And I really enjoyed the “no, your boarding pass doesn’t say medical pre-board, get your ass back in line and wait for me to call boarding group C” show from the WN agents.

You saw someone get denied pre-boarding on SWA?  Can't say I've ever seen that.

Families with small kids were told they could board between A and B. Fatass lazy adults who knew how to game the system boarded ahead of A with the truly disabled.

Meanwhile on an AA flight the next week I turned down an upgrade to first to sit with my wife. (our reservations weren't linked, as we were meeting at an airport midway into a trip, and I'm the one with status.)

Why not let your wife enjoy the upgrade and you take her seat? No reason for both of you to be stuck in the back.

That's not how it works, it goes to the next person on the upgrade list. In this case, an active military member.

Plus we had the first row behind first with all the legroom so no big deal.

You don't reject the upgrade and try to get her upgraded, you just swap boarding passes as you walk down the jetway!

(But I've also turned down upgrades to sit together with family many times.)

It absolutely works that way. I've done it a million times with my wife. Take the upgrade, she sits in first and you sit in her assigned seat. No one at American has ever batted an eye and I've been exp for a decade.

FA might ask about, as their iphone thingy shows passengers by name, and those with status are highlighted.

Like I said upthread, my wife and I have switched seats a ton of times when I get upgraded and she doesn't. A simple, "my husband gave me the upgrade and he's in my seat" and they don't bat an eye.

Flew AA from Denver to DFW on Wednesday and the crew made it clear from the opening announcement that you must wear earbuds or earphones for any type of media player. Of course this one dipshit in front of me ignored that and started watching a movie on his phone with full volume. FA quickly came over and made him turn it off. I think it's an awesome policy and AA earned a few points in my book.

But yesterday I flew Nashville to DFW and there was no such announcement/enforcement. So maybe it's up to the crew to decide if they want to deal with it.

Is that a thing nowadays?

Was on a jet blue flight out of Ft. Lauderdale a few weeks ago that kept getting delayed by weather. We eventually had to get off at one point. Finally we are about to leave and some dumb ass got booted from the plane for playing music. He was drunk and hanging in the bar during the delays but still nobody wants to hear your shit.

2 ways that works:

there is no meal service up front on that flight, otherwise the pax manifest is printed out for pre-ordered meals and you be a he and she be a she,

or

you're gay and married

Airlines should just make it a policy that if you board in a wheelchair, then you have to disembark in a wheelchair for liability purposes.  Of course, in order to get the wheelchairs to the ramp, they have to let all of the non-wheelchair people disembark first.

Orca fat woman screaming at flight attendant who is attempting to make her stay on plane to disembark wheelchair should be good social media fodder.

The GF and I were in first on 777 to NRT.  We're each in our pod, watching movies, drinking, eating, loving life.   A gay couple was also in 1st.  Right off the bat, they informed the FA that they would be dining together for both meals.  One sat on the seat, the other on the footrest dealie with the table between them.   We were laughing our asses off, because we sure as shit didn't even think of doing that.   Why ruin a good time?   We eat together most nights...today we each watch whatever we want while eating!

Definitely not the case on my 2 flights yesterday. PLS-MIA, MIA-IAH. Both had a bunch of idiots playing their devices without earbuds. What is wrong with people?

America, Where my needs and comfort are more important than yours.

I’m thinking of blasting Dead Kennedys the next time some twit starts watching something full blast within one row of me.  I’ve got a decently loud small bluetooth speaker that could add to the obnoxiousness.

yep, so many people get healed on the flight that the number of wheelchairs needs miraculously goes down upon arriving.

flight back from Maui and my wife got the upgrade to first and said peace out, you can sit with the kids.  i don't blame her one bit.

For Parker and American, this was the heist of a lifetime. He spent all his time in D.C. lobbying and Nelson played a key role. Without Nelson’s cover with the narrative about workers, and bringing along Democratic leadership, it would never have worked. Together, they robbed the American people of $54 billion in direct cash, $25 billion in subsidized loans, plus money for airline contractors and tax subsidies as well.

AAL has negative equity and has been losing money on the bottom line for years.  You'd be buying an accumulating debt burden.

Well plenty of time now. But I’m too pissed to type much of anything. Just got the text that our flight was cancelled again. Good news? Is we are rebooked tomorrow on Iberia so maybe they can actually make the flight happen. surly we can’t get cancelled 4 days in a row.

+ rep for rule following.

Any idea why they keep canceling? Mechanical issues that keep not being fixed and won't put a new plane there?

3 straight days is ridiculous and I'm not sure there is any compensation that would make me fly them again.

I've boarded and deplaned an aircraft for the same flight 4 times in the same day( weather at destination airport.)  It was insanely frustrating.  I cannot imagine 4 fucking days trying to get the same flight in.

Is it AA metal or a code share cancelations? Iberia is part of OWA so they be a le to get you back. What sucks is Barcelona is strictly an AA hub and flights can be limited.  You have status? call the desk and they should help.

Day 1 was mechanical for sure. Our flight was delayed an hour to begin with, then they called their club members and first class which included us. We then stood on the jetway for 30 minutes until they finally let us go to our seats. They already knew something was wrong. Sometime in the 1st hour the pilot said they were having an instrument problem but they were going to try “turning the plane off and on again”. Not kidding. I then took an hour nap and when I woke up the pilot said they were flying a new part in from London and they would take us to a hotel and fly out the next day at 8am. Hahaha.

sometime during the night we got about 5 texts informing us of various delays that kept pushing departure up until it finally settled at about 6 pm. With nothing else to do we went ahead and headed to the airport at noon. They cancelled our flight at 5 while everyone was at the gate. No explanation and no gate agent. Nobody at ticket counter. Text saying flight rescheduled for 3 pm today. So we booked a hotel and spent the night only to get the text at 11 this morning that flight was cancelled again. At least we hadn’t left the hotel yet. New text says we are rebooked tomorrow at 1:30 in the afternoon. On Iberia. Thank god.

im leaving a lot of shit out.

It’s AA.

Status isn’t helping. We have the best friend of one of their VP’s with us and she is stuck too. We also all tried other airlines but this being a busy travel weekend everything else was booked up too.
One of my phone calls this morning was pretty funny. The agent I spoke with said oh my god I just dealt with another passenger on your flight. She said “what the fuck I can’t fucking believe this is happening”. I laughed and so did she.

I loathe American and will do everything possible not to fly them.
I al Delta pretty much exclusively now and by and large they have been great (Diamond) on them.
United when I was global services was awesome as well but otherwise not as consistent as Delta for me.
Also the Delta club in Austin is miles ahead of the United club.

I have to travel to a lot of random places for work which makes it impossible for me to accumulate status on one airline. I fly AA, SWA, United, and Delta.

Over the last two years, delta has been the winner. Toss up between the rest. Avoiding AA out of Charlotte has probably helped my opinion of them.

This is the problem. Half of the day 2 days in a row we were actually at the airport. The 3rd day we didn’t actually go to the airport, but didn’t know our flight was cancelled until just before lunch. It’s not like we could have planned anything major. We had already been in Barcelona for 4 days prior to this clusterfuck so we were done with what we wanted to do anyway.

Really hope you booked on a credit card with travel insurance.

Booked with miles. Obviously a full refund plus expenses is coming but they better do a lot more than that. Will keep this thread updated.

We finally got home an hour ago. 3 am after traveling Barcelona-Madrid-DFW-Corpus today. 23 hours today. Iberia Airlines got us back. BUT THEY LOST ONE OF THE TWO CHECKED BAGS. Technically it’s not lost as I can see my AirTag sitting at Barcelona airport terminal 1. Despite arriving 3.5 hours prior to our flight that bag somehow never even started our journey today.

I think I mentioned I’m leaving a lot of stuff out. One other minor detail that kept us from doing anything in Barcelona was that my wife actually received 29 text messages over the 3 days of flight delays/cancellations/rebookings. So even if we weren’t at the airport waiting, or trying to get to/from a hotel, we never even had a large enough window to plan a nice dinner or something. I got 11 text notifications in the first 24 hours. After that they just stopped. Not sure what we would have done if she didn’t keep receiving hers because it was the only source of communication we have had with anyone at AA, other than calling their help line ourselves.

Haha!  American/Iberia lost our bags last summer going to Madrid.  It took four days to get them back and included squatting at the airport for five hours waiting for them to locate the physical bags after giving us text notifications that they had made it to MAD.

Your story is so fucked. I haven’t flown AA in years but it was my only option this time around and the flight was cancelled about 8 hours before we were scheduled to leave from Austin. I figured something was up when I checked in online exactly 24 hours before and immediately they were already offering passengers the chance to get a travel credit if we gave up our seat. All of the connecting flights would have been missed if we were involuntarily bumped to a later flight. I don’t think anyone took the credit so American just decided to cancel the flight and give refunds instead of paying the 4x compensation DOT is making them give passengers who were involuntarily bumped and have to wait more than 2 hours. There was no reason given for the cancellation other than “cancelled.” What a crock of shit.

Because your on miles, is AA not comping you a hotel?

I had typed out a couple of paragraphs regarding this and hit submit and the post disappeared. Pretty much how my last 5 days have been. The very condensed version is after the Day1 cancellation AA provided a hotel but after waiting for everyone on the flight to collect luggage, waiting for the shuttle that went to the hotel on the opposite side of town from the airport, then waiting to check in it was 3-4 hours of time. So Day 2 and 3 cancellations we just booked our own hotel and paid for it. I wasn’t going to put my wife, or me, through that again.

I feel you.  Happened to us trying to get from Denver to Montreal 3 years ago.  Took us 3 days of sitting in the airport to finally get there.  Absolute shit show.

I just returned from a trip on AA.  Sunday was a late-afternoon flight from SNA, we were going to get a hotel in DFW, and then on to RDU early Monday AM.

Because DFW is a weather-hellhole, our outbound was delayed several times, then cancelled outright.  AA customer service was very helpful. I told them I needed to get to RDU and didn't want to get ratfucked by DFW again.  They moved me to a SAN flight the next morning, through PHL.   No extra charge, and a nice exit row seat with free booze.

I have no complaints.
