Who is the conservative protest vote?  Rfk if he’s on the ballot in that state?  Libertarian?

Probably the Libertarian.

Maybe like 3k or so?

CCM won by .8% and that was 8k votes.

All I know is 2 of the best prognosticators - Ralston and Selzer - see Harris winning / doing well, so why all the dooming??

And even when Selzer was wrong with POTUS races (she called Iowa in 2004 for Kerry +3) Bush only won by 10K votes, or 0.7%. She's not infallible but if she's say that Harris is winning Iowa, it doesn't bode well for Trump across the board. He easily won 2016 (+10) and 2020 (+8.)  If it's close, I can't imagine what is happening in other states as well.

And if by chance Harris wins Iowa or another missed swing state, it throws many of the predictions up in the air. Even PA isn't as important.

I think the military should mount a couple of massive machine gun turrets on the sides of the capitol, the White House, and the VP residence. And they should then put a few target practice dummies out there and absolutely unload on them. Spread that widely on social media. Insurrection mobilization neutralized.

They should’ve fired early and often on all of those lowlifes as soon as they broke the first barricade on January 6. We should have no quarter and tolerance for insurrection.

Agree 100% except firing live rounds.  Might as well do it now while Biden is still Potus.  Word will get out.

Yeah, everything's a re-hash. I only read that last 2 pages

And yeah, I can vouch for DC being more prepared. You don't want to instigate things because then the fucks have a cause.

The one thing I think people forget about Iowa is it has always had a bit of a different culture to the rest of the area. They had the whole prairie socialism thing and have had an independent streak. Overall conservative, but unique in some ways.

Reynolds' attack on public education has been hugely unpopular.  My quasi-MAGA FIL told me this winter there's no way in hell he's voting for her in '26.

That pissed people off more than the child labor stuff.  Especially in the rural areas (where strong public education is a bipartisan value among citizens).

Also they are very civic minded and engaged. Likely from being first in the nation every 4 years

Also, you have a democrat in the WH and as Governor of Maryland. There will be no shortage of National Gaurd this time around if needed.

another point about Iowa is that Jill Stein is not on the ballot. One less opportunity for someone to throw away their vote as a protest. There is the normal Libertarian candidate so the protest vote isn't entirely zero.

EDIT: Apparently RFK Jr. is on the Iowa ballot. so there's that. The good news is that any vote for him looks to be one less vote for trump.

Sounds like KS, and even some people in Oklahoma are angry about the attack on public education.

This is historically true, and a factor in why I chose to never leave.  I was/am extremely proud of that.

The last decade has seen us join the rest of the states between the Rockies and Mississippi politically and it was hard not to see that as a permanent shift.  I really hope there's some of that old Iowan political weirdness kicking around.

We're all counting on you.

I will say that Ralston's analysis is basically "too close to call but tie goes to Dems in Nevada". I think it's a shoulder shrug masked as a prediction, but I'll take it.

I'd assume the NE corner of Iowa is probably a big factor in that with the combination of what was big Union presence historically with packing and farm equipment makers plus it seemed like a lot of Irish Catholics too.

Local Maga precinct chair just knocked on my door. Had a golf cart with all the goofy flags including Vets for Trump.

Told him I already voted; he then asked if I voted cruz and Trump.

"Absolutely not, no way, Jan 6.  Thanks for your service."

He looked incredulous. You are white and didn't vote for Trump

Had a big ass Doberman with him so I only spoke through the speakeasy.

Never had a door knock before in 15 years of living here.

Be careful. Your house has been marked now.

Not enough to move the needle because rural (and most suburban) Oklahomans are the dumbest Americans to ever live, at least since we were using leaches on people to cure disease.

Do we need 3 threads? I assume everything will be posted in here too

That is actually super adorable.  Kids need to be exposed to voting early so it becomes instilled as something you do and you're proud to do.

My 6 month old daugher got a "I voted" sticker last Monday when we did our early voting!

I know.

Most of the people I still talk to are in the sticks. But even they want to a have school 5 days a weeks (eg, Konowa) so they can work and not have to worry about day care.

And the leeching clinic in Holdenville is top notch.

I know I'm wishcasting but...

I don't know any typical Democrats are who are so turned off by Harris that they would consider voting for Trump, but I know several typical Republicans (myself included) who are repulsed by Trump to the point of either not voting, or even voting for Harris.  Multiply that by thousands and let's see how things turn out.

Just my personal anecdote from N. Dallas burbs.

Same, but E. Dallas burbs, holla!!

This thread is essentially the off-season thread where was 1 of them is the official called thread and the other is the gameday thread?

By this rational do we need gameday threads for games and season threads?
