What is this about a new 'wall of water' heading downstream towards Kerrville and an evacuation being ordered?  Anything to that rumor?

2 inches fell out west a bit ago so more flooding may occur.

It seems like that is real. As to where the wall of water is I don’t know. Additionally, as others have said there also appears to be more rain headed to that area that doesn’t need it whatsoever.

There’s a flash flood warning in effect. SAR has been pulled back due to the potential of flooding.

Ground is saturated. Is the guad still out of its banks?

Our friends sister is friends with a lady who had a kid there(kid is okay) but she said her kid told her that she heard her friends on the 1st floor be swept away as well as her counselor. She said she climbed on top of the bunk bed and was rescued. Kid said she heard all the other girls screaming as they floated away

That’ll haunt you for the next 70 years or so.

It’s tiresome to have so many threads to protect everyone’s delicate feelings only to have to wade through a bunch of posts from people crying about getting their feelings hurt. People need to grow the fuck up. Bad shit is happening. It’s messy. This isn’t the time to complain about your feeling getting hurt when people are suffering.

I say a it’s fact Kerr county refused to fund a siren system. If you have evidence that’s not the case post it. It’s not my opinion. It has nothing to do with a political opinion. Grow up

It’s not that the “political” statements/opinions aren’t accurate, it’s more that a handful of posters are making these same points over and again two or three times per page while the majority of people reading this thread are here for updates.

A whole lot of kids and families are going to need grief counseling. I hope there is some sort of way to ensure these people have access to the care that they are going to need on an ongoing basis.

I know the guy on the ground and I trust him but he was getting that information second hand.  I haven't seen anything official that confirms the story.

In addition to the report here, I heard from another who was involved in the rescue. Also watched this video, from this morning. I fear echo chambers but there are major outlets, not just Kerrville rag, reporting this.  I can’t embed video.  https://www.facebook.com/share/v/16vA2fX2me/?mibextid=KsPBc6

No it hasn't. All the "confirmations" are just folks saying they saw Cord Shiflet's FB video. Nobody has another piece of evidence yet. Otherwise it'd be all over the news.

And he’s getting questioned by it on FB. I know him and would be surprised if he’s making that up. But I heard from 2 sources on the ground with no reference to his video. Still weird that Roy would say that and it’s not being more widely reported.

I knew him briefly in Austin through other friends. I'm not accusing him of making something up, but I'm certainly accusing him of behaving irresponsibly. He probably heard something and wanted to be the guy to have the news, but he heard wrong. Can you imagine it being kept quiet for hours if there really were 2 girls found? I doubt it.

For the record, I hope they found the 2 girls alive, but there just isn't evidence to support it yet.

Well, he’ll get absolutely roasted if it’s just hearsay being passed off as directly-involved rescue efforts.

While I, like everyone of course, was hopeful and hoping this to be true, the lack of any video or pictures of the actual rescue gave me concern. Maybe I’m wrong, and maybe some of the areas are too remote for someone to have gotten video…but I guess the only way we’ll know if they get anyone alive from here on out it when they show it and name the person

I want to believe.... but at this point its sadly looking like wish-casting.

Homesick posted the inital news that he heard from a first responder almost 2.5 hours ago.    if it was true, a chopper would have been able to pick them up by now... or if the weather or spot didnt allow it, a fucking police car with full sirens blaring would have driven them to the nearest hospital.

im thinking it was a misunderstanding of the story from later on July 4th when the two girls (who looked to be older than 8/9 were picked up and put on a chopper and somehow it telephone-gamed into 2 new being rescued.

yep. I watched his video several times to be sure. He has no direct evidence. Chip Roy flat out said it wasn't true. No law enforcement or rescue service has confirmed it. No news station has confirmed it. Of course, it's all over FB and mom texts.

From the source of the original reporting:

Quote

False reports of two girls being rescued alive from a tree near Center Point spread rapidly Sunday among residents desperate for good news about missing children from the catastrophic Kerr County flooding, prompting officials to caution against unverified information.

The Kerr County Lead was among the first news outlets to report the rescue after receiving numerous messages about the girls, along with social media reports from volunteers exclaiming the rescue. Sheriff Larry Leitha later said the reports were “100% inaccurate.”

Damn, this sucks.

Am I tripping or did someone post a picture or a link to a story with a picture that showed two little girls in the back of a helicopter that was the two girls found in the tree? I remember one girl had on glittery rain boots and the other appeared to be wearing sandals that looked big on her like they weren’t originally hers?

Ir might have been a different rescue yesterday, disregard.

The pic you are talking about and those two girls in the Blackhawk were picked up on Saturday... not today.

Yup - the video of this rescue was from Friday morning.  I suspect it's responsible for a lot of confusion.

I'm glad they are finding so many bodies. I have a friend whose wife was washed away in a flood years ago. They never found her body. That's been tough on him and the family.

The main thing is the necessary aircraft they couldn’t bring in yesterday are coming in now and tomorrow. Something to do with weather and flight patterns and other things as to why they were not there earlier,

these are equipped with things even better than FLIR which is how it’s being described. So if there is someone to find and be rescued or sadly recovered they can get better eyes on them.

Yes.  Although there’s never true “closure,” being able to properly bury your loved one and have a place to visit their grave sure beats the alternative.

At this point I’ve long since given up on finding survivors (at least among the ones that are known to be missing).  I’d be very happy to finally account for the missing, confirm they are deceased and have the tally of victims stop rising.

I’ve a good friend who has been kayaking flooded rivers in Texas since he was a teen. It is something he and his dad do.

I’m sure they’re fine people, but the arrogance of doing that and potentially putting first responders at risk simply because you wanted to get your jollies off is peak ‘Merica. Not to mention having to allocate resources and efforts away from the current issues to address a 100% avoidable problem they created via selfish behavior.

A tiny note on hill country summer camps from my experience as a camper (most of you it sounds like are fairly familiar with what I am saying):

For me, Waldemar was magical place that was not just a place for me to learn to be independent from my family but also to learn a couple of new skills. learning to be reaponsible and being assigned tasks and having to make my bed every day and clean my cabin. Learning to make conversation at the dinner table and learn proper eating etiquette lol.

I learned to do things I would never have had the opportunity to do had I not gone. Archery, badminton, canoeing, drama, fencing, all sorts of shit. It wasn’t just about making friends or building my self esteem.

It was also learning life and survival skills and also an appreciation of nature and a chance to grow in my faith.

as a counselor I got my lifeguard certification in the Guadeloupe River. Jumped in with boots and jeans and a long sleeve button down shirt. Had to make flotation device out of my jeans and also dive for white bricks at the bottom of the river.

the task before our searchers is one I cannot fathom and I wish them all god speed and good luck and hope and pray for a rescue or two and not just a recovery.

May every person be found. please.
