Hackers Steal Dirt on Hundreds of A-Listers, Including Trump

I have a feeling all the Non-Disclosure Agreements would be pretty juicy reading.

Ruh-Rho...

Article about Trump Involvement and Ransom here

A law firm used by A-list stars including Rod Stewart, Lil Nas X, Drake, Lady Gaga and Robert De Niro has been hacked.

The website for Grubman Shire Meiselas & Sacks is down and hackers claim to have 756 gigabytes of data including contracts and personal emails.

A screenshot allegedly of a Madonna contract has been released, and the criminals are demanding payment.

The New York law firm says it has notified its clients and is working with cyber-security experts.

It's not known what sum the hackers are demanding and whether the law firm is negotiating with them.

The law firm said in a press statement: "We can confirm that we've been victimised by a cyber-attack. We have notified our clients and our staff. We have hired the world's experts who specialise in this area, and we are working around the clock to address these matters."

The company's website is displaying just a logo but historic records of the site show a client list of more than 200 high profile people and companies.

Musicians include Sir Elton John, Barbra Streisand, Barry Manilow, Rod Stewart, Lady Gaga, Lil Nas X, The Weeknd, Madonna, U2 and Drake.

Other clients named are Andrew Lloyd Webber, Priyanka Chopra, Robert De Niro, Sofia Vergara, Activision, Inc, Sony Corp, LeBron James and Mike Tyson.

The hackers known as REvil or Sodinokibi previously attacked foreign exchange company Travelex with ransomware in January.

Ransomware is one of the biggest problems in cyber-security and is a malicious type of software that encrypts data until a ransom is paid, usually in untraceable crypto-currency Bitcoin.

Cyber-security company Emsisoft says the hackers have posted images online of a contract for Madonna's World Tour 2019-20 complete with signatures from an employee and concert company Live Nation.

Hackers have also uploaded an image they claim shows the stolen data directory with folders named under certain clients. Posting a sample of stolen data is often done as a way to prove a hack has happened and put pressure on a victim to pay a ransom.

"Companies in this position have no good options available to them," Brett Callow, threat analyst at Emsisoft said. "Non-payment of the demand will result in the information being published; payment will simply get them a pinky promise from criminals that the stolen data will be deleted.

"These incidents are becoming increasingly commonplace and increasingly concerning. And incidents involving law firms are even more concerning due to the sensitivity of the data they hold."

The law firm and some of the celebrities have been approached for further comment.

That's cute you think Trump is an A-Lister.  That guy is literally third rate at everything he's ever done in his life from fatherhood, to television, to real estate, to his presidency.

He's a walking C-

No argument there, still he’s high profile tho. Also, because he’s involved this is now being considered an act of “international terrorism”.

They want $42 Million and probably won’t get it.

Shit might get interesting...

More like vague descriptions of Berry Manilow’s gay, spun out trist with an anonymous twink, or perhaps some info on Lady Gaga’s predatory sexual assault.

Yeah, I guess blackmailing a sitting POTUS probably kicks things up a notch.  Who would take the lead on something like that...FBI, NSA, U.S. Military?

It's a good way to get yourself dead, I suppose.  And why $42mm?  Is that his whole net worth or something?

Well . . . It is the answer to the ultimate question of life, the universe, and everything.

FBI is involved and I believe I read somewhere also the Dept of Homeland Security

Maybe now would be a good time to put someone in charge of DHS after a 13 month stint of just acting directors.

It's a helluva lot of data, but it's going to be more like settlements and lawsuits, etc.  Like somebody said above, maybe info on sexual assaults, stuff being buried by the media, etc.  And a shitload of addresses of the stars and all that kind of stuff.

uh oh I hope it doesn't get out that these rich famous people are degenerate perverts!

and @Lobo, do you not understand what it means to be an "a-list" celebrity? it's a measure of the person's fame, not his or her aptitude.

Oh, that seems odd.  I always thought it was their grade point average. I always thought it was a strange coincidence that so many big Hollywood names could be so smart, yet speak so moronically.  Thank you for clarifying.

That would explain all the neg rep I've been getting for mentioned Trump on a thread, that you know...specifically mentions his name in the title.

While I would be just as curios to see the salacious details as everyone else, hackers are fucking scum. I hope they get identified and get disposed of in a most painful manner.

In hindsight, hiring his grandson Mordechai Grubman to handle IT for the firm may have been a mistake.

That's the strange thing, stick to just a bunch of Hollywood celebrities and the response will be mainly from security IT firms. Once you attempt to blackmail the pres, you get a whole different level of attention. Something seems odd about that. I realize that criminals arent always the smartest people, but the risk/reward ratio on blackmailing the US president for $42 million seems waaaaaay off.

Yeah, if they were smart enough to pull off this hack...they are smart enough to not lump him in with the other celebrities.  You can easily scare some narcissistic/paranoid actor or musician into paying up so their brand image doesn't suffer.  But now you've got the feds up your ass.  They're gonna trace who did this and they're gonna be interrogated within an inch of their lives to find out who they are working for/with.  And then they're gonna disappear.  And not like Hans Gruber sitting on a beach earning 20% disappear, like black site prison type of disappear.  Apparently POTUS was not a client, but obviously some of the clients must have mentioned him in various ways over the years to the lawyers at the firm.  Strange gambit on their part.  They went from about to being very rich to the most hunted people on the planet.

Dumb take. He's POTUS. All POTUSes are A-list, certainly when in office.

Yes, that's true.  Wasn't Reagan technically a B-movie actor?  Back when studios actually marketed them like that?  I guess he was the first person to be president who was a celebrity before, albeit a B-lister.  I suppose it wears off over time, I bet the majority of Americans couldn't identify Jimmy Carter if you showed them a photograph and asked them who it was.

The book of War didn't really have a chapter on hitting a target who has a cybersecurity team with an unlimited budget and a hard-on for finding/killing foreigners.

a little more detail from Page 6:

The ransom demand for the secret files of a cyber-attacked lawyer to A-list stars has doubled to $42 million — as the hackers now threaten to reveal “dirty laundry” on President Donald Trumpin just a week if they are not paid in full.

Attorney Allen Grubman — the most prominent entertainment attorney in the world, whose firm represents stars including Lady Gaga, Madonna, Mariah Carey, U2, Bruce Springsteen, Priyanka Chopra and Bette Midler — was being shaken down by hackers who attacked his New York law firm for $21 million until today.

Hacking group REvil got into his firm’s server and stole 756 gigabytes of confidential documents, including contracts and personal emails from a host of Hollywood and music stars. They also deleted or encrypted the firm’s backups. The only way they can be decrypted is to pay the criminals for a key.

Grubman, we’re told, is refusing to negotiate. A source said, “His view is, if he paid, the hackers might release the documents anyway. Plus the FBI has stated this hack is considered an act of international terrorism, and we don’t negotiate with terrorists.”

They added, “Mr. Trump, if you want to stay president, poke a sharp stick at the guys, otherwise you may forget this ambition forever. And to you voters, we can let you know that after such a publication, you certainly don’t want to see him as president … The deadline is one week.

“Grubman, we will destroy your company down to the ground if we don’t see the money.”

It is not clear why the hackers connected Trump to Grubman. The president has never been a Grubman client, according to sources, either as a private businessman or during his administration.

On Thursday, the hackers claimed to have hacked another prominent US firm and also posted a file of stolen documents titled “Lady Gaga” on their site on the dark web.

The contents of the documents in the file were not immediately clear, but cybersecurity software company Emsisoft, which specializes in ransomware, spotted it.

An analyst at Emsisoft, Brett Callow, said, “Companies in this situation have no good options available … Even if they pay the ransom demand, there is no guarantee the criminals will destroy the stolen data if it has a high market value. The data may still be sold or traded … In these cases, it’s possible that the criminals will attempt to extort money directly from the people whose information was exposed.”

He added that the requested ransom from the hacker group — which has previously attacked Kenneth Cole and Travelex — “was one of the largest demands ever heard,” with the previous known record demand being $25 million to an unnamed company, which was not paid.

Grubman’s law firm, Grubman, Shire, Meiselas and Sacks, said in a statement to Page Six, “Our elections, our government and our personal information are under escalating attacks by foreign cybercriminals. Law firms are not immune from this malicious activity.

“Despite our substantial investment in state-of-the-art technology security, foreign cyberterrorists have hacked into our network and are demanding $42 million as ransom. We are working directly with federal law enforcement and continue to work around the clock with the world’s leading experts to address this situation.

“The leaking of our clients’ documents is a despicable and illegal attack by these foreign cyberterrorists who make their living attempting to extort high-profile U.S. companies, government entities, entertainers, politicians, and others. Previously, the United States Department of Defense, HBO, Goldman Sachs, as well as numerous state and local governments, have been victims of similar cybercriminal attacks.

“We have been informed by the experts and the FBI that negotiating with or paying ransom to terrorists is a violation of federal criminal law. Even when enormous ransoms have been paid, the criminals often leak the documents anyway.

“We are grateful to our clients for their overwhelming support and for recognizing that nobody is safe from cyberterrorism today. We continue to represent our clients with the utmost professionalism worthy of their elite stature, exercising the quality, integrity and excellence that have made us the number-one entertainment and media law firm in the world
