I don’t know, she knows she’s gonna get the nod in 2028.

Yeah, I think she's banking on "I was the only Republican to speak out against Trump" finally being a good thing with voters in 2028. We'll see.

I don't know about that.  The MAGA nation likely will still be going strong even if Trump is long dead and gone by 2028, and the Republican hopefuls still have to grovel to that base.

BMDs will be tired of losing. Hell, they are already tired.

I think this election is it. If we get out of this one alive, I think the movement will splinter back into their hole. The right won't get any smarter, they won't change who they are, but they'll fracture, there will be lower turnout, and they'll alter their tactics. They'll continue to play the gerrymander and carry power where they can, but they'll be a national minority and we'll be able to move past them. At least that's my hope.

In completely unrelated news, I accidentally hit AM this morning, and to my surprise 700 AM in Houston was playing some complete fucking idiot screeching the most right wing hateful shit. Bejing Biden. If we don't have more babies the country is ruined, like China. Women raise bitchy men, and people aren't getting married because there's no manly men left. This was my introduction to Chris Salcedo, who after googling, I learned is the "Liberty loving Latino" and a contributor to newsmax.

We are beyond fucked.

Your hope is wrong.  There are only two options:

1) Trump wins in 2024, and we never have another actual functional election again.

2) Trump loses in 2024.....and immediately begins his (successful) campaign for the nomination in 2028.  Because yeah, he ain't gonna die.  Not anytime soon.  He'll live to be 95, at least.

Trump is not going away any time soon.  Losing doesn't stop him, because he simply declares that he didn't lose and the base believes him....and the rest of the GQP falls in line.

None of this gets any better until he dies.  That's it.  That's the only thing that can help at all.

MAGA dies with Trump. It's all about him.

Yeah there’s plenty of narcissistic amoral, racist, stupid fake billionaires in this country to take up the mantle. It just may not be as successful

It doesn't die with him.  The base of the movement has been there a long, long time (Tea Party movement, birtherism, etc.).  BUT....its outsized power will go away when he dies.  He has a unique, incredible ability to unify fucking idiots and assholes.  It's objectively one of the most impressive, amazing things I've ever seen.  If it was in service to building a fanbase of the Cleveland Browns, I'd be able to observe it and enjoy it from an academic perspective.  The fact that its in service of a narcissist's plan to destroy a country and perhaps the entire planet in service of his own ego....makes it much less fun.

Other politicians and billionaires will try to duplicate it.  Hell, they already have/are.  Their success has been middling, because Trump is the greatest there's ever been at that particular game.

Trump's death will mean MAGA will have much reduced power.  Which would still be a huge fucking win for humanity.

He's a stupid oaf, but he does have charisma. And whatever that is that allows him to say and do things that should mortify everyone, but has lifelong republicans going "sure!" to things they supposedly despise.

The GQP has literally flipped its positions 180 degrees on some pretty fundamental matters in no time at all.  It's a jaw-dropping thing to see.

Russia and Putin went from mortal enemies to desired allies and people we should admire and aspire to be more like.  That's one I'll never, ever, ever understand.

They could pull the plug on him at any moment. Instead they let him take the nomination and put his family in charge of the party. He obviously still offers them value. Chaos and destroying the rule of law in general comes to mind.

We should all want this. Let that two-time loser bound for actual criminal charges dismantle the entire party.

The BMDs could but they’d lose the base for a long time. Every attempt to get rid of Trump, try an alternative, put up their own candidates against his has been met with failure.

it'd take some hollywood personality going hard right to repeat the success.  if i wanted to repeat the magic of trump, i'd look at about 20 years in the future and find some 40 year old charismatic person to have a series of tv shows that put him in roles where he is always the manly big boss man, then pump him up for the 2044 election.  i don't think all the stuff that trump has exists right now organically.

Yeah, I dont think those people die, I just think a chunk of them go back into the woodword and back to not showing up for elections. Their power reduces. It won't die. But it won't be driving 70 million people to the polls. And I think even the news organizations will regroup as well, Fox News, etc. But we'll see.

Don't get me wrong, this country is still fucked. But more like, couple dead limbs that we can't amputate, not final stage prostate cancer.

The MAGA MOVEMENT dies with Trump. I think some are confusing that with the GOP since they are currently one in the same.

The hard core Trumpers who Trump brought into the fold will leave, killing the movement. The stain will remain.

I'm not convinced they really put their support behind DeSantis, Haley, et al. I think he is still good for them for reasons I can only speculate at this point, which I think has less to do with whose actually in office, and more to do with the degradation of American society in general. They just need a huge chunk of average workers to hate the government and to never question the billionaire class. If you dare discuss the causes of extraordinary wealth disparity, you're a woke socialist libtard.

Idk, it feels like in 2016 and in 2024, the BMDs of the GOP have not read the base very well.

They don't want an alternative to Trump, or even a Trump Lite (aka, not such an open racist and dumbfuck).  You can put up anyone who can disparage wokeness, CRT, trans people, immigrants, and try to package it neatly, but they only care the most when the orange shitgibbon does it.

Trump is to right wing politicians as Rush Limbaugh is to right wing talk radio.  they are/were each one of one.

right wing talk radio still exists but nobody has been able to fill Rush's shoes, and nobody ever will.  he galvanized the base like no other and paved the way for Trump.  now, radio as a medium has become less important with Twitter/X.  but still, if Rush was alive, he'd still be a major player in stoking the stolen election lie and rallying the troops.

Trump is the same way with the GOP.  he's singular.  no other R can get 75 million voters to come out for him. when Trump is gone, others will try to emulate Trump as much as possible and be the torch bearer for MAGA.  but there is nobody who will be able to do that.  yet.  that's the scary thing.  there will be another Trump one of these decades.  only worse. and more effective.

Counterpoint, with the decay in intelligence and public education, maybe they won't be more effective?

Right! They’ll just be a bunch of Charlie Kirk or Ben Shapiro level “intellectuals” with higher education from the grift school, I mean, Trump Academy of Not Wokeness

D&D players get this. He put ALL them points into Charisma, with a few saved for CON. The rest were dump stats.

Oh, they've been doing that for decades, since long before Trump. If there were a point in time where the Religious Right was ever following Jesus, it was long before my lifetime.
