  1. Tonight we have about five open beds, but no nursing staff to cover them. We could have had two of the patients with ICU orders admitted, but I had only agreed to come in to help the unit from midnight to four, specifically so I wouldn't have to take patients and double admit. Sorry, Austin. Couldn't do it tonight.

  3. New Orleans Mayor requires proof of vaccine to dine in. I’m sitting at lunch when this middle aged douche is asked for vax card. He screams “Fuck you!!” at the owner. Owner says, “Maybe a card with proof of recent eye exam as well, ‘cause I’m a large gay white guy, and the Mayor is a black female……you are yelling at the wrong person. Don’t ever set foot in here again.” Guy stormed out. Had been a sometimes customer.

  4. One of CHIEF Jr.'s best friends (a Marine) just got orders they are shipping out to Kabul in 24 hours. The thing he is worried about is exactly who is in the Hummer that pulls up beside you. It's going to be an absolute clusterfuck. His Mom, also a good friend, is absolutely beside herself. He said his "goodbyes" to her, his young wife, and new baby. CHIEF

  8. I’m at the point where I think the best solution to vaccine resistance is good old-fashioned reverse psychology. The CDC should announce via a “leaked” memo that vaccines are in short supply and are henceforth only available for the following groups: - Minorities - Registered Democrats - Graduate degree holders - Atheists - Fans of foreign cinema - Planned Parenthood contributors - ACLU members - Immigrants Of course, pharmacies and doctors will be instructed to give a vaccine to anyone who asks for one, while pretending to do the vaccine recipient a “favor” by going off the books. Throngs of idiots who formerly refused to get vaccinated would storm clinics, demanding vaccines.

  11. Three more days until I go back to teach. We have a mask mandate, and a non-insane governor, but I still dread it. Even if, IF, I don't have to deal with any Death Culters in my own classes, there is almost no chance that some professors and their students don't blow it off and loll around rooms that I need to use later, hacking up their plague gobbits. I am not 1/10th as exposed or stressed as Trauma Babe or other medical people, but I am still fucking scared. Been having nightmares almost every night about first day of class, how to finesse total strangers into taking precautions without blowing my stack. Contingency plans include -- Having assignments already pre-printed to give the students to take home and do, so I don't have to deal with mouth breathers who work in the office, or have to stick around inside if it's raining. -- Rain matters, because if it's sunny, we will have regular class outside, and I will get to know them from a safe distance. -- Gonna hammer hammer hammer that we are following the guidelines, maybe I'll have some Prior Service people in the class who can explain what real masking (MOPP4) feels like vs this little cloth thing. -- My classes are not officially online, but damned if they won't be if I detect any foolishness in the building. Shit fuck dammit.

  12. You mean high school kids don't sit around and discuss what college towns are "too liberal" these days? I'm shocked. It's almost like we've got a message board of 40 years olds that still need to convince themselves that moving to Katy was the only choice.

  15. anyone here going to the open practice on Wednesday? I'm going to take my father down to see the stadium in person, for probably the last time. I'm going to see how the team looks, check out the stadium renovations, and to take awkward angle photos of the field/SEZ to share with internet brethren.

  18. I’m really not a “political” guy (especially on here or online). However, given how things have gone done in the last few years and seem to be exponentially getting worse, I’ve come to the reluctant conclusion that we need to call out all of the dumb fucks just, if anything, to combat the horrific dumbing down of society that has happened as things as basic as medical issues have been corrupted as “political issues” by people who absolutely are not medical professionals and; prior to COVID, we all know were not espousing any “hot medical opinions” yet are suddenly “medical experts” …. but just on this one medical issue of COVID. TLDR: good Lord, stop being dumb fucks about something that you have absolutely no training or expertise at all and trust what the super majority of those that actually have schooling have to say about this medical issue (just like we ALL have done so about literally all other medical issues…before we had politically charged networks and social media telling us what to think)

  20. A reminder when you argue with DT refugees. These men (Sack included) have literally done a 180 on everything they "believe" in because a failed reality-TV star told them to. Mock, laugh, ignore. But, please, don't take them seriously.

  24. squack...."but Trump"....but Trump......but Trump......squack Trump set forth a conditions-based withdrawal with a timeline that could shift based on those conditions. After negotiations with the Taliban, who promised to stop attacking the Afghan government, we started to implement that. The Taliban began violating that agreement. When Biden took over, he did not embrace the Trump policy of conditions-testing, but kept to the timeline even advanced it blindly. Biden spent the first days in office overturning every single policy of Trump EXCEPT THIS ONE. He had eight months to review the plans, change them, put in carrots and sticks, and he did nothing except speed up the timeline, and deceive the Afghans about the timetable so they got caught flat footed. He can't say that he inherited this and had no choice but to act like a robot and implement it when he literally undid every single other policy of Trump. THAT IS ON HIM.

  26. Without tape or anything more concrete than "This is what we heard", it's impossible to know what the truth is in the zero-sum world of Scrimmage #1. Personally, I'm gruntled to hear that the defense is cohesive. PK's defense has a lot of moving parts. It's more philosophical than Orlando's Swiss-Watch designs, so it should be more tolerant of injuries and substitution patterns, but it does require everyone to be on the same page. If the defense was able to compete without major busts, that's a huge step forward. If I recall correctly, neither Sark nor PK are guys that hold back. Other coaches might say, "We want to test <x> of our offense. Stay in base and don't stunt, twist, or blitz". I don't believe either competitor takes that tack. It's likely that the OL and the offense faced every nasty thing Coach K has taught his defense thus far. In that light, it'd be expected that the offense doesn't quite measure up yet. I don't think they were, but even if both QBs were performing at 95% perfect, Sark would still call them out as inadequate. There's still 3 weeks until game time, and he wants every second to be used to improve. There's now tape on this offense against a real defense full of starters. The players that digest the information and bring those lessons to improve their performances will see the field more often. This was rehearsal #1. Everyone's got homework and notes.

Leave for a few days then then check this thread, and it sounds like you are discussing season 8 of game of thrones or something. Probably not going to check this thread again and will just enjoy the show.

  30. Just went to the Canon City, CO Walmart. This may be the Trumpiest of the Trumpy-places. 4 unrelated shoppers open carrying. At least half the people with some sort of visible display of antagonistic conservatism. Blue line American flags, MAGA hats and my personal favorite, a Dead Votes Matter T-shirt. These are the vestigial remains of small-town America, an environment where I grew up. It is generally populated by the worst and dullest now. Those that couldn’t figure their way to an environment more conducive to modern prosperity. They just exist here in these dead and decaying towns, the world passing them by, stewing over the effects of post-industrial change and directing their anger at whatever boogie man they are directed towards by whoever they identify as their source of truth and leadership. Not that they could ever recognize or understand that. They can rightfully sense their world is eroding, but they don’t have the ability to analyze it and react in a way that might improve their situation. They just have emotional reaction without meaningful thought, and it’s sad as fuck.

  31. Yup. I was an econ major and still work somewhat in the field and study it often. I just can't get over the opportunity costs. What could we have done the last 20 years with all that money? We could have saved countless lives with simple disease and hunger initiatives without needing bombs or other war machines. Afghanistan has been a lost cause since the 70s, at least. There are horrible situations going on everywhere. Afghan people will suffer. So are Uighur Muslims in China, and countless people in Africa. We can't solve all problems worldwide. If we're gonna spend that kind of money for humanitarian efforts, lets focus on food, medicine, clothing, housing, education, etc., the things that can actually help third-world countries without war. Edit to add that one thing we can do to help the Afghan situation, and others worldwide, is wide and robust refugee program for people to settle in the US. Make the burdens minimal. The only thing I care about is ensuring that we stop people from entering with bad intentions, and that number can be higher than zero if it helps the vast majority of people who need refuge.

  36. Pretty much this. I’d be curious to know how much of the OL struggles are getting beat on the edge versus inside. Seems like most of the practice talk has been interior pressure, which doesn’t tell us a ton about the OL because just about any OL in the country would struggle when facing Ojomo-Coburn and Sweat-Collins as the two deep. Also, like you said, Sark is going to do a lot to protect the OL through scheme and opponent-specific game plans. He’s not emptying the bag against our D in practice. it’s entirely possible our OL will suck, but these 9.95er practice reports don’t really tell us a whole lot either way. We’re mostly just going to have to wait and see come September. Or you know, go full Surly and declare the sky is falling right now.

  37. I've not been able to be around much lately. I feel like every summer, some of us get busy with other shit and then a bunch of the rest of you guys just get or stay lazy and let dipshits like this clown show up and develop enough rep, somehow, that they get to stick around throughout the season and buttfuck threads constantly. This guy posts too much and he's adding no value. How he has positive rep is beyond me. And I'm a supporter of being patient with new posters when they're not either trolls or just dipshits that can't sit back and learn for a bit, maybe read the room, before spewing their word vomit onto the board.
