i'm surprised Hans von Spakovsky is an actual person and not a name trump just made up.  but i'm totally not surprised he looks like this:

In case anyone is confused, that’s the dude that helped Belloq hunt down the Ark of the Covenant.

I have much more respect for the (very few)  ‘Pubs that admit Trump is a piece of shit/dirtbag, but at a macro level like that he is pushing the policies they prefer (even if I think they are dangerous/inane).  The folks that try to hold onto the lie that he is a good person are the most repugnant.

I’d love for McConnell or Graham to just come out and say “Of course our president is a piece of shit.  But I got the judiciary changes I needed so he’s a useful piece of shit.”

I could have sworn Hans von Spakovsky was a mid-80s WWF bad guy.  He didn't win a tag team title with Nikolai Volkoff?

I could have sworn Bruce Willis killed him in one of his Die Hard movies.

So I had a conversation w/ an old hs friend who is a full on Trumpster who has gone off the religious right deep end.  His answer?  I shit you not:  "That was before he'd been saved, if God forgives him I can.'  I followed this statement w/ a smartass "I've been away from the church for a few decades and didn't realize paying off porn stars now counted as penitence."

His response "We should change the subject and agree to disagree".  Fuck hypocritical Christians...which is damn near every one of them.

Not that I expect you would get a cogent answer, but what on earth makes your friend or anyone believe that Trump has been "saved"? What are the so-called signs?  Does he go to Church?  Doe he spread the good news?  Does he tithe?  Is he meek and mild?  DOES HE EVEN CLAIM HE HAS BEEN SAVED?  Sweatergawd, some of y'all are better people than I could ever be.  I dont' know that I could associate with anyone who is either that thick, simple, hypocritical or evil.  Because anyone who still supports the orange shitstain has to be some combination of those things.

You should have gone on.  Fuck your idiot friend.

‘So a man who lives his life properly in Africa, but doesn’t ask Christ for forgiveness before death, is worse off than some pederast who imagines some words prior to getting a few million volts up his ass?’

his reply ‘that’s why it’s important to spread the word of Christ’.  Then you laugh and treat him like the idiot he is.

I think he actually is that damaged and narcissistic.   I could see Russia being cynical enough to understand how truly despicable, superficial, insecure and self-centered he is to take advantage of it without even needing to blackmail him, too.

If you just accept he’s nothing more than a collection of narcissistic impulses he’s pretty predictable and probably pretty easy for professionals to manipulate.  Hell, the GOP power brokers rode it out with him because they thought they could manipulate him but they either (a) didn’t realize he had the power over them with his voters and not the other way around, or (b) insisted on believing he was more than he was because they didn’t want to consider the implications of him being exactly what he is and yet still so popular with their base.

This.  Although I think the GOP power brokers are right that he can be easily manipulated.  What they didn't take account for is that he's just as easily manipulated by others.  He's being manipulated by Putin, Miller, and his bank account.

It’s possible but you have to consider the following:

The number of negative comments Trump has made about Putin still stands at zero.

Trumps says in private that he trusts Putin over the most patriotic Americans.  He also says this in public.

Trump leaks classified intelligence to Russians in the Oval Office.

Trump conceals his private communications with Putin.

Trump obstructs justice for the Russians.

Trump tried to lift sanctions on Russia the second he got into office.

Trump did lift sanctions on Oleg Derpaska with help from the Senate.

I could go on but him being “damaged and narcissistic” is PRECISELY why he’s a Kremlin asset.

So where is the line drawn? If Trump pulled out a gun and shot Chuck Schumer I’m pretty sure he’d be arrested and charged with murder.

nope. DOJ policy says you cant indict a sitting president. so he could murder every single Democrat and get away with it so long as the Republicans didnt vote to impeach him. And why would they? he could literally kill all of them as well and still not face any charges. its a stupid policy that has no basis in the Constitution or in our philosophy of government.

Are all attorneys bound by DOJ policy?  Somebody earlier mentioned that the Manhattan DA could indict . . .

If the president committed murder, depending on where it happened, there are a number of jurisdictions that could arrest him and have him indicted for murder, no matter what DOJ policy says.

Murder is a common law crime traditionally left to the states and District of Columbia. The others are white collar crimes usually (not always) handled by the feds.

I don’t agree with the concept that a sitting president can’t be indicted. I can understand that it creates some challenges if a president was jailed or imprisoned but America’s most fundamental concept is that no one is above the law. Allowing a president to be unindictable by the govt creates someone above the law.

There are three ultimate truisms when it comes to trump:

1) if he says something, its a lie. That includes if you ask him what he had for breakfast and he said bacon and eggs. That means he either didn’t have breakfast at all of if he did, it definitely wasn’t bacon and eggs.

2) if he accuses you or someone else of doing something nefarious, that means its something he has done, probably recently. So if he accuses you or someone of being an enemy of the people and creating fake news, it means you are a friend of people and real news, and he is in fact the enemy of the people and fake news: and

3) anyone who goes on the air to publicly defend trump, whether it be Hannity, Dershowitz or Santa Claus, that person is by definition a complete scumbag who has probably either committed multiple crimes, cheated on his wife to fuck some bimbo, or done far far worse. In the case of Dershowitz, I’m guessing far far worse. In any event, they can safely be ignored and when the revolution comes, should be decided by a tribunal whether they get mercy or not, definitely not a jury.

To sum up and channeling my inner Kevin Bacon Prosecutor: “These are the rules of trump. And they are undisputed.”

First off, the framers of the Constitution intended prosecuting the President to be Congress' job, although there was some debate. For example, Alexander Hamilton believed that impeachment was the sole means to prosecute a sitting president, but James Wilson, a Pennsylvania delegate to the Constitutional Convention, believed the president lacked immunity since it wasn't explicitly laid out in the Constitution. (sauce) That said, most modern constitutional scholars believe that a sitting president cannot be prosecuted by the DOJ (other sauce).

All that said, the idea of the DOJ prosecuting the President is kind of a silly notion: You're talking about a section of the Executive Branch prosecuting their boss, basically, and in Myers vs. US, the Supreme Court ruled that the President can fire any civil employee at will, from the Attorney General on down.

So even if the Constitution somehow allowed for it, which is debatable but unlikely, it's impractical, since Trump can simply fire anyone in the DOJ that tries to prosecute him.

The states, on the other hand, seem to be free to prosecute to their hearts' content.
