  8. So I had this kidney tumor taken out in 2018, and they figured they got it all. Then they saw "interesting" little lumps on my right ribcage in another scan. I told them they were silly-- I was play swordfighting (fencing, epee) pretty savagely at the time, and that was the area where you'd get dinged by fancy rebar, ie the blunted swords. Doctors are so silly. Then in late 2020, some other shit came to light, and they found a few random metastasized kidney cells like, near my jaw. Well OK. Turns out that the original tumor, in its final days of the Collapse of the Third Reich of Tumors, had sent devoted cells to hide in Argentina (my ribs) and then a few of those were getting active and spreading like all o'er the place. Googled Stage 4 Kidney Cancer. Google said "Mothafucka you dead." I was surprised but those were Google's actual words. I just went through the motions doing what the doctors said. Pet Scan actually wasn't as bad as I feared-- instead of racks of pulsating tumors, I had some little carpenter bees drilling here and there. That's when I got the Voodoo Juice, ie Keytruda infusions every three weeks, and 6 to 10 mg of Inlyta pills every day. Only been in use for a short time. Expensive as hell, quick go marry a woman with good insurance. The Keytruda acts like a spotlight so my own immune system can spot cancer cells who usually glide about all sneaky, and the pills are like little Berserker Dwarf Warriors that charge through my body's passageways killing cancer plus the occasional regular cell. It's fun. It can have lots of inconvenient side-effects. Not as bad as traditional Chemo, and I luckily haven't gotten every single one at once. Landed on the Shart thread at least once, and in August 2021 my feet swole up so I could barely walk, but it's better at the moment and who cares, those rowdy drugs are murdering cancer. I have been extremely fortunate in the past year and a half. Good results immediately, the big lumps (almost an inch across) became medium lumps, and the small scattered stuff went poof. Then it made them a wee bit smaller, and for months it stayed stable. Hey, can't die from cancer if it's not growing. Then this past June was hell. Had some kind of flu, seemed Covid-y but tests were negative. My ass barely ate, lost 12 pounds. Sodium tanked, did 5 days in the hospital recovering. They figured out that my own immune system had mistakenly taking a bite out of my one adrenal gland, and I was headed towards an "adrenal crisis" where I'd maybe go into a seizure and start flipping around on the floor scaring little kids and stuff. So they got me jacked up on Hydrocortisone tablets, which are cheap and available all over the world. I read Keith Richards' book "Life" and now I live like Keef, purest drugs possible, taken like shifting gears in a car. Kinda fun and I feel 36 instead of 86 (DL says 61.) Oh, and the other thing that my immune system tore into? The remaining cancer. The former "big" one is 8mm across, 1/3 of an inch. Today Doc told me that soon we might experiment with dropping the infusions soon because she thinks my ravenous immune system is now wide awake and tearing into that last bit on its own. Cry havoc and release the immune system of war. So yeah, this thing could stop working. They could find toenail Aids next week or maybe the Alien Baby busts out my gut. But at my last scan, cancer was getting the shit beat out of it. So when you get cancer, this ain't 1950s soap opera cancer. Google don't know shit. Real smart kids are cooking up voodoo magic every year to help you and me. And of course @Nicole44 doesn't have to, but after all the time it took me to type that, it'd be kinda cool if she PMd me a photo or two. For artistic appreciation.

  10. I wonder how the aggy bag men are doing right about now Imagine you threw in a pretty sizable chunk of change last year. You didn't drain your savings, but mid five figures is still a lot of money. You worked hard for those insurance commissions and had planned to take the family to Destin. It was well worth the sacrifice to sign the best recruiting class ever. Whoop! A couple months later, your head coach puts on a very public show to say you don't exist and your contribution did not influence the class. You didn't do it for recognition though. And who does Nick Saban think he is?? He's just scared of what we're building in aggieland. Then, your most hated rival gets hot on the trail. They get some three star that's overrated because of his name and a bunch of your targets commit to follow him. It makes no football sense. They went 5-7! You want some good news so you turn on the Billy Liucci show to hear about the upcoming pool party. He's lamenting other schools for paying recruits. You open texags, get your daily rundown of politics, and go to the football board to find the entire fanbase mad at you. "We're behind on NIL! Our BMDs better step up," they say. Admittedly, some of the comments hurt a bit. You could have been drinking bud light lime on a beach that's even nicer than Port A. It's ok. You trust Jimbo. It's getting late, but you delay your nightly routine to look over your budget and your commission benchmarks. Now that you're a manager it'll take two less years to save a bag compared to last time. Then back to the usual - yell at the kids to go to bed, wife says no, polish the aggie ring, and tuck it into the maroon covers. Goodnight. I'd imagine that kinda sucks

  12. Sending Nebraska off with that game - they spent the entire off-season hyping that game, Texas was awful, Gilbert beat them by running the ball haha, etc. - and the Case scramble to send the ags off after Texas did absolutely nothing on offense all night…well, those two games will never not be hilarious to me.

  17. One of the unexpected components to what ATM did and the ensuing reaction by CFB coupled with the fucking tidal wave of legit NIL happening far faster than even the most bullish of us predicted? When the 2022 class starts to transfer out and head for greener pastures, the aggie idiots online further get to whine about the evils of NIL impacting the purity of what they did to sign that 2022 group. It's glorious. They'll go to their graves claiming that they would have pulled off the virtuous dynastic run of titles but for those meddling NIL programs!

  18. as someone who studied russian in high school, is fascinated with russian culture, art, and history, and who very much wants to see much of that country.... fuck all that. i ain't going there anytime soon, if ever. i'd love to see syria and iraq as well. however, i feel for griner. i don't even care if she was set up - her detention is bullshit. it's very clearly a political prosecution.

  20. This is absolutely the case. I cannot stress enough that the people who blame “mental health” are the very same people who staunchly oppose making mental or any other health care more accessible or affordable. If pressed, their best idea is to expand involuntary commitment. You understand that correctly— it is less of a limitation of freedom to forcibly detain people with mental illness, who may or may not be dangerous, than it is to restrict weapons availability. This is the argument. Slight digression. At one point I lived in a hot, angry, dangerous place that ended in “-Stan.” A place where national day was celebrated with gunfire (by the by, in Oakland some people got hit by stray celebratory rounds). I was very angry and pessimistic when I left, and it took me some time to work through how I felt and things like having partners gunned down. I have to say that more and more, one branch of the U.S. political spectrum reminds me of the conservative (not terrorist) population of that country. The answer to everything is harshness— more detentions. More security. More brutal punishments. More armed people to take on the “miscreants”. And a feckless, effete “liberal” class that throws up their hands. We are well down the road of becoming that sort of brutal, punishing, merciless people and so we will live in a brutal, punishing, merciless society.

  27. Otto Warmbier was arrested, tortured, and basically killed for stealing a propaganda poster in North Korea. They returned him to the U.S. in a coma just before he died. Donald Trump believed Kim Jong Un’s lie that he had nothing to do with it and fell in love with the murderous dictator. Trump is easily manipulated by shallow flattery. And N. Korea’s nuclear program is farther along now than it was before Trump took office. Should’ve treated Maria Butina like the Russian spy that she was and kept her in custody. We could trade her for Griner. But no, she’s free and now a member of the Russian Parliament.

  28. @fattyflattie FYI, I'm going to use the word gay here because it's easier to type, but when I say gay I'm talking about the whole spectrum, Lesbians, Gays, Transgenders, etc. As requested: 1. Florida Legislature votes on a bill that would make it so that teachers can't talk about their spouses (if their spouse is of the same sex) to their students, nor have pictures of those spouses on their desk, nor can they be a safe space for their gay students, nor can they try to create a space in their classroom that is safe for gay students, nor can they talk about being gay. The Florida Leg and DeSantis claimed this was scare tactics and that it was just about formal instruction not being allowed to talk about gay people to elementary school children. But now it has passed, and school districts are trying to adhere to the law and these are exactly what the school districts are saying are no longer ok. And DeSantis' spokesperson called all people against this bill "groomers," claiming that all of us who rightly called this out for the bigoted nastiness it is as people who are trying to turn kids gay so we can molest them. https://www.eqfl.org/statement-equality-florida-condemns-anti-lgbtq-remarks-desantis-spokesperson 2. Here's Boebert calling "the left" groomers because a pre-school in North Carolina used rainbox colored flash cards 3. Boebert again, talking about the Equality Act, which would make it illegal to fire people because of their sexuality says, So not only is she against gays having equal rights, but won't even acknowledge that concept of transgenderism. 4. Marjorie Taylor Greene - I'm gonna be honest, too many options to pick from. Here's a syllabus from GLAAD: https://www.glaad.org/gap/marjorie-taylor-greene 5. Back to DeSantis — Vetoed all funding for LGBTQ programs from the $101 billion state budget, including $150,000 for mental health programming to support survivors of the Pulse Massacre and $750,000 to house homeless LGBTQ children, as well as funds for Orlando's LGBTQ Community Center. The veto came during LGBTQ Pride Month and just days before the fifth anniversary of the 2016 mass shooting at the Pulse nightclub, one of the worst in United States history which targeted Central Florida’s LGBTQ and LatinX Communities, claiming the lives of 49 people. 6. Sen. Tommie Tuberville - Lamented Chick-fil-A’s decision to stop giving money to anti-LGBTQ charities: “Isn’t it horrible when liberal activists ruin something good?” 7. VP Mike Pence - supports conversion therapy, believing that since we chose to be gay, we can be shocked/counseled out of being gay, I guess. Even Trump realized that Mike hates the gays. He told reporters that Pence wants to hang us all. 8. More Pence - Stated that LGBTQ-inclusive hate crime legislation would “silence” groups that promote so-called conversion therapy: “Finally, pro-homosexual activist groups such as the Human Rights Campaign have stated their belief that an ad campaign by pro-family groups showing that many former homosexual people had found happiness in a heterosexual lifestyle, contributed to the tragic 1998 murder of homosexual college student Matthew Shepard. There is no evidence that his killers even knew about the ads, and Shepard’s killers told ABC’s 20/20 that they were motivated by money and drugs. However, the danger here is that people use a hate crimes bill to silence the freedom of religious leaders to speak out against homosexuality.” 9. Lt. Gov Ken Paxton, Texas - An Austin school dared to talk about the fact gay people exist during pride month. This aggression will not stand, man! 10. Ken Paxton again - Also is looking for a test case so he can get sodomy laws enforced in Texas again, now that the Roe overturn decision has gotten rid of a right to privacy. 11. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas - In his opinion concurring with the majority, claimed that overturning Roe calls into question marriage equality and sodomy bans, signaling that he'd be in favor of overturning both of those if given the chance 12. Texas Governor Greg Abbott - Issued a recommendation to the Texas state Board of Social Work Examiners that they remove protections for sexual orientation, gender identity, and disability. Following that recommendation, and without an opportunity for public comment, the board voted to adopt the recommendation and consequently Texas social workers can now turn away LGBTQ clients and those with a disability. “There is always a real possibility that trans Texans specifically could be turned away or dissuaded from accessing the medical resources they need. At a time when many in our community require services to make it through an isolating pandemic, attempting to grant providers a license to discriminate is abhorrent,” said Emmett Schelling, Executive Director of the Transgender Education Network of Texas. I could add a lot more, but I'm going to stop here. There is a never ending stream of people in power not only saying things but acting on those things who are actively out to make the lives of LGBTQIA+ people worse than it is today. This is known. I'm taking you at your word that you just hadn't noticed it before. I'll fall on the sword here and say that I do not spend nearly as much time here advocating for gay rights as I used to, but I'm happy to start that up again. But if you are going to continue to support these people, I want you to understand the absolute cruelty against people who are different that you are supporting. Condemning those things in a message board means nothing if you continue to vote for them.
