Idc that he picked tech.  It’s lying to our coaches and players they recruits that’s fucked up

Seems like the staff should have seen this one coming. Shady camp. Super raw. 2nd team all district. Yaps on twitter. Didn’t seem like a good fit from the beginning… ranking be damned.

but that’s just me being captain hind sight. Dude seemed like a fox in the hen house in terms culture we have built

When Fasusi went to OU last year we all were mostly okay with it because of a 2026 OL we wanted and that OL wasn’t Felix Ojo.

Pumped to have Turntine in the class. Checks a lot boxes on and off the field.

The reasonable take.

It was said for some time Texas wouldn’t get both Turntine and Ojo. Would you rather have the player who acted like a punk or the one who has a better reputation. Now Sark has to go get another, or flip Lee or Krempin or Rosenrosen.

Well, saw how they almost bought championships with Nija Canady, sooo

Clarification to add: the only thing they bought was a big 12 championship. National championship still came home to Texas.

Not sunshine pumping here, but the 995ers have been saying to keep an eye on Lee later on down the line for a potential flip. That or circle back to other options. Not worried, more just pissed the kid was straight lying to the staff.

Tech just gave a high-schooler a 2nd-round draft pick deal. That is insane.

I assume this means more money available for Lee or other positions so that's cool.

I look at it like this - we may have lost a recruit, but we gained a villain.

How much fun was it saying "fuck the brocks" and then watching them such shit through a straw at Bama? The answer? A FUCK TON of fun.

Now we get to do that with Ojo, but instead of sucking at a real program like Bama, he went to fucking Texas Tech! Hilarious!

I personally like this approach better

Ojo's number being that ridiculous is probably a good sign for those that were worried. House settlement or not, Texas was not going to pay 5+ million dollars for Ojo, that is an irresponsible use of funds.

Take the money, yes. God bless.  As a condition of the money, lie to the other schools recruiting you earnestly so they are incorrect in their standing with you and how they should proceed at the position- that doesn’t say much about your character.   And people remember things like that down the road.

Five million for any non QB player is wild.

Five million for THAT non QB player is even more insane.

Irresponsible is the right term.

Ojo gonna be buying his QB's and RB's steak dinners and watches instead of the other way around.  too funny.

Tech is desperate.  would have loved to have him but not for that kind of scratch...

Posting that number publicly is a recipe for some bad feelings in the locker room.

Yep, I promise you existing Tech OL are texting each other, “u see that shit?”

Funny thing is, Ojo is skinny as fuck, too. I assumed he was a much bigger guy than Turntine, and that was why he was shooting past him on the 9.95 er rankings, but it’s probably wingspan/height, not bulk. I suspect it will be a couple years before he adds adequate weight, but with this ridiculous contract, will Tech be willing to wait that long?  Oh yeah, don’t give a fuck. Really stupid offer.

He’s a tackle.  Gerry is adamant about it.  He has seen Turntine numerous times for years and is a much better evaluator than the guys running the recruiting services.  He’s said he has tackle wing span and may be the most athletic lineman in the last two OL classes.  He’s also ranked in the top 10 in his high school class academically and has tremendous work ethic.  He’s said multiple times that Turntine has been at the top of the Texas board for years.  Flood has been recruiting him for 3 or so years as a tackle.  He will probably be the most ready tackle prospect from a technique and feet standpoint since Banks.  He simply has to put on about 30 pounds.  That is probably the only thing holding him back.  Gerry said he is already squatting a ridiculous amount at his current weight.

Yeah he said this morning he expects Turntine to play OT here above 300 lbs. and squatting 700 lbs.

You don't think Ojo isn't going to take some serious shit if and when he gets his ass worn out in practice by an older, bigger, stronger, defensive lineman.

Have no idea about Ojo's background, but Turntine is by all reports a very good kid, grounded, and been raised to know you get what you work for in the game and life.

There are better dudes in the portal - just find a stud group of 5 OT in the mold of Matthew Golden or Trey Moore. I rmr a few years ago we got Calvin Anderson and he was plug and play.

OTs are not very common and are very expensive in the Portal. That's a premium position.

I like Gerry, but he also said Cam Williams would be a 1st rounder. Turntine definitely has the athleticism, but there's nothing simple about adding 30lbs while still maintaining his explosiveness. I'm glad we got him though. We'll see how he develops.

To Gerry’s defense Willliams very well could’ve been a first rounder (probably high) if he stayed and started at least two years

Anderson wasn’t what I would say good/great though, he made it work and made himself money in the NFL.  I hope we’re pass the stages of having to settle and start players of that level

We apparently really like Nick Brooks, and get at least three years of him. Probably one more from Goosby, and three from Baker. Turntine plus one more in this class and we're doing really well at OT (obviously we have more bodies there like Coleman and Cojoe). I don't see that as a portal need, barring something weird.

Happy we landed Turntine. High upside dude.

Imagine the outrage here if we were the ones who gave Ojo that stupid ass $5.1M deal.

I think the amount of outrage could easily be exaggerated.

Most people find it remarkably easy to spend someone else's money.

The outrage would've been from other teams/fans. "Texas is ruining college football!!11". People care a lot less when its an irrelevant Texas Tech program.

My only beef is, teams like A&M ar going to turn this like “Texas didn’t have you as prized as we did” and that could hurt us with the flips down the line and either make us pay more or may not happen.

Lee may be easier because we a actually really wanted him and told him he was high on our board

Fire the agent? What? I want to hire that guy and see what he can get me in the open market. He must be some sort of wizard or warlock or some shit.

Wow. I didn’t realize it was that bad. Texas probably stays aggressive on Utu if they’d have had better clarity.

Still, like Mack with Perrilloux, signs of seriously bad character and playing Texas for leverage were there all along.

What could go wrong….all that glitters….?

I don’t follow the daily ups and downs that closely, but Ojo stating publicly a few months ago that he was Texas’s priority OT/OL in this class, given how long the staff had been on Turntine, was off-putting at the time and made me lukewarm on him (that was the first time I’d heard his name).

Give me the guy that didn’t feel any need to respond to Ojo’s statement, who is a better actual player, and who was choosing between Texas, Michigan and Stanford (probably the top three I’d encourage my kid to consider) every day of the week. That’s an easy pick.

And yeah, I get that people are more annoyed that his bullshit may have cost the program other guys than they are about not getting him specifically. But I’m also not worried that Sark/Flood/Texas will figure it out.

Justin Wells just posted on IT that Carlton is probably gone too. Tech overpaying again.

Again, I can’t even imagine sweating the edge position at Texas right now. Let tech have Carlton too. Pump their chests.
