The real question, to me, is why either party would be doing this

If they get some football success, the local yokels won’t give a shit about what anybody thinks of them hiring Briles.  Look at the location and some of the bigwigs in that town.  Those folks are already trying to rehabilitate his image and make him out to be somebody caught up in the evils of Bigtime Football.  Some are apparently of the camp “we know people commit sins, but we are good Christians, so we forgive him and believe in second chances, especially if it gets us wins!”  This is why, at the collegiate level, a place like Liberty U hired Hugh Freeze.

As for Briles, speaking of Liberty U, if he keeps his nose clean a few years, I wasn’t kidding when I said one of those schools in the GAC would hire him.

Obviously, not about money for Briles right now.  You could argue that Briles loves what he’s doing, but the flip side is that if he gave a shit, he would have cracked down on the shitshow at Baylor.  This is, as you or somebody else said, his rehabilitation tour.  He will bounce up into one of those conferences like the GAC, he will win the conference several times, and he can retire with the notion in his mind that he did good.

I do think he will be limited to the Bible schools, or the small schools (University of Central Southeastern Arkansas-Podunkville) or one of the JUCOs.  I don’t see many “serious” colleges giving him a chance.

I’m guessing you’ve never been there.
Most folks routinely shop at Dollar General since the Alco closed. That’s for everything.
The Dairy Mart still had a smoking section last time we went. There was nothing separating the smoking section from the non smoking section.
The City Meat Market has choice cuts and is rarely busy.
The pizza place on the square ain’t half bad though.
Also, the first house on 37 just north of 30 is massive. Think Roadhouse bad guy massive and then double it.
MTV for its size is remarkably nice. I'm here now. The local brookshires is nice, stevo-O's pizza is great (his wife is hot as well), and the brunch place on the square has downtown NYC quality items on the menu. Also, the milf that owns the marina on the lake serves up some great food as well.

(1) rulz
(2) you either spelt "what" wrong, or you meant "who"
Not following #2. Talk to me like I'm 7 years old.

Also, on rules, haven't been to either place in a couple of weeks and both times with the no pics wife. Frowned upon, she has stupid rules for me.

References to people use "who" (or whom, depending), not "that". The "what" part was a bad joke on bumpkin-talk. As in, "It was my cuz what gimme them crabs."

During hunting season we came in to Steve O’s on a Sunday afternoon to watch the Cowboys game. No antenna and didn’t want to stream. We sat in the back and got hammered. They let us hang back there until the game was over and after they closed. Good people. Unfortunately I don’t think they are open on Sundays anymore.

Fair enough. I guess that’s part of my point though. That should’ve been the end of his coaching career, right there. The fact that this school hired him with all the information out there shows they don’t give a flying fuck about your angry emails, and tweets. So then you’re just taking 10 minutes out of your day to literally send a message into the ether that nobody at that school cares about.

Probably the worst showing on this site post-Rocko.

kind of impressed, actually.

No they wont. He is done with college.

Hugh Freeze says “hi”. Dude used escorts for years, and he caused Ole Miss to get 35 victories tossed.

There will be some little school that picks Briles up.  He will donate his salary to the school, and they will name something after him, and he can pretend he rehabilitated his tainted name.

Don't neg the shit out of me.   But, coming from a Baylor grad, this is completely fucked.  Anyone who sets the situation up and texts "What was she doing around those dudes, those are some bad dudes" has no business shaping the lives of others.  Completely fucked someone would hire him.

Can't believe they aren't rioting on the high school steps tomorrow morning.  Are they not?

Used escorts and 50 rapes are the same thing, is that what you are saying?

Not at all.

One of these situations leads to a bunch of people being fired from their 6- and 7-figure jobs.

The other situation leads to a team having 33 wins expunged from their record and being banned from post-season play for two years.

I hope that motherfucker loses every game and his rival coaches watch his sorry ass like hawks.  If he starts the Stephenville steroid culture at 3A Mount Vernon, I hope he is exposed, charged and jailed.  Art Briles is a piece of shit that has no business teaching school in Texas.  Is he going to teach a health class as part of his duties?

Nah, probably Sunday school classes...

School is out. But I may meander through town on my way back home to see if anything is up. 1% chance is all i give it.

I'm sure you're right on the 1% thing.  But I do think if any kind of protest or outcry is to get legs, it will be today.

Already off to a pretty good start this morning.  The Musers on the Ticket just teased their upcoming show and pretty much started with that upcoming segment.  If their previous segments on the Baylor/Briles shit are any indication, I expect them to lay into this pretty hard.

It’s small town East Texas. Winning that foosball is more important than morals, ethics, or the safety of their girls. If you polled that town I’d bet 95%+ would say the scandal was just “political correctness run amok.” If you polled them separately I’d bet they’d also respond that girls have a duty to dress and act appropriately to avoid being raped. He’ll show up to the local baptist church on his first day and do his “I love Jesus” act and the town will rejoice. When he wins his first championship they’ll make him fucking mayor. Backwards ass small town southern ‘murica.

Sad but true.

CAB has never come clean, is openly defiant and is in a mess he helped to create that is part of ongoing litigation. Mt Vernon made a very poor choice because they have little control over the situation and do not have all of the facts.

They have no idea what they’ve just done.

The Mount Vernon Optic-Herald newspaper website has deleted its story about Briles' hire.  It's still listed on the homepage when you view cached version, but the story no longer exists.

But to be clear, they have plenty of facts.  Facts that would make a REASONABLE evaluation of the situation very simple.  To wit, CAB is NOT the last football coach available and, therefore, somebody else should have been hired.

Honestly, the small-town defensiveness and isolation from a lot of the news cycle is a big part of this story. There's a reason it's Mount Vernon and not Cy Ranch or McKinney or something.

Haven't really been following the aftermath, but has anyone asked the superintendent why they dropped the news on Friday evening of Memorial Day Weekend?  If the District truly believed he did nothing wrong, they would have wanted to deliver a "HOLY SHIT THIS LITTLE HIGH SCHOOL JUST NABBED A HUGELY SUCCESSFUL FORMER COLLEGE COACH" headline at the prime opportunity.

The timing of the news release says so much more than these worthless interview answers today.

Truth don’t lie!

Seriously, lots of organizations from different cultures make poor group decisions for varying reasons. One doesn’t have to cite “The Wire” in order to balance the critique of how Mt Vernon might embed CAB’s brand of hypocrisy into their culture.
