Something else will just take it’s place.   It’s far too useful for a lot of people.  Shit, there’s wannabe facebooks popping up all the time, but you never hear about them because they never hit critical mass.

Fox News though, that would do some damage to them.  OAN and The Blaze aren’t going to pick up that slack.

This right fucking here. Fox News rotting brains is the top of the iceberg

This is going on a tangent, but are the Senate Republicans also sticking with Trump because they are playing the long game? I mean their feet are to the fire and it’s uncomfortable, but for many their position is still solid and with the judicial appointments and the Election Commission on life support, maybe they figure they can ride it out, regroup and with new gerrymandering, voter purges and outright cheating storm back to their usual business as usual? I am convinced that cheating will occur because how can it not?

only a few are openly fighting the impeachment it seems.  cornyn among them. the rest seem to just be acting like they haven't noticed anything was going on so they don't have to commit.  they are not leaders, but followers, and are waiting to see if a dam breaks.  if so, they'll move.  if not, they've always been in trump's corner.

Cornyn can go fuck himself with a baseball bat wrapped in barb wire.

Donald Trump is not Hitler. It's absolutely disgraceful to the memories of 6 million dead Jews to put them in the same sentence. Some of you need to get a grip.

Yes, yes. We must respect the murdered Jews of Nazi Germany. We should use the president's press representative as a model. I give you Sean Spicer

https://www.vox.com/world/2017/4/11/15262100/sean-spicer-assad-hitler-holocaust-gas

Quote

In Tuesday’s briefing, press secretary Sean Spicer said something astounding — that Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad compared unfavorably, at least in one respect, to Adolf Hitler.

"Hitler didn't even sink to the level of using chemical weapons,” Spicer said.

You’re probably spotting at least one obvious problem here: The Nazis used poison gas as one of the principal means of exterminating the Jewish people. At one point, 6,000 Jews were gassed to death every day in Auschwitz alone, according to the US Holocaust Museum.

[Spicer Quote:]

I think when you come to sarin gas, there was no … he was not using the gas on his own people in the same way that Assad is doing. There was not … he brought them into the Holocaust centers, I understand that.

[Deleted this part to let Hitler talk lay. Thought the above was an amusing recollection, though.]

The beautiful thing is that Trump probably has several people around him, who are asking him to cool it on the Biden shit as we speak, and that just pisses Trump off even more, because he believes he’s the smartest sonofabitch in the room, and so tomorrow will be even more glorious.

He has to have an enemy, it’s the only way he can function because he’s so unfit for the office of President.

So the quid pro quo-- if it wasn't already clear-- is spelled out in text messages by diplomats charged with executing the deal? That's what was just released, right?

July 25 8:36 am Volker texts: “Heard from White House-assuming President Z. convinces Trump he will investigate / ‘get to the bottom of what happened’ in 2016, we will nail down date for visit to Washington.”

So how fucked up is it that we we sit here and think there has to be more or else he'll skate? Fucking upside down world.

Here's the problem with the Senate. Senators don't get gerrymandered "districts" -- they get gerrymandered states. Two for each. Let me tell you that Travis County, alone, has a greater population than a few of our states, much less Harris, Dallas, Bexar, or even Tarrant.

I honestly don't think the "Founding Fathers" could foresee the problem of urbanization vis-a-vis representation when they conceived of two senators per state way back when 80% of the population lived on farms/plantations before the Industrial Revolution

The difference between the largest and smallest states in 1790 was vastly different than what we see today when comparing California/Texas to Alaska/Wyoming.

It's a goddamn farce that flies in the face of the notion of "one man, one vote" and the Senate, because of this gross disparity in representation, is probably one of the least representative bodies on the fucking planet.

Leave it to me, and I'd start realigning our illogical state boundaries.

I can't even imagine the level of my glee should Nancy become President.  The meltdown would be extraordinary.

It would be civil war!  All of which would take place in nursing homes. Some people may even make it as far as the parking lot.

Probably whey they started out having the state legislatures elect the Senators.  It actually helped temper some of what you described moreso than the eventual urbanization/population boom of some states.  Plus, who the fuck let Oklahoma have any Senators, period?

While I agree. Completely. There is another way. Laissez faire economics offers nothing to a dying or dead small town. Socialism actually does offer them something. Communism even more so.

The red states are already massive taker states. The people of those states get nothing to show for it. What has a poor Kentuckian gotten from Moscow Mitch?  Nothing at all.  And Kentucky is getting like 2 dollars back from the govt for every one they put in.  Bernie would give them jobs if he could.  He can't though.  AOC, on the other hand, would damage her own district to distribute jobs their way.  So gonna have to wait.

Really, no other country distributes tax revenue based on land except us. The rail system is crumbling in NY State yet NY, as a net payer state, lost 4 times the MTA budget to the federal govt. Some of that went to Kentucky who got nothing at all for it.

To be fair, state legislatures would do an even worse job than voters in 2019.

I think the most frustrating part of all of this is that any human being with a functioning brain, literally, can see that the president is lying.  Over and over.  All day long.  There's a lot of human beings with functioning brains, as hard as that may be to believe these days.  The only logical explanation is that there are a fuck ton of LIARS.  Congress people, regular people, all of them.  LIARS.  They refuse to acknowledge reality.  We are trying to have a society.  When people refuse to acknowledge reality the fabric of society breaks down.  There's usually only one answer when that happens.

Senate Republicans will not abandon ship until they absolutely have to and makes sense they are walking the party line for now.
Trump is a traitor though so its only a matter of time imo.

The more that comes out the more I’m starting to think that when this goes to the senate, it might be close. Closer than I ever thought possible.

Trump all out asking China to go after his political enemies or he will hurt the world economy.

lol humans

You know. China would have done all he wanted if he didn't first start an open trade war with them, and if he wasn't doing this on public channels. China would have been all about taking a little bit of stolen American largesse as quid pro quo for tanking Biden's campaign if he would have just asked the right way. They want Trump to fuck up America. They just don't want China to be fucked up too.

the divide means more than anything else. logic has nothing to do with it. while we like to think we are logical beings, we clearly aren't. we make choices every day that fly in the face of things we claim to believe in. everyone does.

the way to unfuck bad behavior is through changing the process.

outside of getting the current devil out of office - all that anyone should be talking about is reforming the government. thats it. until that happens this is the mess you get. third party, parliamentary, whatever. it doesn't matter. no system is perfect and this one is out of steam and done for. just needs a gentle nudge in the right direction and the garbage will fall out the bottom again like it supposed to.
