Yes, let's just make college football more and more and more like the NFL. That's just a fantastic idea!! Fucking idiots....23 points

Asking the players to stay on the field and basically respect the fans that came and supported you while not requiring you to sing the song or even Hookem is hardly being tone deaf. Every other sport that is currently playing can do it without a problem. CDC is framing it exactly right. If you don't want to sing the song fine, but you can stick around and show appreciation to the fans who came to support you. Staying for the eyes has never been about singing the actual song. As for the parent in the earlier report claiming players didn't know the eyes were going to be played....Please, Sam was magically the only player that stuck around for the song because everyone else thought we just weren't going to play it.......yeah ok....21 points

fucking money in American politics. half the country is going to be eating tree bark next month and we spend billons to message to a tiny faction of folks actually on the fence - to help them choose between my grandpa and the 7 deadly sins. just stupid AF and a sign of a society wildly out of control. but I guess we know that. party on homies.15 points

I think we should use Donald Trump as the litmus test for allowing people to vote in this country. As future generations turn 18 we should make them watch video of this guy answering questions and then ask the new prospective voter if they would vote for this guy for president. If they answer yes then they lose the right to vote for being too stupid and a danger to the greater good of this country.14 points

I wonder if we can put it in the next coach’s contract that consistently shitting the bed against teams like TCU and Baylor also constitute “insubordination”14 points

She was born with Esophogeal Atresia. The upper and lower parts of her esophagus were not connected and there was a fistula connecting the lower portion to her trachea instead. Hoping she’ll finally get out this weekend, just as I’m done with my quarantine, but wife is still in for another 5 days after that. We haven’t been able to see her for a fucking week. It’s been brutal emotionally13 points

That's not how it works. It's obviously bullshit, and real people don't dignify bullshit with a response. It's not worthy of a response. Your boys aren't worthy of being affiliated with the office of President in any way. And we're taking care of that shit. The real way. Shove your asinine fake propaganda up your ass.13 points

Think about it: after I've spent over $500 on tickets and wasted lots of time in traffic and crowds, the last thing I want to do is watch an unprepared group of primadonnas get the shit kicked out of them, again, because they failed to do what they're on scholarship to do. Yet, I always stay until The Eyes because that's just part of the experience at the University of Texas- I am all-in for the team because they represent my school. I am showing respect for their efforts, even when they're woefully lacking.13 points

TRUMPKINS: "sEe! hUnTeR bIDeN iS cOrRuPt! BoTh sIdEs!" SANE AMERICANS: "Well, let's take a look. Yeah, this story is deeply flawed. I can go over all of the logical inconsistencies as well as the evidence that shows both the motive and expressed intent to fabricate a hit piece on Biden." TRUMPKINS: "tWiTtEr BuRiEd tHe StOrY! iT's A cOnSpiRaCy!" SANE AMERICANS: "Twitter indeed made an overtly hypocritical decision to limit the spread of this particular fake news story, which is not consistent with their past history of allowing fake news to be freely spread on their platform. However, that fact is not in dispute. Again, can we look at the evidence and rationale together for why this is a fake news story?" TRUMPKINS: ... TRUMPKINS: ... Negged for not even trying to hide your role as an amateur operative trying to push a hack story from a hack newspaper promoted by Trump's hack-in-chief who is himself known to have interjected himself into the Ukraine scandal proven by the impeachment prosecutors. (Your beloved, corrupt GOP overlords can't vote away truth.) You fervently back a man who calls the reputable press enemies of the state then you uphold the New York Post as a bastion of truth cruelly oppressed by the ebil lamestream media. I can, and do with much more substance, label you an enemy of the state. Anybody willfully, joyfully, and destructively promoting lies in the political discourse of a republic can be nothing other than an enemy of that republic. Refer to this post for any future negs from me. You know what you are. Despicable.11 points

That’s no shit. Did a side by side comparison of him and Charlie’s losses and, though both are unacceptable, god Charlie was awful. *edit to add side by side comparison of losses in case any of you are interested. This was in no means made to argue Herman should stay, but was explored in response to the idea that Herman is getting a bigger break than Charlie:10 points

When I think about the Eyes of Texas I think about the unbounded joy to the point of tears that took place in the stands after the 2005 season Rose Bowl win over USC. I think about twenty family members standing and singing with the team while watching on a TV in Texas. I think about the students in the Sugar Bowl who got to enjoy a big win and sing “The Eyes” after the win over Georgia in 2018. I think about singing in the stands with the team after brutal lopsided losses like 50-7 to Baylor in ’87, like 63-14 to OU in 2000 and like 65-13 to OU in 2003. The reason you stay to the end of the game, like so many other fans, is to show support for the team and let them know they don’t have to stand and face an empty stadium even though they just got their asses kicked. You could get close to the field, you could see their faces, and they could see yours. I would like to think these were times of unity and defiant Longhorn pride, even though by staying to the end of the game, you had to fight traffic and devote an extra hour and a half to your team. I think about Freddie Steinmark, standing with crutches on one remaining leg at the Cotton Bowl against Notre Dame, with horns held high and tears of joy in his eyes, 3-4 weeks after playing the game of his life against Arkansas and a few days after losing his leg to cancer. I think about Earl Campbell’s toughness and dignity in his last game, a Cotton Bowl loss to Notre Dame for the national championship. I think about Darrell Royal being carried off the field by his team after wins over Alabama in the Cotton Bowl after ’72 season, and over Arkansas in his last game at Memorial in ‘76. The image of him standing with his team during “the Eyes” while flashing Hook ‘Em after that Arkansas win is iconic Royal. I think about a funeral I attended where “The Eyes” made the playlist and we wore orange ties. I think about it being maybe the first song I ever learned. Curious what the alma mater means to other Longhorn fans.9 points

So if you have something to share, share it. Otherwise, you are a clown that has zero value other than you happen to be a guy that Whittington laughs at and occasionally probably gets to buy him beer or weed. Maybe you pull hamstrings together or some shit, I don’t know. Overall, your English is worse than your Ebonics. Fuck off and take your weak education somewhere in which it is appreciated, like Norman or Waco.9 points

The way the football program is going, I'm suggesting we feature them at halftime sandwiched between two halves of the Longhorn Band performing.9 points

Biden nailed the Green New Deal/fracking question and I say that as someone whose livelihood depends on fossil fuels. The reality is that the future is renewables, but to try to shoehorn a 100% transition in less than a decade would be an economic disaster. A smoother transition is needed.8 points

Haha, it's becoming very clear that CDC is using Texas writers to leverage Tom on the buyout. Repeated use of "insubordination" is a pretty big tip-off.8 points

In light of this new information about the Biden's how do I change my vote for Joe that I already cast? I don't want any President or his family in the White House that are stealing from people, doing fraudulent business acts, having sex with people other than their spouse, and doing drugs. I think that would be a bad look for our country.8 points

I’ve thought about this a lot - and I’ve changed my opinion over the last 4 months. I’ve gone from, “everything in our past that has (some) racial undertones should be removed. If we lose the EoT, so be it” to “is this really what we need as a society?” First, I’ve been attending UT sports for 40 years. My first “job” was selling cokes at the Alumni center before and after games. I’ve sung the EoT 1000s of times in many different contexts; After rout 66, after the Rose Bowl, in celebration of Ricky, after strollin’ Nolan, after being eliminated in a regional, good and bad. With a huge smile on my face or with tears in my eyes. For me, The EoT has always been an INCLUSIVE song. If you were young, old, male, female, binary, black, white or brown, if you threw the horns up and sang the song you were part of a group. The song in my mind has always meant 3 main things: 1. Your actions have meaning to many people (“the eyes of Texas are upon you”) 2. Your actions have have consequence (“all the live long day...you can not get away”) 3. Your actions will be remembered (“till Gabriel blows his horn”) this all means that as Longhorns we hold ourselves to a higher standard. Yes, I realize that at a certain time in history this song was used by stupid people in a stupid way. But if this is the lens we judge things with then pretty much everything can be questioned. The foundations of Texas Football itself can be declared racist - there was a man on the moon before a black player took the field in burnt orange.8 points
