The next punch Republicans delivered to my daughter’s future was yesterday. Interviewing for another position at UT Health, she learned her SS number has been flagged DEI, and that no university can hire her.

What does that even mean?

There’s a lawyer working to answer that question as I type.

Edited to say that, in her interview, she was told exactly (according to her memory) what I posted.

All she did was work for a program that had a DEI word in it. That makes her tainted with DEI?

Yes. That’s my understanding. Hopefully, the lawyer can explain things more clearly.

Back in simpler times a few months ago, I would have thought "That's just a mistake and it sucks, but I'm sure it will get cleared up" now, I'm like " that seems about right, it's probably worse than lawyer is letting on"

Hang in there. Pics of daughter may help with diagnosis of the situation

So, there seem to be rumors afoot that companies and entities engaged in "DEI" could face adverse action from the EEOC.

As we should already know, proving employment discrimination is extraordinarily difficult. @safe sex

Trump's EEOC admits that a) DEI has no definition and as such not illegal; and b) you still have to prove employment discrimination under the existing legal framework.

https://www.eeoc.gov/wysk/what-you-should-know-about-dei-related-discrimination-work

So, it will be interesting to see if the courts change the law to make proof of discrimination easier.

Would love to hear more about this blackballing. Sounds like there is some government blackballing by tagging a SSN for getting a job?! That sounds so fake and dystopian, but I guess I could see it in this environment. Normally I'd say this is 100% your daughter misinterpreting but who knows now.

Keep the board updated on what you find out. Seems like something that would need to get out there if what the person who interviewed her or what she recalled is accurate.

Maybe make people who had DEI wear a Star on their clothes?  Seems like that would help identify them later.

Does this mean because Governor Abbott, being a member of the “inclusion” community by virtue of his disability, will not be able to get another job?

She  has rejected my advice that she continue her education in Canada, France, or Germany. At the time she said that felt like surrender. Now, she says what’s the point? She’s sick of doors being slammed in her face.

Also, talking with my wife more about a flagged SS number, I’ve learned that there are flags, examples being for veterans, and for the disabled. My wife did her share of hiring for the city, so I took her word for it.

It seems so long since Roe v Wade was overturned, but here is a reminder of how evil that shit is. Remember how the anti-abortion freaks would put up those giant billboards of aborted fetuses in front of Gregory? Well, I just saw the reverse. A baby that should have never been born, with a condition incompatible with life, due to the mother being unable to get an abortion.

In addition to being financially ruined, the mother will be forced to watch her horribly disfigured, mentally non-functional child suffer until what is hopefully an early death. I can't share the inage but it's fucking nightmare fuel. Republicans just out there protecting women and babies.

The title of their first motion should be "And Trump Agrees, We've Done Nothing Wrong."

Quote

“Have you noticed that lots of law firms have been signing up with Trump?” the president said, referring to himself in the third person. “$100 million, another $100 million for, uh, damages that they’ve done. They give you $100 million and then they announce that, ‘But we have done nothing wrong.’ And I agree, they’ve done nothing wrong. But what the hell, they give me a lot of money considering they’ve done nothing wrong.”

These EOs are retaliatory, and an unconstitutional exercise of the power of the office to serve his personal goals.

The fact that Trumpkins, and those around here who support him, excuse using the power of our government to exact retribution against law firms who had the temerity to take legal positions that Donald Trump personally doesn't like is as chilling as it gets.  It's among the more horrific things this regime has done, and I don't say that because I'm a lawyer -- I say it because it's perhaps the most naked and flagrant 1) use of government power 2)in violation of the Constitution for 3) purely personal purposes (personal vendetta) I've ever seen.  It's EXACTLY what a fascist authoritarian state would do, and if you support it, excuse it, or are in ANY way okay with it, you are a fucking fascist authoritarian and should meet your end at an Esso station just like your fascist gods.  You and your guys are completely outside the law, and do not deserve its protections.  Once you've opted out, you've fucking opted out.

We’ve moved beyond law firms and are now just targeting individuals who say things Trump doesn’t like.  Today he signed an executive order targeting a former government employee for “falsely denying that the 2020 election was stolen and rigged.”

https://www.whitehouse.gov/fact-sheets/2025/04/fact-sheet-president-donald-j-trump-addresses-risks-from-chris-krebs-and-government-censorship/

Quote

ENDING GOVERNMENT CENSORSHIP: President Trump is committed to ending government censorship of Americans and believes that those who engage in such conduct should not have access to our nation’s secrets.

Krebs, the former head of CISA, is a significant bad-faith actor who weaponized and abused his government authority.

Krebs, through CISA:

Suppressed conservative viewpoints under the guise of combatting purported misinformation, and recruited and coerced major social media platforms to further its partisan mission.

Covertly worked to blind the American public to the controversy surrounding Hunter Biden’s laptop.

Promoted the censorship of election information, including known risks associated with certain voting practices, and falsely and baselessly denied that the 2020 election was rigged and stolen, including by inappropriately and categorically dismissing widespread election malfeasance and serious vulnerabilities with voting machines.

Skewed the bona fide debate about COVID-19 by attempting to discredit widely shared views that ran contrary to CISA’s favored perspective.

On a related note, Dominion just won a judgment that Newsmax defamed them as a matter of law.

Trump appointee McFadden enjoined the White House from keeping AP out of the press pool.

That's uber-petty.  But here is something they did do.

https://abovethelaw.com/2025/04/former-national-security-officials-take-aim-at-trumps-biglaw-executive-orders-in-amicus-brief/

The brief, filed by the Peter Gruber Rule of Law Clinic at Yale Law School and Susman Godfrey, takes particular aim at “the President’s attempt to invoke national security to justify this punitive, retributive, ad hominem Order.”

Trump's attempt to create presidential power by encanting "foreign affairs" and "national security" over matters having little or nothing to do with either is probably the grossest abuse of his powers, notwithstanding its lack of effect on little people.

I just came across this in a discussion and thought it summed up MAGA rather well.

Del Glasz MAGA'S denial of reality.
After 8 years of interaction with MAGA, it is clear to me that it is the case.

It's why they support a convicted felon, adjudicated sexual abuser, and adjudicated fraudster, that came to power by starting the birther movement when we elected our first black president.

Facts don't matter to MAGA.
Trump feeds his base lies. They use those lies as a permission structure (cover) to support him while hiding their racism, bigotry, homophobia, and transphobia.

They can hide behind Trump.
Out from the shadows.

That's why "Haitians were eating pets" when they weren't ... or black, brown, or the disabled may have caused a tragic plane crash.
That's why they won't take 2 minutes to do research or totally deny reality.

They NEED to maintain that relationship with Trump.

They aren't fooling anyone like they did in his first term.

Don't argue facts with MAGA (that they can look up in 2 minutes).

Ask yourself why they accept lies (that can be looked up in 2 minutes).

Re. My daughter’s experiences. I have learned the SS number mention referenced a file specific to an individual researcher, which is known as an ORCID file. This file contains all of an individual’s published research, all who conduct research have such a file, and the SS number differentiates between two researchers who share the same name. And, yes, the fact that my daughter was employed in a program Republicans have labeled DEI has been added to my daughter’s research file.

UT legal came to the conclusion that employing my daughter in another job leaves them vulnerable to the charge that “DEI hires” were just shuffled around.

M daughter makes clear that she was told this notation in her file will sabotage any interview at a research university. Too bad. So sad.

Here is the offending language of the Post-Baccalaureate Research Education Program  (PREP) program she was enrolled in:

”The Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences at UT Health San Antonio provides an individualized, diverse and multidisciplinary learning environment for students to develop the knowledge, skills and creativity necessary to succeed in the evolving biomedical disciplines.”

Here is a link to UT Health’s PREP program:

https://uthscsa.edu/biomedical-sciences/programs/prep

The whole program has been obliterated, apparently, and recently too.  Or maybe restyled without the "DEI" stuff.  https://uthscsa.edu/biomedical-sciences/programs/certificate-pre-professional

She was a researcher/student?  Or an administrator?

That's fucking disgusting.

Because we are living under a dictatorship…that’s why.

When talking with others I've been referring to it as the regime.  It is not an administration, as that would require management and as far as I can tell, there is none, only chaos and dictates, so a dictatorship and/or regime (regimes can be democratic, but let's be clear that this is not the case based on the last 3 months).
