How many of those wins were followed by a trophy presentation?

No doubt.  Just saying that despite failing at winning hardware, we're not an abject failure of a franchise that only cares about $$.  They care about winning.  A lot.  And most of the Jerry the GM hubris these days is just that...hubris.  He makes very few if any personnel decisions, and hasn't for a while.  He's there to formally offer the contracts after they've already been agreed upon.  Will McClay does the rest, and Stephen crunches the cap aspects.

It's still frustrating, but "Jerruh only cares about $$" is aggy level dumb.

Agree, Jerry wants to win and is sincerely trying, but it has to be with him as GM because of his ego. Yeah, one can argue that if he really cared about winning he'd hire a GM, but that's not how his brain works. He is trying desperately to win on his terms. We've had teams that are good enough but keep failing in the playoffs. I blame the coaches that Jerry hires (essentially yes men that won't take away too much credit from him) rather than the players.

HE also refuses to do what the Rams did...go all in for 1 title and risk having several to many down years down the road to do it.  He'd rather draft well and replenish while maintaining a path to the playoffs (Showing that the Tuna still has a huge effect on his plans) because "if you make the tournament, you never know what can happen."

It just hasn't all been put together for one reason or another, and there have been several teams fully capable of winning it.   ('07, '14, '16 for sure along with a few others that had outside shots).

Also, the NFL playoffs are rarely very random in the playoffs. Yes, there are outlier years but normally, the very good teams make it far while the lesser tier teams get bounced. Dallas is rarely a top tier team. This looks to be another year we will have to win 3 straight road games to get to the Super Bowl. Very unlikely that happens. If playoffs started today, we'd go on the road to SF. Anyone really think we win that? This whole team turns soft when we play them. They own us the last 3 seasons.

If he really wanted to win he would hire a coach that he doesn’t control. He’d hire a GM and let the GM hire the coach. He’d sit back and count his money and collect trophies. But he can’t do that, so instead he just sits back and counts his money, which I could not give one single fuck about.

This is why he sucks as an owner. He knows exactly what is needed to win as the formula you described, is what brought him his only success. But his ego got in the way and he no longer wanted to do that any longer. And still hasn't almost 30 years later.

Fuck Jerry.

The 90s Cowboys foundation was built before free agency and salary cap.  Jerry needs to hire a GM for sure, but the only formula collecting trophies right now is the Chiefs.

While this is true, the ownership of KC signs checks and collects trophies. They may have struck gold with Mahomes, but you really only see the Hunts when they are collecting AFC and Super Bowl Championship trophies. I’d like to see some more of the Hunt’s granddaughter though.

KC hit on a great QB that would have a HOF if it ended today. This will always give you a huge inside track to get to the Super Bowl. And will be consistently good. Couple that with a real good coaching staff for Mahomes in Andy Reid. They got rid of their speedy playmaker in Tyreek Hill, added middle of the road guys to replace him and still won it all. Still have Kelce who opens up the field and is a mismatch for all defenses. They don't invest any in RBs like Dallas does.

Another route to go is the Eagles. Take advantage of your QB's rookie contract being very active on the trade and free agency market. Have a GM who knows how to construct a roster. Something Dallas doesn't have. While we traded away Cooper for nothing, Philly went out and traded for AJ Brown, easily a top 5 WR. We have Ceedee Lamb but not a lot else WR wise. Went out and got Swift from Detroit. Built one of the best OL's in football. They constantly hit on their moves while Dallas doesn't.

There is a reason why Dallas is stuck in the forever cycle of mediocrity. We have real good teams once every 10 years and like clockwork, we waste them.

December 30, 1923 (according to Jerry just now), Jimmy Johnson will inducted into the Ring of Honor.

No fan of Jerrah and probably never will be, but over the moon that Jimmy is finally gonna get his name on the Ring. Way, way, WAY overdue.

Hope as many from those mid-90s teams as possible will be present. Might get a little dusty.

Apparently, they decided on the 30th because it's the last home game and someone said Aikman will be covering the game.  Definitely dusty.

As mostly soulless and corporate as it is now, growing up watching the Cowboys on Thanksgiving Day with parents, aunts, uncles and cousins was special. Whether it was TDay or not, rooting as much against the Redskins as for the Cowboys is a great primary memory. Here's to destroying that shitty franchise today.

I mean, they are tied for 8th in wins over the last 30 years of "lost in the desert".

so barely in Top quartile in regular season wins? LOLz.

Now do playoff wins in the last 28 years.

I don't think we sign him.  We generally get outbid for guys like this and he's definitely lost a step but does he have enough juice left for 8-9 games?  We're deathly thin at LB.  Leonard has generally relied on speed so for a guy who's lost a step, it's a bigger deal.  If he's cheap (like minimum with playing time bonuses), then I'd host him tomorrow.  But again, don't think he ends up here.  We desperately need another LB, CB and DT.

Damn slorch who pissed in your pumpkin pie this morning?

8th out of 32 teams in regular season wins should placate us as fans over most of 3 decades?

That pie is nothing but shit, but some are claiming it is good ole pumpkin.

The Cowboys have not met my expectations.  I don't think they have met most reasonable fans' expectations.

My 30 YO son was 2 when the Pokes won SB 30.  My youngest son( 25) has never witnessed a Cowboys  conference championship game, much less a SB for our heroes.  Are you suggesting that is a satisfactory run?

Fuck you Jerry.  Fuck you Stephen.  Both of y'all suck ass.

Dallas Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy will have surgery Wednesday -- five days before the biggest game of the regular season against the Philadelphia Eagles -- after being diagnosed with an acute case of appendicitis, the team said.

McCarthy experienced abdominal pain Wednesday morning before seeing the team's medical staff. He is expected to be released from the hospital later Wednesday and anticipates coaching Sunday.

Are they sure its not just a TV remote or two lodged in a belly fold?

He'll be there even if they have to put him in one of those Hannibal Lecter dollies. He knows if he misses this game and Quinn goes out and beats the Eagles there will be calls to replace him with Quinn.

Especially if the time clock and timeouts are involved in the outcome.

He's a better OC than Moore at least.

You mean you didn't like that 6 point effort against the vaunted NE defense from the Chargers last week?

Kellen can't call an offense if even one critical piece is missing. That's what i always noticed as a difference between he and Dan Quinn. On DQ's side of the ball, guys get banged up, guys miss some time, and he is able to plug someone else in that gets the job done and the defense doesn't just fall off. Diggs gets hurt this year, of course it's a big deal, but he coaches up Bland and the other guys and they go and get it done for us. Whereas with Kellen, our offense was always one injury away from being a shell of itself.

Look at the playoff game last year. Offense was doing well, Pollard gets hurt, and we can't overcome it. We sputtered for the rest of the game.

Any doctor folks here? Is that operation now done laparoscopically or did they open him up?

Also what’s his pain level likely to be? Could he call the game from the booth; maybe running the game while on OxyContin will be an improvement.

calling doctor of neighborhood!
