Raleek Brown will be on campus today, per On3

That is a good fall back option. Just add some OL, another WR or 2(doesn't even have to be Coleman although that would be great of course) and an Edge and it's not the disaster some think IMO.

Basically a Jaydon Blue clone, haven’t watched him much this year but he was a listed as a WR at USC and played the change of pace role at ASU last year.

He was a diva at USC and as a recruit. Great speed and good quickness though.

Compared to Wisner 2024 highlights and he is at best replacement at the right price but we still need a #1.

Indiana is pantsing everyone in portal recruiting. It's obvious that money talks, and if the portal season closes before we land anyone then I hold most culpable whoever it was advising Texas to play hardball in these negotiations. Wisner and Livingstone might not have been worth what they were asking, but if we couldn't even entice Baugh away from Florida with Juluke, the most likely reason is that we got outbid. Those results are not in alignment with being The Joneses.

Similar season arc to Tre Wisner in 2024. Undersized RB pressed into an every-down role after the starter went down with injury, proceeded to rack up a 1,000-yard season.

He is a good player, I had a chance to watch a few ASU games and he definitely has some burst.

I really think we need someone named "hollywood smothers" on our team. I don't really care if he is any good.

Of the top 50 portal guys ranked by On3, 14 have committed. 6 of the 14 were Iowa State or North Texas guys following their coach.

You can add in top tier QBs of which we are not a bidder.

I think we have the money to compete (and win) any player but the donors are trying to not blow up the market value of a single player (or be held hostage and extorted for more money) and create locker room problems where one guy is paid an obscene amount. Schools like Tech, Florida, and aggy dont give a fuck about that. I think that's where the issue is.

22% of his total rushing yards came in 1 game - against Colorado. Colorado was #133 of 134 in run defense.

Indiana has signed 2 guys, one of which isn't a position we're chasing. And your view of the portal, like most people here, is like looking at the tip of the iceberg and being completely clueless that 80% of it is beneath the water. The amount we spend on retaining the roster so guys don't portal out is astronomical. We're paying six figures to plenty of kids out of HS who haven't even seen playing time, but everyone here would shit their pants if Justus Terry or Tyler Atkinson fucking bailed on us. As for "Being the Joneses" what a tired trope. With 20 million dollars, even shitty programs can flex up some money and save some of their best players if the kid is happy there otherwise. But not paying Wisner 1 million from 750, or moving Livingston up from whatever he was making to 800k, and suddenly we're just poor little ole' Texas getting outspend. It's so fucking stupid.

I don't think Brown chose Louisville over Texas for money and I don't think Baugh chose Florida for money. Not every kid is a mercenary. It is not difficult to imagine that a young kid could get disgruntled by his school's current offer that he reaches out to other schools to try to entice that school to up his offer. But the kid is also in theory working towards a degree and has friends/living arrangements already figured out at his current school. Does he want to see which classes transfer? How long it would take him to graduate at the new school? Find a new place to live? No. He wants his current school to pay whatever he thinks is the market rate for his services. So stories/rumors get started. Conversations with other schools happen. Then his original school comes in and sweetens the deal enough to make all the downside of leaving not worth whatever extra sum of money they may have passed on.

It's entirely possible we lost both Brown and Baugh due to money since no one knows. Breaking the bank for Baugh makes sense for Florida IMHO. Coleman though likely is a mercenary. If we lose him than that may likely be a money decision.

Raleek also had 239 on 34 receptions and 2 TDs. One of the more productive backs in the nation last year.

If we needed to we could get Governor Abbott to call a special session to pass a law forcing all his Florida credits to transfer as 100 A+ credit hours. Plus, for most student athletes, they ain't come to play school.

This is the dumbest, most thoughtless and uninformed post you've made yet. Literally nothing will cost Sark this job other than Steve Sarkisian. And by Steve Sarkisian, I don't mean missing some portal targets, I mean a complete implosion of himself and the team.

Oh, I see, you're living in fantasyland and are completely unmoored from reality. Disregard my previous post, despite it still being true. Listen, I've heard of this place called Orangebloods, you might be a fit there. Or the football board here.

Raleek Brown is asking over 1M so if he signs with us as part of a two back class, that’s not a sign of Texas being cheap.

This guy is pretty tiny, but he plays tough and he’s fast as shit. He would be a great option in the passing game and in two back sets.

I think he was a Mater Dei kid too, so there’s definitely some familiarity

Raleek Brown is a tough little fucker, has some of that insane Skattebo energy. He’s pretty small, so it would be optimal to add a bigger dude (who’s worth a shit) as well but he’s definitely a plus add. Clark’s emergence in the bowl game was encouraging. I have no idea what’s up with Simon after he didn’t get any play in Orlando, and who knows if Terry stays at RB and how soon Cooper can contribute. Juluke has work to do.

Even removing those 255 yards he had against Colorado - he still averaged 5.4ypc in the other 11 games.

The problem I see here is that as long as the other guys are willing to pay more, the strategy of lowballing and letting guys walk isn't going to work for us. We've known for months that portal had to be our top priority, and the fact most of the important guys we want haven't already signed is a bad sign.

Texas couldn't run the ball against San Jose State, UTEP or Mississippi State this year, so Brown racking up yardage against garbage teams is already better than what we had.

That's fair. I just don't understand how behind schedule all this is. If Indiana can sign six by now, there's no reason we cannot also have done so or at the very least there would be sources telling us that the top guys are signaling we're in the lead and the deal is ours to lose.

Watched all of this. He doesn't have a lot of lower-the-shoulder power to his game at all. He also lacks the long speed of Isaac Brown.

He has good initial burst/acceleration, great shiftiness to avoid tacklers, and excellent patience/vision. Also a good receiver out of the backfield.

Looks like a solid all-around back and definitely an upgrade from Wisner.

They do need a solid LB. Doesn't even need to be some stud, just a guy who can tackle and looks like he can get to the passer a bit too.

How many of those players they signed were the best at their position? Indiana isn’t going after the Cam Coleman’s or trying to entice a Jayden Baugh into the portal. They’ve signed a few very good players - but none of those guys are top players being chased by multiple top teams.

The issue with the new know nothing dipshits is that nobody has them on ignore yet and everyone wants to get their dunks in, I promise you it is much easier to simply let them yell into the void

Think he is Blue with more wiggle. He fits well with Sark and Texas. The 2-3 times a game the OL blocks well, he can make it a 50+ TD. He is a complete mismatch out of the backfield. Not a guy you want to rely on for 20 carries but put him in a rotation with a power back and you have something.
