see a single 2016 Hillary state that is going to flip to Trump.  But I can see 3-6 Trump states that could flip.

True, but that hatred has been amped up to encompass ALL Democrats and you've got the dotard campaign  and the propaganda network blatantly lying to them about what Dems stand for, almost 2 years out from the election.  The cult will eat it up and there are plenty somehow on the fence who will probably fall into the trap again.

In the case of Dershowitz, I’m guessing far far worse.

He is. That guy is Exhibit A for what it is to be a pathological liar. He has a capacity to just brazenly lie while both simultaneously 1) knowing literally everything he says is a lie while 2) believing that every word of what he says is true.

Thats precisely why he’s been a very effective attorney over the years.

That was true in November too and it didn't convince anyone.

Blatantly lie about what the Democrats stand for - didn't work

Trump showing up to campaign for people - didn't work

Ginned up fake Muslim-Mexican caravan at the last minute to turn out GOP voters - didn't work

It worked to get The Dotard elected.

Dems* have to be ready for it this time. I fear your attitude will lead to complacency. I also have no doubt there will be outright election fraud on a scale we haven't seen before, not to mention the Russian social media propaganda machine will be out in force.

It was also a midterm.  Look, I hope y'all are right, but my space on the ledge is reserved.

Right.  Like never forgetting the WI, MI, PA lesson, we should never forget the general capacity of the American voter to make a horrible choice.  It's a real tradition.  Except there is no country song about it.

Republican turnout for 2018 was actually pretty good even without their 93%-approved-by-them Special Obese Boy being on the ticket. They're going to show up in 2020 in force. Not only that, but the voter suppression machine will be running at full RPM.

Also, I completely disagree with JS1 saying "No 2020 candidate is going to ignore/take for granted these 3 states again."

There are only two major candidates who actually have the working class as their central focus, Warren and Sanders. Those are the only two who, right now, have a genuine appeal to the working class that will be the swing deciders in those states. And no, it's NOT because of identity politics. Obama went to those factory towns and cleaned up.

Been that way for a while. The same conservatives who bring up free speech never read the rest of the 1st Amendment.

Yes, the right wing dumb re the First Amendment is something.  When I first saw you'd quoted me, I thought you were referencing this post:

The dumb is palpable.

It won't work nearly as well as it did with Hillary Clinton. That is a huge problem for the Trump campaign.

It's why he's still referencing her almost daily even though she holds no office.

That dumb SOB will not pass up a chance to be on TV. It does not matter that such an appearance will torpedo what small chance he has at winning because his narcissistic personality will not allow him to miss out on being in front of millions of people/Trumpkins.

Maybe. Maybe not. There's a 100% chance nobody knows what he will do. There's also a 100% chance he will say one thing (I won't appear in a debate on a "fake news" channel), do the opposite (appear on a "fake news" channel), say he didn't appear on a "fake news" channel (because why not), then say he did what he said he'd do all along (I never said I wouldn't appear on a "fake news" channel. FAKE NEWS!).

Is this sarcasm? It all has worked and will continue to work, in particular the first and last point. A 40 year effort to portray democrats and literally evil is what led to trump. Yeah, he had "some flaws" but at least he's not a socialist baby killer who supports open borders and wants to confiscate all guns and have made "Merry Christmas" illegal and who will let tranny's attack your daughters in the bathroom. And haven't you heard the latest? AOC wants to make cows illegal and make everyone pay 90% in taxes on every dollar. Trump may be a liar and a dangerous sociopath who represents nothing that even closely resembles conservative values . . . but at least he's not a democrat!

The messaging from the Republicans for 2020 is already crystal clear.  They will beat this trope non stop for the next 20 months until all republicans and both sider bitches believe it.

Democrats need to point out this was the same bullshit playbook they ran with Obama and history proved it was a total lie.  Don’t let these guys fool you again.

lol the republicans are going to turn half the nation into self-identifying socialists by completely removing any taboo or stigma around the word.

Keep going, Mike. Keep going.

seriously. they are demystifying the thought of socialism altogether. as ocasio-cortez gains more notoriety, and people realize that her ideas won't turn us into soviet russia or cultural revolution china, then people will start to realize we already include some socialist policies in our government.

i know this shit is cyclical, but this feels to me like a reformation of the republican party is in order. the problem is that there is no longer any true conservatives that self-label as republican. the republicans are no longer really FOR anything as they are AGAINST everything and everyone.
