We got better at that in 2022, but still had the same issue and still lost games because of it. KSU in 2022 and 2023 are a good example.

We haven’t lost to Kansas State since 2016 (I’m assuming that’s what you mean by KSU). Oklahoma State in 2021 (Thompson with a ridiculously bad Pick 6) and 2022 seem to fit what you’re describing.

We almost lost the last KSU game in 2023 when Quinn was out and Murphy threw a couple of terrible interceptions.  Thankfully Collin Klein is a shitty OC and bailed us out.

I'm referring to the KSU games in 2022 and 2023 as ones where we stalled out badly in the second half, not where we lost.

The Georgia Film Guy on youtube has a break down of Marcel Reed. He starts off saying he respects what Klein does as an OC. Then proceeds to show a bunch of clips of poorly designed plays that are doomed if the primary target is covered. He couldn't tell if Reed can work through progressions because he's never been asked to. As far as I can tell, Klein's offensive philosophy is something along the lines of, "10% of the time it works every time."

My son is now 11 and these past 12 months in his select world (12U) and Little League (11U+12U), we've been around 6-7 kids with "little league arm" which is basically the pre-pubescent version of serious elbow problems. I don't get it. This isn't an overuse thing given all of the pitch count and rest rules for kids these days.
I've heard it's a burgeoning epidemic in high school, even. In the 80's and 90's, it seemed like maybe a couple of guys a year would tear their UCLs and require TJ surgery. Now the Astros alone have like 5-6 guys going through the process.

I’ve read that a lot of people believe it’s the pursuit of velocity.
Posted
The counts in Little League are strictly enforced these days. The same is true for select tournaments. I get the skipping back and forth, so if parents are idiots, I guess that's a factor. I know I don't let my kid pitch more than once a week unless the first appearance was minimal, but he's almost always a starter so that isn't often.

Yeah, but when kids play on more than one team, it may not be enforced. Parents are dumb asses.

I think it is the specialization of these kids. A lot of these kids play baseball almost year round. 30 years ago any decent athlete played 2-3 sports.

This makes me happy. This is a common mistake for NFL guys. Wink Martindale learned it the hard way. Michigan fans were very down on him early and in particular his 3rd down defense. He would dial up NFL blitzes and some receiver would get lost in the secondary. These guys love to exotic and forget they have a talent advantage in 80-90% of their games. I hope Patricia falls into this trap

And Patricia was a terrible NFL DC

The first scrimmage of fall camp gets going here in the next couple of hours.

Scrimmages last roughly two hours. Under Sark, the team typically starts with special teams (punts and kickoffs) when they’re inside DKR like they will be this morning.

Then they typically go 1s vs 2s to start things off before moving to 1s vs 1s and 2s vs 2s, each in multiple eight-play spurts. After that, it’s time for 1s vs 1s and 2s vs 2s.

As part of that session, they focus on situational pieces, including red zone before closing with kicking.

Again, that’s the “typical” order of operations for a Sark-led training camp scrimmage. But he’s also known to change it up at times to keep things fresh.

**

I’m told freshman receivers Kaliq Lockett and Michael Terry have been coming on of late.

Terry’s rate of improvement seems to be outpacing all of the others. However, it’s important to note he also had the farthest to come since he had never really played the position before, so it’s not like he’s jumped to the front of the line.

Lockett and Daylan McCutcheon have separated themselves somewhat from Jamie Ffrench and Terry. But Texas is said to like all of the freshman pass catchers.

Ffrench has a little something special to him, but he may actually end up being a better inside receiver than a true outside one. Lockett’s length has proven to be a real advantage there.

**

I need to come back to something I wrote the other day.

I am not saying definitively that Matthew Caldwell is now the second string quarterback. I am saying I think he’s the odds-on favorite to be such in Columbus.

He is getting to handoffs quicker, has more mobility and is just operating the offense differently than Trey Owens. If it’s a tie ball game or Texas is up by a score or two and Sark needs someone to finish things out, I think Caldwell is likely the best answer at this time. He takes fewer chances, has been in the fire before on the college level, and is the safer pick.

Owens certainly has a bigger arm and is more willing and capable of pushing the ball downfield and into tighter windows.

So, conversely, if it’s the start of a game, or Texas is down in a game, Sark might lean to Owens simply because of that element. Potentially higher risk but also higher reward.

To be clear, I think Texas is lucky to have both.

It’s definitely not somehow about me personally rooting for one over the other. Far from it.

And it’s certainly not about Sark playing favorites. Caldwell and Owens both have Texas on the front of their jerseys, and that’s all that matters.

**

As reported previously, Nick Brooks has moved to right tackle in the wake of Andre Cojoe’s season-ending injury.

Nate Kibble is getting heavy work at right guard while Connor Stroh is now getting a lot of work at left guard.

The two came into camp flip-flopped, with Kibble on the left and Stroh on the right.

**

More coming from the scrimmage later today.

Terry has been improving the most, but he started off behind the other guys, so hasn’t taken the lead. Basically that hes catching up to the other freshman WR.

Ah.  It's not really much of a theory.  Pretty much that Mack and my parents, along with a couple of other folks I know, were all born in that window, and all share the characteristics most commonly associated with the negative stereotype of the "Boomer".  Petulant, entitled, etc..

They also, while not looking like Mack at all, manage to look exactly like Mack via facial expression and mannerisms when speaking.

I was simply pleased to potentially expand the limited dataset of people born in that window who all shared the same 1950s environmental factors and look/speak/act exactly like Mack Brown (minus the accent).

But Lockett and McCutcheon have separated themselves so no Terry is not catching up. And "Ffrench has something special" so are McCutcheon and Lockett really separating themselves? It is kind of a clusterfuck of a writing. Maybe it is saying that Lockett and McCutcheon will be the first ones in to start the season. I think that is as far as I would go. The rest just seems like noise.

Terry’s progress is impressive, but you can’t compare his improvement speed directly to more experienced players, because he started from further behind.

You guys cannot fucking help yourselves. All it takes is one simple idiot showing up to ask a dumb fucking question and then a thread careens off into the ditch and flatlines there for a page or two.

Lost from that article is that he's hearing that Ffrench is going to start getting more looks inside. I can't even figure out if I think that is a good or a bad thing. He's also telling readers what I've been saying this offseason - those guys are taking up a lot of payroll and there's going to be some pressing to get them into games and give them every chance to be a part of the rotation. Whoever doesn't make it will be of the highest portal risk in December and by then, the staff may be okay with that. In the new world, that's just part of the math sometimes with highly rated freshmen.
