Can anyone name one good reason that Biden should be the nominee at this point, especially if they downplayed Parkinson's or some other medical condition?  As an actual voter in the primary, that would piss me off.  I didn't have the chance to vote in a primary with multiple candidates because he lied about whatever was going on.

To add to this, can anyone paint me a picture of the hypothetical voter that's an absolute Biden lock today, July 9th, that won't vote for another Democrat if they emerge as the nominee by November 5th? I don't need polls or numbers; someone just give me an anecdote of one single person* that they think might fit that description.

This is actually the best point. I don’t even think members of his own campaign would hold their vote if it was someone else.

I realize this isn’t helping things for our collective psyche , but I’ve had two professional calls TODAY with clients where we are discussing the Biden administration in past tense. Like lame duck past tense. And not with wingnuts.

I’m not the only person. This is occurring all over town.

By past tense you mean he's done immediately or he'll play out the game and lose in November?

There is literally zero downside to dumping him.  The only downside is you hurt the feelings of the Biden family.

Not great when the guy who conducted the interview that was supposed to save the campaign is telling strangers on the street that you can't last 4 more years.

Right now the majority of us are faced with a Hobson's Choice in this election.

Too soon to have the Kamala/Gretch/Newsom discussion.

I thought Hobson chose to encourage Arthur to vote for Linda Marolla out of love instead of the safe choice, Susan Johnson.

Dammit, I'm going to take a bath.  At least we'll carry Rhode Island.

There's a pretty big downside to dumping him if he doesn't want to go.

It should probably be on every page of this thread, that the people who don't follow politics at all, favor Trump by +25. And that's a lot of people.

If they actually didn’t follow politics, it should be more of a coin flip than that.

Out in the open intra-party fighting. He and his supporters will not go quietly. And then you have the jockeying to be his successor.

It will be a complete cluster fuck and wonderfully entertaining. But also sad and scary.

He has to be willing to go for this to not become a complete cluster fuck. Instead, he's going to be stubborn, like an old person, and not listen to everyone telling him that he's no longer up to the task. Anyone who has dealt with an elderly relative knows how those conversations tend to go. We can only hope the sense of resignation hits him before it's all too late. It would've been better for everyone if this happened at the State of the Union instead of all us seeing it as Fool's Gold.

Everyone in the Executive Branch needs to be looking at how best to foil what Trump plans to do when he's elected. Put as many roadblocks as you can right now if it's an option. We better pray the Democrats keep the Senate and gain some seats in the House. That's our only path to keeping this country from slipping away.

I don’t think there are any Biden supporters.  There’s nobody out there who is staying home or switching their vote to Trump if Biden drops out.  Certainly there are voters who could get affected depending on who the replacement is, and whoever replaced Biden on the ticket could have an impact on turnout of the other side.  So making a change is not without risk.  But I think the main thing driving the movement to support him is politicians not wanting to set the precedent of replacing people when they show signs of decline and potentially circumventing the electoral process.  To me that’s all bullshit.  The dude is decrepit.  Fucking replace him with the person who can garner the most support over the next couple of months and beat Trump.  Because at this point Biden has no chance of beating Trump and even if he does, he’s his own national security risk as long as he’s in office.

It's not just that he's old. He's also the President of the United States, so he enjoys all of the power and privileges that come with the office. Moreover, it's not everyone telling him he's no longer up to the task. Plenty of people in his circle are telling him just the opposite and encouraging him to stay in the race.

If so, picture DC as King's Landing after Robert Barratheon dies, and all the various factions within the Democratic Party as the different houses vying for the throne. Now picture Trump as the Night King and MAGA as the white walkers.

You have that now and he has no real supporters.

He has the support of leadership and progressives. Only a handful of Democrats are on record that he should drop out.

And while his inner circle certainly includes, Hunter, it's much larger than that and probably includes most of the WH staff.

Even if you say the Presidency is likely lost at this point with Biden or a replacement I wonder how it would impact the House and Senate- Biden vs no Biden.

Dem leadership (lol) seems to think Biden should stay in even after looking at the terrible poll numbers lately. Weird.

Someone should convince Taylor Swift to run.  That'll run up the democratic GOTV numbers for the group that never votes.  Swift fills the any human with a pulse criteria for all the people that were already going to vote for Biden tomorrow.

Obviously the clock is ticking, but it's good to see the pressure on Biden will not go away. He will not win people over or silence the critics with future public appearances. The polls continue to get worse. There is no way to undo the belief from the majority of voters that he's old and fragile. If there are no upticks in the next couple of weeks, Joe can still bow out on "his terms" or whatever makes him feel better.

As much as he loves power, legacy matters more to Biden. He just has to be convinced he can't win.

This is the image that comes to mind for me with the Democrats succession problem (and no, I’m not comparing Biden to Stalin as any kind of moral equivalent):

A lot of the state level polls say that.  They have Biden losing but the Dem Senate candidate winning, easily in some cases.

I also think these polls are shit and they have been for some time.  The Republicans have won all of the polls the last two years but lost all of the actual elections.  Dobbs is the primary reason.  Yet they cling to polls like Aggy to football recruiting.

What a dumbass. A middling no-name senator fucks up and says some stupid shit in a closed door setting and then goes on TV trying to fix and then and says some more stupid shit. I'm often amazed how someone with such incompetence becomes a US senator.

My condolences to the smart and decent houstonians who are still without power.

as for the trump voting, MAGA, TEXAS GRID RULES, idiot crowd. Fuck you. How’s your grid doing now? Beryl was a lowly category 1. How would Houston handle a direct hit from a much more severe storm?   The thought of you guys doing without power for a lengthy amount of time brings a massive smile to my face.

texas needs to join one of the power grids in the US.
