That was just dumb internet speculation. This was an outright lie.

What I heard, and this buddy is profusely apologizing to our text group, as is Cord.

So your buddy told you he had helped rescue two girls today? And he’s still your buddy?

Can I ask why this guy doesn’t just get banned @immamac? He’s been spreading blatant misinformation about an ongoing catastrophe.

No I havent at all. But whatever man. I’ve been crucified here since I joined to ask the Iowa St guys a question about their QB. I’ve got a vested interest in this area and have been directly affected by the flood more than you fucking know, wanted information, and I posted 2 things that were incorrect amongst 10 other correct things I brought to the thread before they were here.

“Aw jeez, sure I lied and said a buddy rescued two girls today but that was just a little oopsie. It’s really unfair and mean to hold that against me!”

I didn’t lie. Like Cord, he misrepresented his involvement. I’m not spreading disinformation any moreso than people linking Chronicle, Kerrville paper and I saw the NY Post report on it.

I’m pretty sure it’s me you’re talking about. Not verbatim, but close. I got word from someone close to the responders. Only to find out that it wasn’t true later. I apologized.

Where are you seeing this notification? Just word of mouth or has something been officially released.

There was a vigil held at Casis for the community this evening. Only 1 girl from the neighborhood was officially confirmed and one other that goes to highland park elementary. The other in the neighborhood has not been confirmed.

No, I’m talking about the new guy who totally isn’t Rex who said he had a friend who helped rescue the girls today who confirmed it to him.

I think it’s a lot more likely that he’s lying to us than that he’s got a real life friend who lied to him about something this serious.

I have permission to post one of the girls that one of my cousin’s friend is looking for, I don’t have permission to post the name or picture of the other girl. I would just ask if you hear anything or learn any news if you could please DM me. As of now, neither girl has been located but I thought I would share the name and face of one of the girls since I have permission.

greta is the niece of my younger cousin’s best friend.

thanks. 🙏🏼

I just keep hoping which is I suppose right now being in denial. Both my cousins have been thru so much with their parents dying months apart in 2023. And now like troopers they are there for each of their friends who are waiting for news on their little bitties. As the oldest of them, I feel like I need to suck it up and wade through all the rumors and shit news for them both. This is just so fucked.

oddly enough it hasn’t shaken my faith. It is my belief this was preventable. Apparently also I have heard via one camper speaking there was a loud thunderclap that woke up many at 2:00 am. So many warnings ignored. Imagine waking up to darkness and no power and water raging outside and rushing in half a foot a minute inside your cabin…and trying to figure out what to do next. I cannot.

That’s awesome. Let’s be clear though. That’s humanity, it’s not uniquely Texan.

I mean....maybe.  Sometimes, some humans do some decent shit.  But most of the time, the majority of us dedicate all of our efforts and collective social policy to hurting others.  Free tamales are great.  But they don't make up for the fact that - as just one example - if they were being served by undocumented people, most every person in the area doing volunteer work would stop to cheer on ICE as the grabbed them and tossed them in a van.  It doesn't make up for the fact that most of those people will continue to do all they can to insure that our government entities are further defunded and attacked so they become even less able to try to prevent future disasters.

Free food is window dressing.  It doesn't conceal the rot behind those windows.

We need to be the kind of society that actually works to make sure that tragedies like this don't happen anymore, or at least don't happen to this degree.  And that is the one thing that we can all rest assured will NOT happen in this case.  Or any other.  We'll stick with the victory of our new state motto, "It Could Have Been Worse."

The CG Rescue Swimmer sounds like a team player...👏

The CG crews working during Katrina were fucking real-deal heroes.  They worked past their allowed time.  They were exhausted.  Some crews were told to stand down.  They refused, and kept on rescuing people.  The CG is some of the best of what we've got.  I'm glad we have them.

Brisket, I typically agree with you. And I get your point. But I’d bet balls to a barn dance that there were a fuckton of undocumented folks out there distributing food. My point was that for a brief moment/couple of days, it didn’t matter. There was a common goal, to help, and everything else went out the window.

At least that’s how I perceived it. Maybe I was just too fucking tired.

Chloe Childress was a beloved camp counselor at Mystic and a beautiful person with a promising future. Chloe was co-president of the Honor Council, a varsity cross-country runner, and the founder of a service club dedicated to helping senior citizens. She was supposed to attend University of Texas at Austin this fall.

This beautiful soul lost her life in the flood.

My dad lives in Kerrville (it got interesting, but he is ok). Sister and nieces grew up and worked at Mystic. Know the Eastlands. Know the Ragsdales. Know some of the families.

I’m not in Texas currently and only know about this through this thread. Who are the Easterlands and Ragsdales? I know a Lowry Ragsdale form Houston Memorial who I think only has a son, Hunter.

well damn ....

It didn't make the list of real bad ones, but in late June or early July of 1977, after my parents picked me up at Camp Longhorn, we went to SA and were staying at La Mansion and the Riverwalk was seriously flooded so that the first floor of the hotel was starting to be awash.

Watching the river rush by from our second or third floor balcony was something I still remember.

The Eastlands are the family that owns Mystic.  Ragsdale family owned Camp Stewart and Heart O The Hills. Both lost their camp directors and family members in the flood.

Note that these camps (not Stewart) and La Junta are all along the South Fork of the GuadAlupe along Highway 39 within a few miles of each other.  While there was flooding all over the place, it seems it was particularly bad there.
