Dems need some moderate candidates to run in moderate districts. But "moderate" doesn't mean Republican-lite candidates that run against the Democratic party.  Find some people that embrace universal values and know that the path to winning is attacking Republicans for being weird freaks who hate the American people, not explaining why they're a nicer Republican and nothing like the rest of those horrible Dems.

Amen.

Definite miss on the opportunity to coin the term Michigangster. But understandable for an elected official.

Yeah, I was expecting this gif to be included in the tweet ...

damn-it-feels-good-to-be-a-gangsta-gif-2

Or maybe the Office Space version.

Did I completely misread his post, or wasn't he clearly mocking how privileged white women would look down their nose at poorer women (often of color) who need abortions as "loose sloots", pointing out how said privileged women are full of shit, since they know that they themselves (or their daughters) could easily take a weekend trip to wherever to get an abortion if they ever actually needed it? He's saying "this is what privileged white women call other women." He's not calling women sluts.

And MRS degrees - again, isn't he mocking the privilege of the many, many, many women who openly brag about that being their goal?

Yes that was my point, and yes, I have a bit of a personal beef with white suburban women based on my upbringing. My family moved from heavily Hispanic South Texas to a Tulsa suburb when I was 12 and the shit I took from people sticks with me today, especially the white ladies at the Catholic Church, and even worse from the protestants and plain old racists. Back then at least it was a little more subtle (except when they caught us speaking Spanish which pissed them off to no end) whereas today its much more blatant. Not sure I could have survive it in todays atmosphere. And to be clear, the men were just as bad, if not worse, but women were being discussed vis-a-vis Roe.

Maybe I'm just jaded that Oklahoma has gone full shitheel and women in this state overwhelmingly support assholes. If it helped in those states, great, whatever it takes.

Ah yes, sorry. I forgot men aren't allowed to comment based on observations, data, and statistics. I'll just mosey on off to an incel board since I'm such a fucking misogynist. I assume you've made no observations or comments whatsoever on Black and Latinx voting trends?

When you've dug yourself into a hole, generally it's best to stop digging.

Making observations about trends doesn’t include using bullshittery like calling women sluts and MRS degrees and all the other garbage you just spewed.

Be sure to use terms like “wetback” and the Nword when you get around to regaling us about Hispanic and Black voters.

So, Beto?

That didn't work out so well for us here.

Hey, hey, hey.   I was perfectly happy getting a MR degree.   But things changed.

But seriously, those of us on the blue side need to have a conversation on 2024 and the weaknesses on display in 2022.

As for strengths, the young ones are engaged and appear to be ready to vote for their future.

And, as a progressive, we need to applaud the Biden Administration for laying the groundwork for the reality of our post-neoliberal (globalized) world. Covid showed us these far flung supply chains are unstable and not resilient. Biden’s move to a more regionalized world is a huge step in the right direction.  That is just reality.  So kudos to President Biden on recognizing these change and acting on it. (If you need a primer to catch up on the state of the world economy, I highly recommend Homecoming: The Path to Prosperity in a Post-Global World by Rana Foroohar of the Financial Times.)

This shift was at the heart of the Fetterman enthusiasm pre-stroke. Having an industrial policy that champions our innovative spirit and our workforce is the path forward for the nation. Those of us on the blue side need leaders who speak to the opportunity for a renaissance of local and regional supply chains.

I am happy there was no dismal red tide, but there is a need for improvement on the blue side before 2024.

Nebraska  just passed a $15 minimum wage to go into effect in 2026 with inflation riders attached with 58% of the vote.

Arizona just capped medical debt at a 3% interest rate with 72% of the vote.

South Dakota just expanded Medicaid with 56% of the vote

Run on popular shit that people care about and you’ll put together a huge ass coalition from east to west and north to south.

I read the texags election thread and they are disappointed as fuck.  The tears are delicious.

Imagine all the fresh, clean memes they had queued up. Now they are going to go to waste, and the poor Russian that made them is probably going to get blown up by a drone while taking a shit in the Ukrainian woods somewhere. Sad.

I agree Dems should run on popular shit, but support for candidates that propose the popular shit isn't nearly as high as it is for popular shit when put up for a vote untethered to a party or candidate.  It's stupid, but that's just how it works.

i'll say this, pertinent to discussion in this thread...

as a middle-aged, middle class, suburban/urban white woman...nobody judges and hates on women more than other women. black, white, hispanic, asian... doesn't matter.

how that plays out in politics may vary and include other factors, but it's a universal truth.

Since Nevada is now firmly a swing state, can they find a better way to count votes? What a beating waiting forever to see who wins those races.

The same thing happened in 2020 and someone tweeted, "OK, Vegas usually you hang around after we don't need you but this time, no."  Or something like that.

In very local news, I'm happy with these results:

Quote

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- The Bend City Council had a big night on Tuesday, as midterm elections resulted in a new mayor-elect and two new city councilors.

As of midday Wednesday, Councilor Melanie Kebler holds a 10-point lead over Chris Piper in the race fr mayor. Barb Campbell was strongly leading the race for a two-year council seat, while newcomers Ariel Mendez and Mike Riley will be new city councilors, come January.

Everyone knows the local is where you make the most impact.  And the R's were gunning hard for the Mayor and City Council.    But espcially the Mayor position.  Got sponsored by a PAC led by a giant home developer and the writing on the wall was pretty bad if dude won.  Whole council went a bit more progressive and Melanie is a smart good person so yay.
