Nobody.
There’s a material chance that the top echelons of our military will someday soon be having the conversation they never want to have - is this a lawful order or not? What do we do?
Or maybe, we have US marshals going to the White House to execute an arrest order on a charge of contempt against the POTUS. They attempt to make entry and make an arrest....what does the Secret Service do?
There’s a fair chance we’ll find out. Doesn’t matter what the answer is. Forcing the question means we’ve all lost.

It seems to me that if he digs in (or appears to be doing) between the election and the inauguration, then the 25th goes into play.  He no longer is the accepted POTUS and the secret service would then switch to protection of the incoming POTUS.  Yes he would still have his detail, but it would not be high priority anymore.

Another thing to consider is once he's out, then all his dumbass kids lose their details too, and he's going to have to start paying for security.  Or keep running on the dream that America loves them some Trumps and won't go after any of them.  And they won't be able to hide away, what with all the court appearances they will be making.

They get SS protection for life.  Not sure what happens if they go to prison.

He won’t bail. That would mean admitting guilt or that he is wrong. He’s never going to admit defeat. If he survives impeachment and loses the election, he will say it was rigged. He will never leave gracefully.

This is a guy who loved to use the catchphrase "YOU'RE FIRED!", and yet he doesn't have the balls to fire people to their faces.    He's going to cut a deal and bail.

When he loses the election, assuming he is still running, he can't stop John Roberts from swearing in somebody else, and there is no way in hell he wants the media seeing him escorted out of the White House.

He won't leave gracefully - I have no doubt he will burn down the GOP on the way out, and will probably release all of the dirt he has, but he's going to leave on his terms, and most likely with agreements in place in regards to federal legal issues.

He'll spin a bunch of smoke about how he was draining the swamp, but the swamp was too deep, and he got trapped in the muck.  Even the super brain Trump couldn't overcome the swamp, and he and his poor family will have to pay for it answering to fake charges brought against them by the deep state in courtrooms across the country.  He'll sell the whole country down the tubes to save face.  America was too stupid to realize what a great man they had, and they turned on him, just like Jesus was sacrificed, so be donnie. They just weren't smart enough to grasp the intricacies of his deals!

You are seeing some of this already with his PRESIDENTIAL HARASSMENT and the like tweets.

Yeah, that's why i said he'd still have his detail.  I have thought about the whole SS in prison scenario for a while now.  Probably have a separate wing or even facility for this admin.

I imagine the SS would have shifts to protect him. I bet they even put his name on the building. TRUMP PRISON. It actually has a nice ring to it.

Giuliani planning a scheme involving Ukraine as the hub for an interference campaign in our elections began in Fall of 2017.  This increases the likelihood Barr was vetted as a potential AG willing to corruptly play ball with some foreknowledge of what Rudy already had in mind.  Barr's "audition letter" in June 2018 could have been his public signal to Trump Co that he was on board with what was already well into the planning phase.  Weeks after Barr's letter appeared, Giuliani started going public with comments related to Ukraine and the scheme the whistleblower reported.

If they're removed from office, I don't believe they get lifetime secret service protection any more. However I'm sure the current president has the authority to provide that protection even if they law doesn't require.

Republicans in congress will bail on Trump as soon as it makes sense to politically. We're closer to that point now than ever before.

I'm picturing a parade float, with him standing on a scale in his tighty whities, with a digital display pumping out his weight, IQ, literacy level and hand size, while a shower head pours cold water over him.  Float can be pulled by Hannity, Huckabeef and others in draft harnesses.

I'm getting tiresome repeating this, and I know most of you know it: the phone call is the detail at the end of an entire campaign to engage Ukrainian officials in election interference. The press will do another disservice to the country if they allow the president to keep them stuck on the phone call and quid pro quo.

The fired American ambassador needs to be questioned soon so that she can illustrate this even further. She wasn't fired because of the call. She was fired because she wasn't helping with the conspiracy prior to the "perfect call."

Don't forget his actual net worth.  Show what he started with, where it is now, and who he owes.

Also, I wouldn't let his family get off scott free either.  I'd throw Jr in a lion's den, considering his love of big game.

The only thing I don't want is an assassination. That will only make Dolan a martyr and the fucking insane assholes in this country will flock to their arms. Besides he needs to be held to account for his crimes against this country, against our Constitution, and against humanity.

Also, keep in mind that baron (or whatever his name is) is still a literal child. Sure, he may be influenced by Dolan, but he needs to be kept out of it and brought up in a civilized manner.

3 weeks ago you would have said there was a 0% chance that polling would show almost 1 in 3 Republicans would support the impeachment investigation.

that's true.

how many Republicans do you think would favor impeachment and removal from office - currently, or ever?  i would say that is (and will be) somewhere between 0% and 1% as to both.

i realize you and brisket have dug your foxholes here, but the reality is that things change. brisket thinks trump will destroy democracy and become a lifelong dictator (which is fitlump-level insanity). you're under the assumption that trump winning in 2020 is a foregone conclusion.

meanwhile, my opinion is that things are slowly (actually, somewhat rapidly) crumbling around trump. the impeachment inquiry, his taxes are about to released, whistleblowers coming out of the woodwork, staunch republican allies vocally disparaging him (see graham's tweet re: the kurds today), SDNY case, fox news anchors turning, etc....you and brisket would say none of that matters (because you've already decided how this ends), but all of it does matter. sentiment is changing.

This.  Because of math.  The GOP cannot continue as a viable party without the support of the strident Trump cultists.  They are the dominant bloc of the party (pssst.....they are effectively the ENTIRE party base now).

All any GOP elected official has to do is ask this simple question: can I get re-elected without the support of the Trumpists?  The answer, in every case, will be "NOPE."  So, they will not betray the cult leader, because electoral survival dictates that path.

False.  I don't think he'll become a lifelong dictator.  But I absolutely do think that he is destroying our democratic foundations beyond repair.  His presidency is the new model, and he is creating a hereditary dynastic cult.  We will not be cursed with Trump for decades to come -- just for another four years.  But we will be cursed with Trumpism, and his progeny perpetuating it, for decades to come, AND we will be unequipped to do anything about it, because the mechanisms to check it have been utterly destroyed and the earth under them has been salted.

That some of you do not see that we are following the recipe for "how to destroy a democratic republic" to the goddamned letter truly amazes me.  Seriously, I'm not that smart.  I'm not picking up on something mysterious or hidden.  It's all right there out in the open, as obvious as can be.

of course it would have to be substantially larger to support the weight of a large feral hog but it would be quite the symbol.

That's not the right question.  The question is "can I get re-elected with ONLY the support of the Trumpists?"

If that answer is perceived by some to be "no", then they will take steps to distance themselves.  It's entirely possible that doing so would not ensure success, either, but you are watering this down too far.  The GOP votes for Trump were not exclusively cast by "Trumpists" -- many of his voters had no idea what they were doing.  If they abandon him then (in a free and fair election) he will likely lose.  You simply do not know how many of those (R) votes have soured on Trump, even though you will continue to beat your chest and claim with no evidence that it's "EVERY ONE OF THEM".

I eagerly await your braying reply, which will probably include references to vote hacking, a ledge, and naivete.

i disagree with this.  there's a lot of y'all that will filter back to the republican party after trump and his cultists are gone saying, "phew, glad that's over, now we can get back to fiscal responsibility and personal responsibility and strong gun rights and outlawing abortion," and thinking this was just some phase, rather than the republican party rearing it's ugly head and exposing its pro-plutocrat, fuck you got mine self.

This. Politicians want to stay in power and not simply blindly protect Trump. If protecting Trump will keep them from staying in power, they will stop. GOP stuck with Nixon for a long time, until they didn’t. The poll shifts in just two weeks have been significant. Imagine public sentiment continuing that sharp trend over an entire year as more criminal conduct comes to light. GOP messaging is failing.

oh and Trump will issue a blanket pardon for himself, his kids, and Barr before his last day in office- whenever that may be.

See, the thing is, those people are actually trumpkins.  They pretend not to be to distance themselves from his more outlandish buffoonery, but those things you listed are fully embraced by the trumpkins and "conservatives" alike.  They lie about all of it.

I think not. I know folks who thought Trump was an act to get elected, and that he would straighten up after election. I know some mortified folks willing to admit they were taken. Most marks won’t admit being conned, but we only need 1-5% and a few more independents.

Trump's tweets and comments show that he is scared shitless that things are starting to crumble around him.  Him going after Mitt was an attempt to send a message to other Republicans not to waiver in their support.
