This.  I hate to sound callous but we need to taint meth with something that can cause overdose.  Tainting meth would put a lot of the problem children who prey upon the people in this city in their forever box.

DA’s mishandling of witness evidence ends Southeast Austin murder prosecution

Double jeopardy ensures Dekatur Richey won’t face trial after the Travis County DA's office failed to disclose key evidence in Austin case.

Like I said, Garza is just plain bad at the blocking-and-tackling of running the DA's office.  The bulk of the job is boring, ministerial shit....that's super-duper important to running an efficient and effective office.  Kind of like the practice of law in general.  95% boring, mechanical, but super-important shit, without which, you never even get to do the 5% cool and exciting stuff.

But we are so locked in to a pointlessly partisan battle that we're never going to have another election for any office about anything that actually matters to the office.

Man, Plohetski hates him some Garza.  Guess it's pretty easy pickings for a journalist when you're fucking up as much as this slime.

I'm hearing a MINIMUM of 2.5M spent on that logo.  That mismanagement of funds should look good for that upcoming tax increase election...

If the City Council spent more than $250 to have someone come up with that stupid logo, then the excess should be garnished from their city salaries.

It looks like MK spent more than that on her avatar’s makeover.

How does that reduction track the rate of overall crime reduction nationwide/in the rest of California?  That is, crime rates have been on and continue on a downward trend in areas that have NOT recalled their DAs.  Is this rate of reduction better, worse, or about the same, as the rate of reduction in the "control" group?  I genuinely don't know.

Oh, those stats are fake.

I can only assume that piece of heavy machinery was destined to be used somewhere along the I35 construction project. Its probably not reasonable to expect them to know about clearances along I-35.

Perfect. Austin is whiter than Cracker Barrel's clientele.

Terrible. Overpriced.  Seems on brand to me.

As branding exercises go, this wasn’t terribly expensive and I don’t get bent out of shape by small potatoes expenses but the result here is absurd and somebody in the CM’s office should have redirected this or better yet, done it in-house. This bears all the marks of overthinking engagement and feedback during the process. The firms involved should have insisted on a better outcome.

I’m sure they had 28 “charrettes” to get to the result. You gotta have charrettes.

They spent about $500k on this and the majority was on engagement as opposed to design hours. So… pretty much.

Haha, I was waiting for someone to start commenting on the redesign.

Gemini just made this one in three seconds for free:

Or this one if you're feeling weird.

or this one if you want to find out how fast Bellmont's attorneys can draft a cease and desist.

$570k- $200k for the actual design work and the balance for engagement.
Actually rebranding stuff with it will cost another $500kish.

So, this isn’t a high dollar project for this kind of work. But the result is Fiverr level circa 2010.

That's not really an elected-DA problem, although the buck stops with Garza.

That's a dumbass or unethical line prosecutor problem.  Line prosecutors, outside the Trump administration, don't change with the head of the office.

Dallas' logo is old as shit, like 30-40-50 years.

Funny thing, they didn't register a trademark and some rapper type has been using the logo for a good long time in connection with apparel and got a registration.  The City Attorney's office has failed in its efforts thus far to cancel the rapper's registration, despite long predating the use.

She’s not wrong, but only half of that is spent externally. The rest is cost that will get deployed going forward.

Quote

Jessica King, the city's chief communications director, said the contract the council approved with the firms was about $564,000. She said the vast majority of that went to outreach and engagement, while the design element was about $200,000. But she added that, "Overall, when you look at all the things that we're putting together, [the cost of the project is] about $1.1 million."

SMU sells merch and wears unis with the logo on it.

Not sure if that's a co-branding arrangement or what.

I listened into the city hall announcement about it, and they cited the all in cost of $1.1M for the logo redesign.  But noted this isn't the cost of revamping all the logos out there (think shirts, cars, buildings, signs, etc).  Those will be rolled out as the equipment hits EOL and is replaced.

$1.1mm? That’s WAAAY too cheap for a consultant grift.
This is just a poorly executed design.

Fifty and they hit it out of the park, too. As always, Dallas does everything about being a city better than Austin and decades earlier. Probably because it has much smarter voters and far stronger civic leadership both inside and outside of city government.

Not a fan of Johnson but we’ve done worse. And besides, since Dallas is not a strong mayor city (and neither is Austin, Mashallah!) he doesn’t actually manage anything.

Fuck all those.  They are images of an Austin that was, not the Austin that is.

Tell your AI to give us a logo that has a techbro douche driving a cybertruck slow in the fast lane on Mopac on his way to some overcrowded new "it" joint full of 200 "influencers" all recording themselves drinking $28 cocktails and eating mediocre $30 "small plates."  That there would be an accurate brand.
