Getting old sucks

Just wanted to say fuck my life the last few months.  I’m 46 and don’t even have a primary car doc because I’ve never needed one.  2 months ago I caught COVID on the first day of my first vacation in 1.5 yrs.  I had to go to the ER last weekend because I went to doc in the box for the crud and my BP was so high it’s a miracle I’m alive.  Appointment with a cardiologist on Tuesday to make sure that is addressed (it’s been under control since the ER visit).  Today my parents asked me to come over and help them move a couple of things outside.  Sounded like no big deal.  What they needed moved was a massive pot that probably weighs a couple of hundred pounds.  Their dog decided to chase a squirrel, cut my dad off, causing him to lose balance and drop his side of the pot, causing me to drop my side of the pot directly onto my two outside toes, which I’m guessing are probably broken.  Yay life!

Seems like the prudent move, but I really don’t want to do it until after the cardiologist visit because I don’t want to send my bp back into the stratosphere.

Before they put you on a bunch of BP medication, get yourself a good BP monitor and write down your BP twice a day. Just to confirm, but I’m no doctor.

I am presently at my cardiologist’s office. I have SVT so I have check ups twice a year. It does not bother me at all as I know how to slow my heart rate down when it flares up. I am 55. I still lead a very active life of playing sports and hiking. Looking at everyone else here they all look to be old enough to be my parents.

I certainly do not what to become having first name basis with the doctors like the others olds here.

My blood pressure will be up when they get around to checking it because they are already 30 Minutes behind schedule and I have a basketball game at noon. Getting irritated.

Keep your HR and BP low for that test.

A.A.A.D.D.- KNOW THE SYMPTOMS!
Thank goodness there's a name for this disorder.

Age-Activated Attention-Deficit Disorder.

This is how it manifests:

I decide to water my garden.
As I turn on the hose in the driveway,
I look over at my car and decide it needs washing.

As I start toward the garage,
I notice mail on the porch table that
I brought up from the mail box earlier.

I decide to go through the mail before I wash the car.

I lay my car keys on the table,
Put the junk mail in the garbage can under the table,
And notice that the can is full.

So, I decide to put the bills back
On the table and take out the garbage first...

But then I think,
Since I'm going to be near the mailbox
When I take out the garbage anyway,
I may as well pay the bills first.

I take my check book off the table,
And see that there is only one check left.
My extra checks are in my desk in the study,
So I go inside the house to my desk where
I find the can of Pepsi I'd been drinking .

I'm going to look for my checks,
But first I need to push the Pepsi aside
So that I don't accidentally knock it over.

The Pepsi is getting warm,
And I decide to put it in the refrigerator to keep it cold.

As I head toward the kitchen with the Pepsi,
A vase of flowers on the counter
Catches my eye--they need water.

I put the Pepsi on the counter and
Discover my reading glasses that
I've been searching for all morning.
I decide I better put them back on my desk,
But first I'm going to water the flowers.

I set the glasses back down on the counter ,
Fill a container with water and suddenly spot the TV remote.
Someone left it on the kitchen table.

I realize that tonight when we go to watch TV,
I'll be looking for the remote,
But I won't remember that it's on the kitchen table,
So I decide to put it back in the den where it belongs,
But first I'll water the flowers.

I pour some water in the flowers,
But quite a bit of it spills on the floor.

So, I set the remote back on the table,
Get some towels and wipe up the spill.

Then, I head down the hall trying to
Remember what I was planning to do.

At the end of the day:
The car isn't washed,
The bills aren't paid,
There is a warm can of
Pepsi sitting on the counter,
The flowers don't have enough water,
There is still only 1 check in my check book,
I can't find the remote,
I can't find my glasses,
And I don't remember what I did with the car keys.
Then, when I try to figure out why nothing got done today,
I'm really baffled because I know I was busy all day,
And I'm really tired.

I realize this is a serious problem,
And I'll try to get some help for it, but first I'll check my e-mail....

Do me a favor
Forward this message to everyone you know,
Because I don't remember who I've sent it to.

Don't laugh -- if this isn't you yet, your day is coming!

You left out the part where you checked in on Surly and lost the rest of the day.

Ok, my BP was 124/72.  EKG came back great.  I will live another day.

Don't feel bad AB, I went in for an endoscopy because I had trouble swallowing. They took 17 biopsies. That seems like a lot.

Got you beat, when I had my endoscopy and colonoscopy last month they took 32 biopsies total, all benign thank God.

I'll be 45 next month, and while I know that isn't technically old, it is the oldest I have been haha.  Anyways, I have this really dark bruise on my arm I have no idea about.  I asked my wife if she punched me while I was sleeping, but she denied it.  Is it possible I bumped into something that at 25 or even 35 I would have just shrugged off and now is a problem as I become a feeble geriatric like the rest of y'all?

Just wait until you start waking up in the morning and either your arm, shoulder, leg, neck, etc. hurts and your standard response will be, "I must have slept wrong/funny last night".

Earhole shingles saga continues. Had an MRI last week and confirmed that I don't have a brain tumor or anything real crazy. Rash is gone and the pain has improved but now I have vertigo that is off the charts. Hearing loss is still there and my ENT is not confident that it is going to return to a normal level. I start physical therapy for the vertigo next week and I will likely be shopping for a hearing aid in February. Fuck shingles directly in the goat ass.

This, and yes I'm at that point of decrepidness.

Just getting back from a major industry show where we had a large number of employees gathered as well. During dinner they kept talking about this guy that works for us that looks just like Hawkeye. As he was sitting next to me I was just not getting it. He looked nothing like Alan Alda of M*A*S*H fame. Finally I spoke up. They were talking about Jeremy Renner, the Marvel Comic’s Hawkeye.

I am not as young as I once was!  It was great. It was really nice to see in person and reconnect with folks that I have not seen in a while due to Covid.  Rarely had to leave the Wynn outside of attending the conference. We had a lounge reserved every night for free booze and appetizers.

And guys older than you are saying “wasn’t Hawkeye a character in a tv show about Native Americans” (the old guys wouldn’t actually say Native Americans)?

And guys older than that (@Armybrat) would say “wasn’t he a white guy who adopted Native American (again, they wouldn’t actually say Native American) culture, serving as a bridge between the cultures and a metaphor for colonization, in a book by James Fenimore Cooper?”

Hawkeye, a different character for every generation.

Turned 59 this month. About eight months ago, I was starting to go into oxygen debt way too soon on my runs. I was pretty sure I had a blockage, so I went to my doc, and sure enough,  I was 78% blocked in the left anterior descending artery. Basically the worst one. The Widow Maker. Got two stents, feel much better and running interval workouts again.

Weight room is mostly pain these days. I'm still trying to do shit I did in my 20's, but my rotator cuffs let me know that shit ain't happening without a price.  200 lbs on the bench feels like needles are being driven into my arms. Insurance says no MRI without physical therapy first. I said "fuck it" and press on. Added Old Fashioned's to my workout.

Testosterone is wonderful.  Still banging young ones.
