That’s another thing- he’s from Florida and playing at IMG and none of the big 3 Florida schools are willing to offer him enough to be considered?  Unless the kid has made statements about wanting to leave Florida for school, that seems like a big red flag.

Comically relevant to the Kreul discussion with OU.

They've been recruiting WR Davion Groce for this entire cycle. They've been up against Baylor and, to a lesser extent, UF the whole time. Groce's camp recently indicated in the last month that they were likely picking OU over Baylor, despite BU putting a good offer together. The player announces tonight and OU has considered him in the bag for a while.

Update today is that Florida has come in off of the top ropes with a big time offer. Groce's camp has allegedly given OU this afternoon to match or beat.

Remember that part about OU coming in with something crazy for Kreul? Well, that was done when they thought they had Groce locked up at a different number. I'm guessing they're going to have to pass on one or the other. If they pony up for both, I assume that is going to lead to some serious retention issues with the portal if they're not prepared to pony up around the table for experience already on the roster at Edge and WR.

Watching OU get put in Sophie's choice after Sophie's choice is only going to get more entertaining.

lso, something I hadn't really thought through until now is that Nagy is going to cram this guy down Venables' throat.

OU coaches like things being crammed down their throats.

KJ Edwards to visit Texas (and LSU).

Elite Texas A&M commit eyeing fall visits to Texas, LSU

Hank South (Horns 247)

One of Texas' misses on the recruiting trail this summer was KJ Edwards committing to Texas A&M over the Longhorns back in June. It wasn't that the Aggies came out of nowhere to land Edwards (he had visited College Station plenty), but that the four-star running back from Carthage cancelled his official visit to the Forty Acres all together.

In the months since, Texas was able to surge ahead for a talented South Florida ball carrier in Derrek Cooper, securing his pledge on July 20. But even Cooper is still entertaining options and is set to visit Miami — the one-time favorite — for the Hurricanes' season opener against Notre Dame.

Edwards is eyeing some more fall visits himself.

"I told my son we committed, but at the same time I want him to make the most out of this process because once you sign there's no going back," Edwards' father, Mon, told Horns247. "Like I told him we haven't been to an LSU night game. We gotta get that on the schedule with them. I said are you going to Texas for a game, I asked him yesterday, and he said yeah dad I still want to go. My whole thing — and I know they got the other running back committed, but we don't really focus on none of that — with him is if we need to go make some more games, I want to make sure when that time comes that you really feel like you made the best decision considering everything.

"I actually talked to him this morning, it's a few games that Texas has that we're going to see about going. I'm fixing to have to do it all over again with his brother. But it's just to make sure he feels like where he's going is the best spot for him. He'll be gone after December, he'll be enrolling in January. It's just making sure as a parent I'm putting him in the best position to succeed. I don't know exactly what games because we just talked about it when he got out of practice but he did say he planned on going back down there (to Austin) a few times this fall."

Still, Edwards' father says they are happy with Texas A&M and the decision that was made. The Aggies' staff made Edwards a major priority and it resonated so much so that it prompted Edwards to forgo committing on his expected Aug. 2 date, to simply announcing in mid-June.

Edwards is ranked the No. 2 running back and the No. 48 overall player in the country, per 247Sports.

He might still end up in College Station, but that's a kid that currently regrets his decision.

This recruitment could be fascinating. Both schools passed on approaching ATM’s offer. He’s not supposed to be even talking to other schools as part of how they allegedly structure those moneywhip deals.

If I were betting on outcomes here, my money would be on ATM going bonkers on him right now and him coming out with a “shutting it down” tweet within the next 48 hours.  If not, awesome.

After Texas flips Henderson, LSU can always go nuts with a counter offer to Edwards as well.

Hell yeah, that's what I love to hear.

And, if yes, also awesome.

“he did say he planned on going back down there (to Austin) a few times this fall."

If it wasn’t obvious enough before, this makes it pretty clear where he actually wants to be.

If Cooper starts getting shaky, Edwards is going to be a pretty damn good flip candidate.

They have different skill sets. We’d take both.

Hell yeah take as many talented players as possible. Considering the RB room specifically, last year alone showed how fast a deep bench can dwindle.

Also, I was listening to an On3 podcast, hosted by Andy & Ari.  They mentioned Dia Bell decommit rumors.  Has anyone heard about those and did they just come out after Arch's grandfather made the comment about returning next year?

If you want to post stuff like this, more context on what they actually said would be appreciated

Bell has done an interview and mentioned sitting behind Arch for a year, so he (like everyone else around Texas) already knew he was returning before Archie’s comment

You think Texas hasn't had these conversations with Bell before Archie spoke to that reporter? This isn't a surprise, just like it wasn't a surprise when Arch committed to sitting for 2 years behind Ewers.

I have no idea how plugged in Andy Staples and Ari Wasserman are.  They used phrases like "not trying to create drama" but there's "decommit smoke in the atmosphere", "stuff we've heard in the recruiting grapevine that's real".  They do finish the segment saying that the succession plan of sitting behind Arch for a year makes a lot of sense.

I think what you should do in this situation is stop listening to and reading content from that fat sloppy pig Ari Wasserman.

Just showing up and asking questions without even trying to verify on your own first is very TexAggy. Not saying you're an Aggie or a troll, but that's the level where those two posts are.

I’m definitely not an Aggie or a troll. I don’t have any subscriptions to the recruiting websites and I check twitter about once a month, so I would have no methods of verifying info. Just passing along something I heard.

You might not be an aggy troll, but Wasserman is an Ohio State ball garbler that’s married to an aggy and considers Liucci a fair and balanced source of information on Texas recruiting. If you aren’t an aggy troll, you’re certainly amplifying one.

BEGINNING OF AUGUST

Regarding Arch staying on at Texas, which scenario would most payers prefer:

Scenario A (Arch leaves in 2026):  As a 1st-year player in 2026, without any direct experience in Sark's system, trying to beat out a 3rd year Trey and a 2nd year KJ Lacey;  or even more difficult, trying to beat out an incumbent in 2027

Scenario B (Arch leaves in 2027): Sit behind Arch and learn Sark's system in 2026, and then as a 2nd year guy, win an open competition vs 4th/3rd year Trey/Lacey (and one of them may have left by then)

(Btw, I too think Arch stays; just spelling out the scenarios.)

This is like a push poll. Or like, "is Derek Cooper going to prison?"

I'm not on a jihad. I won't post anymore about this. It's just an observation.

I remember exactly where I was when I overheard someone say Vince was leaving. Big man's area of Dillards. Looking at a belt.

Anguish.

Scenario C. Nobody knows shit about fuck since nothing has played out and a lot may change as the season progresses. Arch can’t speak for his grandson about anything until after this season, and this is all a distraction. Win a championship or play for one, and then let’s see what decisions are made.

edit: Not dissing anybody, its dullsville till kickoff.

Starting as a true freshman is also a real bad idea for quarterbacks 99% of the time.

QBs need to approach this different than other positions.  Not that they all don't need development, but a second QB contract at the next level can be generational wealth.  It would be incredibly short sighted to chase an extra million now that cost you multiple millions in development later.

Seems smart with Cooper’s latest comments re: taking visits to Miami. Are there legit concerns there with Miami getting him to flip? Sorry in advance if it was already discussed up thread.
