That age demographic (my parents are in their late 60’s) for some reason don’t possess a bullshit filter when it comes to things on the internet. For some reason, if it’s on the internet it must be true (in their world). For well over a decade I’ve had to debunk absolute nonsense that both parents come at me with, and after peeling back the layers I discover they saw some clip or read some nonsense meme on Facebook. I’ve gotten to the point now where my dad will say something absurd, and I’ll just cut him off and say “I bet you saw/read that on Facebook”. To which his response 98% of the time is “yeah I did and I’ll show you where!”. I let him, then casually use the Google machine and show its absolute nonsense. This applies to government/partisan stuff, urban legends, dietary and helmets advice, etc.

I am lucky in that I was able to talk my parents through that phenomenon.  It started in the email FWD:FWD:FWD: era.  My mother would get an email about gangs flashing headlights, and AIDS needles in payphone coin returns and all that shit, and I'd gently explain that it was bullshit, citing sources (introduced mom to Snopes early on), and explained the phenomenon of the internet being a fountain of utter bullshit, and your FIRST instinct should be to assume all such stories are FALSE.  It took a few years, but eventually, my mom turned into one of the people who would gently correct HER friends when they sent dumb bullshit to her.

But again....I caught it and addressed it EARLY.

HHS, NIH launch next-generation universal vaccine platform for pandemic-prone viruses

Image

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the National Institutes for Health (NIH) today announced the development of the next-generation, universal vaccine platform, Generation Gold Standard, using a beta-propiolactone (BPL)-inactivated, whole-virus platform.

This initiative represents a decisive shift toward transparency, effectiveness, and comprehensive preparedness, funding the NIH’s in-house development of universal influenza and coronavirus vaccines, including candidates BPL-1357 and BPL-24910. These vaccines aim to provide broad-spectrum protection against multiple strains of pandemic-prone viruses such as H5N1 avian influenza and coronaviruses including SARS-CoV-2, SARS-CoV-1, and MERS-CoV.

“Our commitment is clear: every innovation in vaccine development must be grounded in gold standard science and transparency, and subjected to the highest standards of safety and efficacy testing,” said HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.

The program realigns BARDA’s operations with its statutory mission under the Public Health Service Act—to prepare for all influenza viral threats, not just those currently circulating.

“Generation Gold Standard is a paradigm shift,” said NIH Director Dr. Jay Bhattacharya. “It extends vaccine protection beyond strain-specific limits and prepares for flu viral threats – not just today’s, but tomorrow’s as well – using traditional vaccine technology brought into the 21st century.”

Generation Gold Standard, developed exclusively by NIH’s National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID):

Recalibrates America’s pandemic preparedness. Unlike traditional vaccines that target specific strains, BPL-inactivated whole-virus vaccines preserve the virus’s structural integrity while eliminating infectivity. This approach induces robust B and T cell immune responses and offers long-lasting protection across diverse viral families. Moreover, the intranasal formulation of BPL-1357 is currently in Phase Ib and II/III trials and is designed to block virus transmission—an innovation absent from current flu and COVID-19 vaccines.

Embodies efficient, transparent, and government-led research. The BPL platform is fully government-owned and NIH-developed. This approach ensures radical transparency, public accountability, and freedom from commercial conflicts of interest.

Marks the future of vaccine development. In addition to influenza and coronavirus, the BPL platform is adaptable for future use against respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), metapneumovirus, and parainfluenza. It also offers the unprecedented capability to protect against avian influenza without inducing antigenic drift—a major step forward in proactive pandemic prevention.

Clinical trials for universal influenza vaccines are scheduled to begin in 2026, with Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval targeted for 2029. The intranasal BPL-1357 flu vaccine, currently in advanced trials, is also on track for FDA review by 2029.

About the National Institutes of Health (NIH): NIH, the nation's medical research agency, includes 27 Institutes and Centers and is a component of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. NIH is the primary federal agency conducting and supporting basic, clinical, and translational medical research, and is investigating the causes, treatments, and cures for both common and rare diseases. So where's the part about the microchip and the 5G?

US COVID-19 survivors are at higher risk for type 2 inflammatory diseases (T2IDs) of the airways, such as asthma, hay fever, and chronic sinusitis (sinus infection), a risk that can be mediated by vaccination, a group of international researchers suggest in The Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology.

Death cult.

A few thoughts:

a) sketchy "reporting"

b) it would affect Dems more than 'pubs based on vaccine uptake estimates, so as a strategy, I guess?

c) Trump had a near-lethal case of covid.  I can only assume he thinks he's immune.

And yet I don't believe the rumor, but nothing will surprise me at this point.

I bet a $50 burnt ends donation they're going to kneecap vaccines across the country under the guise of fighting autism. Inb4 the usual suspects chime in to say we're overreacting

She's been formally fired by MAGA now

https://www.cnbc.com/2025/08/27/cdc-director-susan-monarez-.html?msockid=0fb9a436d9bd6ddb12e3b10dd8a56cba

"Susan Monarez is not aligned with the President's agenda of Making America Healthy Again," White House Spokesman Kush Desai said in a statement to NBC News. "Since Susan Monarez refused to resign despite informing [Health and Human Services Department] leadership of her intent to do so, the White House has terminated Monarez from her position with the CDC."

The statement comes hours after attorney Mark Zaid said he was representing Monarez and that she had not actually been fired yet or stepped down, adding that she would not resign.

"When CDC Director Susan Monarez refused to rubber-stamp unscientific, reckless directives and fire dedicated health experts, she chose protecting the public over serving a political agenda," Zaid said in a statement. "For that, she has been targeted."

Earlier on Wednesday, HHS said in a post on X that "Monarez is no longer director" of the agency.

Monarez, a longtime federal government scientist, was sworn in on July 31. She is the first CDC director to be confirmed by the Senate following a new law passed during the pandemic that required lawmakers to approve nominees for the role.

The democratic governors of Oregon, Washington and California are forming a new public health partnership aimed at preserving access to vaccines.

The partnership, called the Western Health Alliance, will develop its own immunization guidelines “informed by respected national medical organizations,” according to a press release Wednesday from Oregon Gov. Tina Kotek, Washington Gov. Bob Ferguson and California Gov. Gavin Newsom.

Their announcement comes after a week of chaos at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Last week, the White House fired CDC Director Susan Monarez, who was appointed by President Trump, after she refused to approve vaccine policies preferred by Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

Several of the agency’s top career scientists also resigned in protest. On Monday, nine former directors of the CDC, who worked under both Republicans and Democrats, condemned Kennedy’s leadership of the agency in an op-ed in The New York Times.

By the way, given how our governor is desperate to try and one-up Florida way too often, I fully expect the State of Texas to ban mandatory school vaccines as well.  So we're absolutely bringing back all the greatest hits from the 40s, 50s, and 60s, because fuck them kids, they can have Ivermectine just like their parents.

I got mine today.  But the Walgreens tech was dubious about my chances, saying he had to turn a lot of people away the day before.  But the ERS version of BCBS apparently isn't trying too hard to keep people from getting the COVID vaccine.  I looked at the tech, who was at least tree-fiddy and said, "Hey man, according to my BMI, I'm obese.  That should get me there."

I'm on BCBSTX, fill me in.  What's the "ERS version"?  I'm definitely needing a boost (ahem).

Ah, so it's the plan.  (HMO vs PPO, etc.).  I don't think I'm on ERS.  I do however love beer and bbq.

We are early 60’s and we, and 11,000 of our friends in their 60’s, have no problem whatsoever understanding what crap on the internet is bs or not. It ain’t demographics. Your parents are morons. Pray that the apple falls far from the tree.

Read what you just wrote to a total stranger on the internet trying to engage in legitimate, honest, adult discussion and then ask yourself why anyone would want to engage in serious debate on any topic let alone take what you have to say seriously.

The lack of respect at the basic human level is wild to me, and a fundamental problem with our society. If I met you in real life, you wouldn’t dare say these things to my face, I promise you that. I’m not threatening you in any way; I promise me beating you to silly isn’t worth my livelihood so don’t misinterpret what I’m saying. What I’m saying is if we were having this discussion face to face, I highly doubt you would say these things in this way.

I conduct myself on here exactly the same as if I were speaking to someone face to face. Digest that for a minute before you respond.
