Well the #1 class stuff was fun but it looks like we’re broke now.

Are we really broke? I just bought a couple of shirts.

Somebody educate me on Tech recruiting. Why would they splurge for Ojo? Their class looks pedestrian. You’d think their class would look more like Aggie if they really wanted to spend some money.

Trying to shame someone for their opinion doesn’t make you sound any smarter
the best teams are constructed through high school recruiting that portal shit may work for a season, just ask Florida State or Ole Miss.

The best teams also won’t spend money inefficiently. Money that goes to a freshman developmental take won’t be available for a contributor. Financial discipline will allow you to spend when necessary. There is quite a bit more at stake here beyond winning or losing isolated recruitments. What do you think Goosby will want to come back for another season after Ojo gets $1M to sit on the bench for at least two years? Players that auction themselves off in high school will do it every year with the portal. At least wait until he’s ready to contribute before you pay him that kind of money or find another developmental take that’s already bloomed at a smaller school. No one is advocating for only looking at the portal to construct a team, but it can be used to fill gaps in development arcs. It’s how Sark has handled things to this point. I imagine he’ll continue to do so…and the post I quoted was literally you calling another poster’s take crazy. Spare me this trying to make myself look smarter bullshit. My username is IDIOTsavant for fuck’s sake.

Could we circle back on Roseborrough?

This is my thing, if we already knew (or knew of the possibility) that we weren't going to be offering crazy dough because of the house settlement, then we probably should've been going harder at the backup plans. We'll see what happens tomorrow, but if we lose Ojo because Tech or some other team offers him something ridiculous, the mistake wouldn't be not paying for Ojo, the mistake would be not pushing harder on someone like Roseborough or Krempin.

They are just star fucking. They're more interested in "sending a message" than they are actually building a well-rounded class.

Where do you land if A&M made them ridiculous offers? Probably not what Ojo will get, but say double what we value them at?

Honestly, with the way these deals seem to be coming together, it feels a lot like the MLB draft. Might not be the worst idea to have someone with that background thrown into the mix in our scouting department.

I assume they didn't get anywhere near what Ojo is being offered and so they would've been more economical. But if they did, then none of this matters, and the incessant whining on this board was actually warranted.

I’m also looking forward to Sanchez breaking the bust myth around the program.

He's just one guy, so if he is successful, I'd consider that more "exception to the rule" rather than "myth buster"

A 3-man OL class of Turntine, Wright, and Robertson is not good enough for what we’re trying to accomplish here. No shade to those 3 guys. Flipping Lee from a motivated Michigan does not count as a real strategy in my opinion. So what now? Hope for aggy’s class to implode? Cool.

From stuff Bobby and Gerry are saying the staff expects Nick Brooks to be a 2 yr started at LT after this year. Then if they land Turntine I imagine he gets there after unless he plays RT first. Baker has 2 years at RT as well right now. Any HS tackle they bring in after Turntine will likely be a backup for 2 years, minimum. High profile dudes don't want that.

I don't understand the house settlement shit or the desire to regulate pay. You can't regulate pay because any restrictions you put will just be cheated with outside cash payments being arranged. So how about leaving that alone and regulating what you can? Namely eligibility limits and transfer rules. Make it where once a dude signs he only gets 1 free transfer without having to sit, or none at all unless the HC leaves, and it would make more sense to spend big on HS recruits if you know they will have to sit for 1 to 2 years before they'll play.

At most positions anyone we sign now won't see the field much at all for a year at minimum. Sark is in a tough position because you don't want to throw a ton of money at a dude that will just get pissed and transfer out after sitting a year, and with the new rules not being set yet he has no idea what the game will be in 8 months to a year.

He was a 4-year letterman/offensive lineman for Tech and spend two years with the Indianapolis Colts, so he may be willing to throw more than that at Tech athletics.

This is not smart thinking unless we decide we don't need depth and aren't worried about injury. Really, it is more rationalization than anything. We did very well with Banks, etc. when it looked pretty bad in June of that year. Now all those guys will be gone and we need a new super group. Based on our visit lists there is no way that Flood envisioned Turntine, Robertson and Tristan Nickelson Max Wright.

If it's between us and Tech, I'm 100% supportive of holding the line on NIL commitments.  If someone is picking Tech it's because that paycheck represents the goal, not making it to the NFL.

He’s a former Tech letterman. Sold his O&G company a couple times to become a billionaire. Almost certainly putting superdeal number 3 together right now. Constantly bitches about Tech not getting a bigger piece of the PUF. Conveniently ignores UTPB is in the middle of the oil patch while Tech is in some fringe enhanced recovery plays 140 miles to north of University Lands.

He’s a hell of a salesman. No argument there.

Five months until NSD...probably should go back to the football board, you don't have the stomach for this area of the site.

Different Double Eagle guy.

I have wild respect for those guys. Literally what every fan of a school wants, couple of billionaires who are going out of their way to make their school a player on the national stage.

Will it work? Naw. They are still TTU. Lol

But those guys are going to spend what? A hundred million over a decade on TTU NIL and the athletic program

Is any other single person / independent group in Texas singlehandedly spending close to that much on NIL across the board?

So, you really don’t have to really recruit anymore….let Texas do the wining and dining with some of the top recruits for a couple of years, and a few days before commitment day, just whip out your wallet and offer a bundle.   Time out.

Depends on the recruit, same as it ever was. Turntine got offered plenty bigger bags. And we whipped Oregon for Wesley.

I don’t think losing Ojo is that big of a deal. Landing him would have been good for the optics but I would have had him on bust watch.

In regards to the “NIL” situation I think it is wishful thinking that mismanagement of funds will catch up to these schools at some point. I’ll believe it when it actually realizes itself. Regardless it’s July and Sark normally figures this shit out by December.

Is it normal for 5 stars to have bad technique, poor strength, and to be regularly dominated by high level competition?

I was kind of thinking the same thing as you and several others on this issue. I wonder if Tech is also promising him lots of early playing time. That would be an... interesting decision

Fong just flipped his pick to Tech for Ojo

”Beyond the belief in the program, Pete Nakos and Steve Wiltfong are hearing an exciting NIL package has been extended that would make Ojo among the highest paid in the 2026 class.”

Well, saw how they bought championships with Nija Canady, sooo... good luck to Ojo and Tech, I guess. Have fun developing by playing against the nation's best in... the Big XII

Edit: I'm also happy to see very few people actually freaking out about this - you really shouldn't. I understand the Ojo thing was kind of expected but still. I expected more people to lose their shit. Does anyone out there really, genuinely think we have a lower budget, House settlement and NIL, than Michigan, tOSU, TAMU, and freaking Tech? We just got a kid that Oregon considered a "must have."

I really think that, due to NIL and House shit, there will be more flips than ever this recruiting season as players are re-assessed during additional evals and senior seasons and offers are "amended." I also think that we're keeping a significant portion of our powder dry for guys we feel that we cannot afford to lose. Ojo, who has now received about 18 comparisons to Javonne Shepherd, clearly does not fit in that category. Go get that bag, young man - I don't blame you one bit. Maybe we circle back for Lamar Brown, Xavier Griffin, and/or Jalen Lott (though I doubt it for all of them except maybe Griffin, tbh). Remember when Tech tried to outbid us for Quinn Ewers and we dragged our sweaty, unwashed balls over their face?

But there will be flips and huge momentum shifts. Big ones.  Just ask Jonah Williams, Justus Terry, Kade Phillips, and Josiah Sharma. And some guy named Xavier Worthy
