He's always been this way. Playcalling against TCU in 2022 felt punitive. I think Sark is a good dude but I also think he has an angry streak and I think it is most manifest when the team is failing to execute the layups he's feeding them. Maybe I'm just another fucking idiot on this board, but playcalling does not seem like the issue to me. At all.

Some plays get called because they're setting up later plays, not because they're necessarily going to succeed on that down. Sark does that a lot and always has. But what Sark does on offense only works if it's executed. If the players don't execute the play that is supposed to be the payoff for all that set up, then it doesn't mean dick and the whole thing falls apart. If you don't like that style of offense - which, for the record, is not an unreasonable position - then the only fix is a different playcaller or an entirely new OC. You're not talking about changes to game management, you're talking about a wholesale revision to the offensive philosophy.

Stroh needs to be gone. Drop Conner Roberson in at C and move Hutson to LG. Or anything that gets that guy off the field. I cannot believe how "cute" Sark is being about that guy's level of play. He should be irate and Flood should be working to save his job.

The offense is broken - Arch is a mess, the o-line is a mess, Wingo has issues. That whole side of the ball needs to be overhauled. I doubt it happens, but after the season, Sark needs to fire Milwee and Flood and bring in an OC to call plays and coach QBs.

I don't necessarily disagree, but holy shit look at the clip that @Newy25 posted ... the offense schemed people open ALL DAY, and Arch couldn't make any of the throws. A few were drop-backs with a clean (enough) pockets, a few were quick-single-read chip shots, and at least one was on a roll out (maybe an unplanned roll-out, but still). Every way you can put a QB in a position to succeed, Sark did for Arch.

The clip, in case you hate yourself enough to try and watch again.

The OL is ok. It's not a mess. It's not great, but It can be remedied by benching Stroh for Neto and going 90 percent gap scheme. There's a fix, but my hope Sark is just using these freebie games to experiment is going out the window. If he trots out this same shit vs SHSU then we're screwed. He needs at least one free win game to go with what he sees can work.

Arch is inexplicable. If he looks that bad again in the first half of SHSU then a change has to be made. Can't waste this elite of a championship level defense trying to baby a QB. It's so bad it looks like he's  never thrown to or practiced with any of the other players on offense before, and the dude has been in the program since January of 2023. You'd have to see if Caldwell can at least give you a bus driver's chance at Florida. Get Arch working with a psychologist and practicing with the backups behind the scenes all week and see if he can be fixed enough to get another shot this season.

That was so bad on Saturday the dude is embarrassing himself. It's almost to the point of being cruel to him to keep him playing like that.

I think people want to think it is just Arch, but the offense has some serious issues. UTEP ran 3 high vs Texas and Texas could not lean on the run. Perimeter blocking is just as gross as the interior blocking. Hell, even Goosby took a play off and flopped on a cut block that almost got Arch killed. Arch is a major problem, but this offense is not getting fixed (I mean enough to come close to a playoff team) with just improvement at the QB position.

I agree with this as well. I'm just saying that with "D1 starter a ANY P5 school" level of output, these challenges in our offense are far less 'the world is falling' and far more 'we might not be able to beat UGA and then tOSU b2b to win the natty, but we're in the conversation with just a few fixes like OL run blocking.' Everything feels worse because we can't even make the easy plays, and there's so little that Sark can do to scheme around the OL gaps without getting SOMETHING from his QB to help.

Lmao I hate predictions that change week to week. Aggy is now gonna make the playoff? They beat a 0-2 shitty ND team. They’ll have multiple losses by seasons end.

Underperformance from 5 star takes is slowly mounting.  Arch got the stars in multiple ways but not from on the field performance at Newman, and he looks like a guy with some tools that could be special but effectively gained nothing from jogging around against impotent 2A competition, meaning he needed and may still need significant time in the oven so to speak.

Kobe Black.

Simmons is special no doubt, yet for some reason looks indistinguishable from Justice Finkley so far this year

Jonah Williams could be great, and patience is needed no doubt, but the cards are begining to stack against him in an uncomfortable way.  Looks like a Whittington trajectory early on, at least there's hope his injury situation does not become chronic just yet.

Ant Hill is who he is, but again has looked the least impactful of the three top linebackers early in the '25 campaign.  My hope is he is being held back a bit until conference play.

Brandon Baker looks like a serviceable tackle, nowhere near expectations however.

Too early to make any judgements for Terry, despite fellow freshman Lance Jackson playing heavily.

Jaime Ffrench? Michael Terry?  Crickets so far.  Hopefully at least Lockett starts getting more snaps.

Wingo can run end arounds.

Baxter has had a ton of bad luck

DJ Campbell, has played a lot and has held a lot

Interesting that Arch has been terrible but he still has a higher QB rating than Lagway, Nussmeier, Klubnik, and Leavitt.

Simmons has been getting pressure, just not sacks. The coverage isn’t good enough to make QBs hold on to the ball longer. Jaylon Guilbeau can’t cover and can’t really recover, so he plays off so he doesn’t get beat over the top.

Not just him, but lots of space underneath where we just try to rally and tackle.

A few thoughts about the current state of affairs:

1. Milwee is the most hated person on Surly right now.  But Arch has his own QB coach, David Morris. It would be interesting to hear about the dynamic between Morris and the coaching staff on the current Arch situation. Like any conflict, I'm sure both sides are blaming each other. But at the end of the day, I'm not sure how much Milwee is influencing Arch's mechanics, feet, alignment, etc. In the attached article there is a refence to arm angles being captured by drones.  Have they loaded Arch's brain with so many concepts his head has exploded? If you are taking drone footage of arm angles, I would say "Yes". As an erratic golfer, I can attest to the damage that can be done by juggling too much information on mechanics.

2. I am less worried about Guilbeau than others. He plays a tough position and always has to chase guys around. He's going to get beat. Hopefully not a lot. He's talented.

3. I've been unhappy with Sark's offense from a total continuity level since the day he stepped on campus. He mixes in occasional brilliant play calling with a stubborness and lack of creativity that bogs down the offense. However, I do believe he purposely went plain vanilla running attack Saturday because he wants his team to run the ball more effectively and wanted them to practice it. So maybe the offense will look better in 2 weeks.  This week will be all about giving Arch enough dynamic plays to get everyone off his back. Then they will run some more.

Being a Spurs fan (fuck Kawhi) I was set to make an "Uncle David" joke...

I know he's not but can we have a "Fire Uncle David. Hire Uncle Peyton." banner at the ready for the next game?

I think the people are on Milwee, because he is the common denominator between Quinn and Arch. Quinn always had bad mechanics and they never got better. Arch had good mechanics and now they are a disaster. IF you watch 4 years of QBs displaying bad mechanics under the same staff it is not crazy to question their ability to teach mechanics.

His inability to layer the ball or know how much to put behind his passes is the biggest issue I see right now. The pocket is rarely going to be perfect and you have to play football on the move sometimes, so the footwork/arm angle stuff is never going to be pristine, but he seems unable to determine when to put air under the ball and when to throw a fastball.

He throws a 1000 MPH fastball to Clark on a sideline on the short side of the field. Then, on the wheel to Wingo and post to Livingstone, he has no feel for how much air to put under the ball.

The quote from Sark about Stroh getting snaps at Center feels like he is just fucking with us in a petty way.

If it is legit, what the fuck is going on there? Have we not heard how much the staff likes both Robertson and Cruz for over a year now? Does Stroh have a megadonor relative we’re unaware of? Or compromising pictures of Flood and/or Sark?

The only work I did was write the prompt. This was courtesy of the free version of ChatGPT. Here is my prompt:

"Please design the following stylized mascots. Design a graphic of the San Jose State Spartan, UTEP Miner, and Sam Houston Bearkat in a dramatic, shadowy, “warrior” style - powerful poses, dark tones, glowing eyes, and intimidating weapons: a glowing pickaxe for the miner, a sword for the spartan, and sharp claws for the bearkat. Above the picture should be text that reads "Murderer's Row"

I think the touch thing probably follows somewhat from bad fundamentals.  Not the 1000 mph thing -  that’s just him being a spaz - but the layering that Quinn was so good at.  You have to have a baseline to fall back on.  It’s like throwing a curve if your stride is different every time.  Your location control is going to be shit.
