I highly doubt a booster's kid would talk shit to the head coach of the school his dad is giving money to. Like it said above, it was probably in jest. O being the asshole that he is probably didn't appreciate anyone disrespecting him, in jest or not. Dude is a fucking idiot. In the corporate world, he would be considered a walking HR nightmare.

isn't this the case for the majority of P5 coaches?

As of Tuesday evening/night, Justice Finkley (Hewitt-Trussville, Ala.) had not told the Alabama staff he going to play for the Crimson Tide. There is confidence on the Alabama side, but Finkley has not committed

The No. 190 ranked prospect in the On300 continues to be in communication with members of the Texas staff. There has been growing confidence in recent weeks.

Colorado is the third school remaining in the mix.

That’s correct. As relayed after it happened by someone who knew all parties. This and a few other incidents are what solidified the resolve on the booster end that Herman was unhinged and needed to go. They also joined a booster’s family on a private flight and stay in Mexico and treated the entire family like shit while openly bickering with each other. Herman honestly thought he could do whatever he wanted until he was “shocked” with the news by on his guys that Texas was honestly in talks with Urban Meyer. Dude couldn’t believe it as he lost 3 of 4 to TCU and 4 of 5 to OU, plus 2 of 2 to Maryland.

The coach O thing is believable until you get to the ripping the shirt off. Poster overplaying their hand there.

I assume this is a joke. The man literally has a documented history of ripping his shirt off when he gets pissed off. Even if you don't buy it, I'm not sure you can be considered "overplaying" a hand when he was documented doing it in Meat Locker or whatever book it was that had him attempting to fight his own players or whatever.

Gerry Texas 5 Star Targets:

Texas sits comfortably inside the top 10 class rankings after a late August run of On300 defensive line commits.

In order to ink a top 5 class, a couple of five-stars will have to sign with the Longhorns.

Texas Longhorns recruiting and the 5-star's in 2022

Texas' top 10 ranked class includes 11 members of the On300. To ink a top 5 class, a couple of five-stars will have to sign with the Longhorns

 www.on3.com

The Texas Longhorns have a top 10 class committed, and remain in the hunt for a handful of five-star prospects.

Among the handful of five-star prospects on the board are two must-get recruits. Steve Sarkisian and staff simply must sign one-time verbal Evan Stewart and IOL Devon Campbell.

Not only would that give Texas a legit shot at a top 5 class, but change the perception inside the state lines.

Inside Texas runs down the recruitment of the five-stars still on the board in Austin.

5-star Texas targets

Evan Stewart, WR, Frisco (Texas) Liberty
On300 ranking: No. 5
Official visits: Florida (June 4-6), Texas (June 18-20), Alabama (November 6-7)
May schedule official visit: LSU

There remains a thought by one person close to the nation's No. 1 receiver that he likes the idea of playing at Texas. That has been consistent. Florida has two visits in the rearview mirror, and a tight relationship with On300 quarterback commit Nick Evers (Flower Mound). The Alabama official is lurking, and the house will be rocking when the Crimson Tide take LSU to the woodshed November 6.

Harold Perkins, LB/hybrid, Cypress (Texas) Cy Park
On300 ranking: No. 8
Official visits: Texas A&M (June 4-6), Texas (June 11-13), Florida (September 18-19)
May receive official visits: LSU and Alabama

Perkins will play in the SEC, period. He has mentioned that he may not use an official visit on LSU since he’s been there so many times. LSU is chilling until the push for a late November or December 12 official. The elite athlete at linebacker has planned to be in the stands when Alabama plays at Texas A&M October 9, but Cy Park has a game that day. Perkins is also expected back on campus at Texas during the season.

Denver Harris, CB, Houston (Texas) North Shore
On300 ranking: No. 12
Official visits: LSU (June 11-13), Texas (June 18-20), Alabama (June 25-27)

The latest five-star prospect out of powerhouse North Shore could commit this month. In recent weeks, Harris has talked about September 22 as a possibility. Nick Saban is the best head coach relationship Harris has developed. The Texas staff has done an impressive job of working Harris' entire family, along with the cover corner. Corey Raymond is Harris’ favorite position coach, but LSU has been considered third in the race despite a strong connection in Harris’ circle. If the Longhorns are to win out here it would be Harris seeing an opportunity to play early, and the chance to be a face of the program type player for a program that will ascend under Steve Sarkisian.

Jaleel Skinner, TE, Greer (S.C.) IMG Academy
On300 ranking: No. 17
Official visits: Florida (June 9-11), Alabama (June 18-20), Texas (June 21-23), Miami (June 25-27), Florida State (September 5-6)

Skinner will commit October 9, one day after he turns 18. The 6-foot-5, 210-pounder wrapped up the official visit process over the weekend with a trip to Florida State. The Seminoles have been considered the favorite for a while, partially due to a strong connection to a person on the staff (not an on field assistant). Texas is right there with FSU due to the diligent work of Jeff Banks. Clemson is considered the “sleeper,” which is funny to say considering the Tigers standing in CFB. One person close to Skinner said showing the most love to Skinner in creative ways stands out to the five-star tight end. Staffs have to engage him, and with a pitch that is not the same old vanilla recruiting approach.

Devon Campbell, IOL, Arlington (Texas) Bowie
On300 ranking: No. 18
Official visits: USC (June 4-6), Oklahoma (June 18-20), Alabama (October 2-3)
Official visits to be scheduled: LSU and Texas

Campbell has been on campus at Texas more than any other school. He has made three unofficial trips since March. Oklahoma’s cohesion between Lincoln Riley and Bill Bedenbaugh impressed Campbell and family on the official visit to Norman in June. Campbell and family are making a return unofficial visit to Oklahoma this Saturday to check out the Sooners game day atmosphere. USC is in the mix, but there is a belief in the Trojans coaching staff that Campbell will end up closer to home. The Longhorns are very likely to receive the final official visit.

July told a poor June story, but Steve Sarkisian’s initial class is going to be judged by what happens from now until the first signing day. Currently the class is ranked #6 nationally, which is good, but there are already 20 commitments comprising a sub-.90 average player rating. Sure, that number is skewed by the inclusion of a couple specialists, but it’s more notably skewed by the absence of true star power.

That lack of star power underlines traits that are missing from the class as much as general elite talent or household names. You don’t have to be a household name to provide what’s missing in this class. An example would be an unknown prospect in the mold of Christian Jones addressing the first missing component of the class below. Of course you’d like to address deficiencies with equally high ceiling players but with a much more certain floor.

Tackle length and athleticism

Texas has two quality interior prospects committed. Westlake’s Connor Robertson and Frisco’s Cole Hutson are good fits for Kyle Flood. Robertson would add size at center and Hutson has the necessary size and athleticism to play guard for Flood. Hutson and Hayden Conner aren’t all that different.

When looking at the current roster it’s clear Texas needs tackles of the future. Christian Jones only has one year remaining after this one. Derek Kerstetter departs after this season. Andrej Karic may be a better fit for guard. Ditto Conner. Isaiah Hookfin has another step or two to take. Etc.

Texas needs a high floor offensive tackle who can play by year-two at the latest.

I was pleased to see On3 rank Atascocita’s Kam Dewberry in the 60’s in the national rankings. Gerry and I weren’t the highest on him a year ago but without even discussing Dewberry recently, it appears we both came around to similar conclusions. Dewberry isn’t the tallest, most stream-lined athlete, but he has the arm length for tackle. If I had to pick one prospect in the state who I felt strongest about having an 8-10 year NFL career, I might go with Dewberry.

The staff will continue to work on Summer Creek’s Kelvin Banks. Oregon struggled in its first game and Texas should be better than the Ducks in general. It will be key for UT to overcome whatever it is Banks likes about Oregon, but the on-field product should take care of itself.

I don’t count Arlington Bowie’s Devon Campbell as a tackle, but in my estimation he‘s athletic and long enough to play on the right side. He’s a must-get regardless.

Early playing time will be there for whoever steps to the plate. I wouldn’t be surprised by a Portal addition in the offseason.

Play-making at wide receiver

Play-making can come in a couple of different ways. It’s well documented the roster needs an infusion of speed at the position. But guys who can create YAC and win 50/50 balls are needed as well.

Texas needs to land two between Evan Stewart (Frisco Liberty), Brenen Thompson (Spearman), Jordan Hudson (Garland), and Shazz Preston (St. James, LA).

Armani Winfield (Lewisville) is committed; I like his ceiling more than his floor. Hopefully he shows good production in his return to the field this week.

Like with offensive tackle, early playing time is there for the taking while being even easier to come by for a receiver.

Hopefully you were encouraged by UT’s receivers blocking with effort versus Louisiana. If Andre Coleman can get those guys blocking well, I’m growing in confidence that he is indeed a quality teacher of the position. That will sell on the trail, but ultimately Sark’s scheme and proven usage should do the heavy lifting.

Lead corner

Texas has two potential corners committed in Austin Jordan (Denton Ryan) and Champ Lewis (Warren Easton, NOLA), but both are just as likely to play nickel or safety.

Bryce Anderson (Port Arthur Memorial) could also be considered a corner/nickel/safety, but his verified speed gives him a strong chance to play corner. He’s committed to Texas A&M and won’t be an easy flip, but the Texas staff will recruit him through the whistle.

The staff is also keeping an eye on On3 five-star Terrance Brooks (Little Elm). Like Anderson, he’ll be very difficult to flip, in this case from Ohio State.

Of course the biggest name at corner is five-star Denver Harris (North Shore). People assuming he ends up at Alabama might be wise to prepare for the worst and hope for the best. However, my read after doing extensive homework on it yesterday is Texas has a strong pulse and this recruitment may still have a plot twist or two in it.

Texas definitely needs a true corner or two in the class, but fortunately Kitan Crawford and Jahdae Barron will be ready to start next year and Ishmael Ibraheem and Jamier Johnson are showing early promise.

Linebacker

From my vantage point there’s some uncertainty in the class. Eoghan Kerry (Mater Dei, SoCal) tests well and might be able to play off-the-ball, especially as Texas joins the SEC, but his best position may be EDGE. Trevell Johnson (Arlington Martin) will miss his senior season due to injury and is on a longer developmental curve anyway.

Texas needs to strike while the iron is hot with DeMarvion Overshown. After he’s gone, the staff won’t have another player like him to market to potential recruits.

Harold Perkins (Cy-Park) is the big name here. While I’ve been bearish regarding this recruitment, if everything else is equal, Overshown’s marriage to scheme gives UT a fighting chance.

*****

You may notice the biggest remaining needs by position coincide with the biggest remaining needs by star power. Many of these recruitments are the highest profile of the cycle. As we enter the championship rounds of the 2022 cycle, how Sarkisian and his charges finish the fight will define their first recruiting class.

This is a tangent, but in case anyone doesn't already know it is essentially impossible to actually open an airplane door while in flight because of the pressure differential inside vs outside the plane.

If there’s more pressure on the inside of the door than the outside, why doesn’t the door want to fly open?

or are you saying the pressure makes it very difficult to engage and move the mechanism?

i also have questions vis a vi treadmills and their applications to takeoff and you seem like the guy with the answers.

All airplane doors (on planes that are pressurized) either swing inward, or must otherwise be pulled inward before swinging outward. You can't pull them inward at all due to the much higher pressure inside the cabin.

That's a damn easy recruiting pitch. "Come here, get better by playing against the best of the best everyday in practice. We prepare you for the NFL like no other team can."

i mean, Bama avg about 10 players drafted per year over the last 5 years (51 players in 5 drafts, 21 first round picks)

spoilering this because it is gory as fuck

Spoiler

same timeframe for Texas? 15 players, 3 per year. 0 first round picks.

Um...wouldn't 15 over 5 years be 3/yr?

After watching Euliss Trinity's RB/ATH #2 Ollie Gordon (who is committed to Oklahoma State) play vs our Chaps, I think that was one the greatest performances by a HS player I've ever seen. He rushed for over 200 yards and everyone knew he was getting the ball on every play. He was literally all they had, so they schemed the ball to his hands on virtually every play. He even threw a completed pass that must have been 60 yards in the air. We won 34-14 but man, seems like that dude had 1 or 2 players hanging on for dear life on every play and it often took 3 to bring him down!

Dude ran for over 400 yards vs Allen in the playoffs last year. Yes, that is not a typo. I sure wish we could get him to flip.
