Pimpton's mid-season hudl:

http://www.hudl.com/v/2FnvxX

A bunch of clips of him Moss'ing some poor little DB's.  A couple of really great one-handed/arms outstretched catches.  A couple of him running over some people.

He looks like a natural pass catcher, good hands and he catches the ball away from his body. Willing blocker with a mean streak even though his blocking technique needs work. Good frame to add weight. He looks slow as molasses though.

Orlando: Let's offer him as a LB and have him blitz from the safety position.

Also qualified for state last year in the shot put.

He was a headcase piece of shit. So much time wasted on that recruitment.

122 career snaps for Watson at db and on special teams. 1 tackle, 1 missed tackle, and 1 penalty is all he has to show.

In contrast, Watts has 4 special teams tackles this year alone for Texas.

You are either a player capable of making an impact, or you aren't.

Is pimpton seen as a backup for duce, or would we take 2 MORE tes?

I think we are seeing a very different approach on how these coaches view the players due to the emergence of the portal. These aren't the days of Tom Herman where we just drop down to tier 2 if tier 1 doesn't work out. If we are offering guys late, it is because they are viewed as a take on senior evals regardless of what other guys are doing. They aren't going to reach for guys because we can always backfill in the portal. We saw this last year with late evals on guys like Ethan Burke and Savion Red. These guys are good players who turned heads immediately in camp, not 3 year projects before they ever see the field.

In Pimpton's case, he has gotten a flood of offers from LSU, Auburn, Texas, etc. recently and I hear Ohio State may offer as well if they haven't already.

I wonder if kids are still getting paid to take visits, or if that's become scarce in the NIL New Age now. Could be just trying to get his check? Wouldn't put it past aggy at the least to still pay for visits.

They are....why in the fuck do you think Malachi Nelson would even go to college station??

GH on Pimpton on the IT pod.

Paraphrasing

Texas wants a mismatch at TE. That's Pimpton. 6'6 baby face huge catch radius.

Expect an offer this weekend or shortly after.

12th man bio says he played OL in 2021 (4 games).

Timeline on 247 shows he spent 3 years at aggy and then portaled to CC.  Now has offers from Tenn, Auburn, and Miss St.

He's visited Ole Miss, Auburn, and Tennessee tomorrow.  Will have to get him on campus to have a shot.

Recruiting notes from IT

  Reveal hidden contents

Inside Texas delivers notes on the Texas-Iowa State recruiting visitor list, plus Markis Deal notes and JUCO news in the Humidor.

Texas vs. Iowa State visitor list

Arch Manning, QB, New Orleans (La.) Isidore Newman – #AllGasNoBrakes

Will Randle, TE, New Orleans (La.) Isidore Newman – #AllGasNoBrakes

Johntay Cook, WR, Desoto (Texas) – #AllGasNoBrakes

Jaydon Chatman, OT, Killeen (Texas) Harker Heights – #AllGasNoBrakes

Payton Kirkland, OT, Orlando (Fla.) Dr. Phillips – #AllGasNoBrakes

Trevor Goosby, OT, Melissa (Texas) High – #AllGasNoBrakes

Connor Stroh, IOL, Frisco (Texas) Wakeland – #AllGasNoBrakes

Andre Cojoe, IOL, Mansfield (Texas) Timberview – #AllGasNoBrakes

Billy Walton, EDGE, Dallas (Texas) South Oak Cliff – #AllGasNoBrakes

Walton is having a tremendous senior campaign, and has only cemented his upside as an edge rusher for the Longhorns.

Derion Gullette, EDGE, Teague (Texas) – #AllGasNoBrakes

The Longhorns are very solid with the ultra athletic linebacker/edge prospect. This will be yet another contest seen by the 6-foot-3, 228-pounder.

Malik Muhammad, CB, Dallas (Texas) South Oak Cliff – #AllGasNoBrakes

Texas continues to be a in good position, but Alabama is not close to giving up. Getting Muhammad back on campus this weekend is huge with the positive momentum in the program right now, and especially prior to OVs to Texas A&M and Alabama. Texas will have to recruit through the whistle. The family loved the Texas visit in June, and Muhammad likes the idea of playing for Texas and living in Austin. This weekend will serve as a reminder of that.

Jelani McDonald, ATH, Waco (Texas) Connally

One of the best pound-for-pound athletes in the 2023 cycle, the Oklahoma State pledge is set to see Austin this weekend. Texas offered this week and sees the On3 four-star at linebacker at the next level. This could trend UT quickly.

Ka’Morreun Pimpton, TE, Fort Worth (Texas) North Crowley

The Vanderbilt commitment will be in Austin on Saturday with his father. The family prefers close to home for the 6-foot-6, 220-pounder with an otherworldly catch radius. IT does not believe Pimpton sticks with Vanderbilt. A Texas offer would more than move the needle. Texas is zeroed in on Pimpton and On3 Consensus 5-star and Phoenix (Ariz.) Pinnacle TE Duce Robinson.

MORE NOTES

Inside Texas mentioned recently to not forget about the junior college ranks with the 2023 cycle. We first got tipped off to the Longhorns evaluating junior college players by a long time JUCO source in Mississippi. And we can now report that the Texas staff is beginning to zero in on defensive line, and potentially the edge position, at the junior college level.

The likeliest scenario is Texas adding a JUCO interior DL that can make an immediate impact with Keondre Coburn, T’Vondre Sweat and Moro Ojomo not expected back next season. Finding an impact player for next season is taking precedence right now. IT will have more when the time is right, i.e when a potential visit gets lined up. The competition for two of the top defensive linemen in junior college are SEC programs Tennessee, Ole Miss, LSU, Mississippi State and South Carolina.

In the high school ranks, the Longhorns continue to be in a solid position with On3 Consensus 4-star and Garland (Texas) Naaman Forest prospect Markis Deal. Texas will receive the final official visit after Naaman Forest’s season concludes. The family really likes the idea of close to home, and that benefits Texas and potentially TCU. Georgia remains in the mix for sure.

Damn so we’re finally acknowledging Collins as a bust. Who was the poster on here that championed him as a future 1st round pick, the same poster also said Byron Vaughn was the next big thing lol.

Not certain we can fully go that direction.  I mean there were prominent posters on this board who wanted to trapdoor Coburn last year....Then again who knows.

The JUCO DL stuff is concerning. I know let’s blame Herman, but we should have a couple sophomores that can play.

It is the opposite of concerning. We are currently playing 6 different guys on the inside. We are losing at a minimum half those guys after this season.

I think one of the reasons our DL has been so good is the ability to rotate 6 guys throughout the game. After the season that Coburn and Sweat are having, I think they like the idea of a couple 340# guys rotating inside.

  • Marques Caldwell and Marcus Tillman are at Juco thanks @Hookem2147
  • Javonne Shepherd doesn't appear to be playing football

only guys out of that group that are doing much of anything are McCoy, Marcus Washington, Willie Tyler and Caleb Johnson when he was at UCLA.

Smith might have medically retired. I don't think he's even on the roster for USC.

Caldwell and Tillman are both in junior college now.

I'm not sure there was one transfer that ended up hurting us.

Can we get updates on the guys from the 2020 & 2021 recruiting classes that portaled out?

Is this the football board? Hit the portal for some interior DL. To hell with some Last Chance U extras reading at a 5th grade level. We’ve had what, 1 JUCO work out in 10 years?

So you're really suggesting UT shouldn't even bother to scout for & recuit blue-chip JUCO guys?

After his effort last season, losing him wouldn’t have hurt my feelings. I’m glad he decided to take advantage of the opportunity.
