How did we end up in a situation where the streaming option is the one with more ads? I hate this timeline.

For giggles, IS dstream just so much more expensive that it isn't worth the analysis. I use it a good bit at family members houses and it is pretty nice.

Note: if you select the record all college football option it does not consider the champion game to be in that category. Basically my only complaint as it caused me to miss the third quarter as I put kids to bed....oh...and sometimes it confuses command center with the main game and it complicates watching later.

again....

I just switched to the ad-tier to see if it is super annoying or just an excuse to look at my phone or take a piss, etc.

Sure they gained 18m subscriber in Dec. How else were people supposed to watch the game?

They also aired some live boxing bullshit in December that a lot of people watched for unknown reasons.

I canceled netflix awhile back...I'm struggling to remember the last show we watched before cancelling and I asked the wife but she doesn't recall either. I just browsed their list of current top shows, and I'd guess The Diplomat S1 was the last one.

I sign up for Hulu + live during the cfb season but there's not much worthwhile to watch there IMO.

We're set for the year with apple tv+ due to their freebie offer through Best Buy - 3 months free, even if you've been a subscriber before, all you need to do is purchase the least expensive item they offer. https://www.bestbuy.com/site/apple-free-apple-tv-for-3-months-new-or-qualified-returning-subscribers-only/6484512.p?skuId=6484512

Switching from AT&T to T-Mobile was the best decision for my streaming needs:

Discounted Netflix ($9.49 savings)
Free Apple TV+ ($9.99 savings)
Free Paramount Plus via T-Mobile home internet ($7.99 savings)

I lost Max when I switched, but I heard AT&T cut that freebie off so I would have been paying for it again regardless.

Now the decision becomes ditching DTV Stream for Hulu Live, but somehow the settings hasn't changed and I still have sneaky access to Space City Network from Denver.

It still works. I have it.

They took away the plan for it though, so I’d lose that if I were to change plans.

Oh good!

“On February 13, 2025, all Paramount channels will likely become unavailable on YouTube TV. If this happens, this will impact previous Library recordings from these channels, Paramount content in the Entertainment Plus package, and add-on services like Paramount+ with SHOWTIME and BET+.”

I see you got the same email I just did.

Of course. And it includes CBS. With the Super Bowl and college football over I was just about to finally switch over to YTTV. Look for me to finally cut the cord at the next millennium.

We’re happy to share that we’ve reached a deal to continue carrying Paramount content on YouTube TV. That means you will continue to have access to Paramount channels, including CBS, CBS Sports, and Nickelodeon, and any recordings in your Library. If you’re subscribed to add-ons like Paramount+ with SHOWTIME, BET+, or the Entertainment Plus package, access to that content also remains uninterrupted.

As a reminder, family managers have the ability to pause or cancel anytime. You can find more information in our Help Center.

With this agreement, YouTube TV will continue to offer 100+ channels, while enabling more user choice in the future. Thank you for your patience as we negotiated on your behalf. As always, we appreciate your YouTube TV membership.

Sincerely,
The YouTube TV team

Email late last night. Figured this was the case, since they never cut them off Thursday night.

It's an expensive android box pre-loaded with IPTV apps. Reddit says it's a hackers dream and a security nightmare. And it's $100 cheaper on Amazon.

You are much better off buying a $50 streaming box and setting up a $15/month IPTV app yourself.

I share my YouTube TV account with my son, who is the account holder.  He lives in Fort Worth and I live in Georgetown.  My question is using a VPN to watch the Astros, if I use my router as my VPN will this mess up my location in YT and not allow me to watch local (Austin) news?  Would I need to activate the VPN during the games and deactivate when I want to watch local channels?

So I am on Hulu Live for local tv. My internet access is thru a cell phone provider via a dynamic gateway. Every time the IP address changes I have to call Hulu and get them to reset my local access for live TV. This fucking sucks. Does anyone know if this will happen with other providers? I’d like to change to someone that doesn’t have such antiquated technology that they can’t tell where I’m at without me telling them every time my service provider resets something.

Still pissed that Fubo TV fucked up the launch of Venu Sports last fall with their lawsuit that eventually resulted in Venu winding down. That was going to be the shit...

ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNews, FS1, and FS2; college sports channels ACC Network, Big Ten Network, ESPNU, and SEC Network; and the three primary WBD cable networks that carry sports coverage: TBS, TNT, and TruTV.[3] It would have also included access to the content of Disney's existing direct-to-consumer sports service ESPN+.[4]

Thats all I need in one streaming service (all sports, none of the other bullshit I never watch) for 42.99. Now Fox One is rumored to be $15 when it launches, you dont get the warner brothers channels and you have to juggle multiple services platforms. that's not progress, that's bullshit,.

Finally.

too bad it says “early fall” and not “late summer.”

sounds like alternative solutions will need to be found the first month of college football.

I get Max (and along with it all Warner sports) through my AT&T cell service.

so just missing Fox Sports and NCS/Peacock but not sure how much they carry that I’ll have a need to subscribe.

Fox Sports will have a stand alone app supposedly coming where you can pay for Fox, FS1 & FS2, and I believe BTN.

Anyone seen a decent and recent list of sports that still require a good old fashioned cable channel subscription? I'm thinking ESPN will be good enough for me to drop YTTV, but I imagine I'm forgetting something.

First thing that comes to mind is any Longhorn out of conference away games in any sport.

I know that the EPL matches shown on USA are not streamed live on Peacock.

What else is in that situation? Seems like all are slowly moving contracts to stream everything aired on networks and cable channels.

Separate from availability, the UI of YTTV is still way better than ESPN+/Peacock/Paramount for sports.

New ESPN streaming service launches 21 Aug.   Available on the app,  don't see how to subscribe or if it will be an option to add to a streaming platform like Roku.  Read in another article DirectTV will offer free in their basic package.   Also,  good to see SECN+ is included.

The arrival of ESPN's standalone streaming service, dubbed ESPN Unlimited, is only weeks away. A new era of watching sports through ESPN and Disney will launch on Thursday, August 21st, but it won't come cheap.

Specifically, those who opt for ESPN Unlimited and pay $30 per month will enjoy the full breadth of ESPN's sports programming. Some of those include ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, SEC Network (SECN), ACC Network (ACCN), ESPNEWS, and ESPN Deportes, as well as programming from ESPN on ABC. Then, this full-scale service gets you access to ESPN+, along with ESPN3, SECN+, and ACCNX.

Sling is doing day and weekend passes this year (for the Orange package only, which is ESPN but not Fox Sports).

$5 for a day, $10 for a weekend. You can add add-ons (i.e., SEC Network) at a prorated price apparently.

Sling TV Launches New Options with New $4.99 Day Pass, $9.99 Weekend Pass, and $14.99 Week Pass

Quote

In a bold move to reshape how viewers consume live television, Sling TV, the pioneer of flexible live streaming, has unveiled an industry-first trio of short-term streaming options: the $4.99 Day Pass, $9.99 Weekend Pass, and $14.99 Week Pass. Launched just in time for the 2025 football season, these offerings mark a significant evolution in Sling’s mission to deliver fan-first, contract-free streaming solutions that prioritize affordability and control. Since shaking up the TV industry in 2015, Sling TV is once again breaking the mold, giving consumers the freedom to watch live sports, entertainment, and news without the burden of long-term commitments.

The new passes are designed to align with real-life viewing habits, offering instant access to Sling’s robust lineup of channels for as little as 24 hours or up to a full week. “This launch is about putting control back in the hands of the fans, whether it’s tuning in for college football, professional sports, award shows, or a spontaneous movie night, all without having to sign a long-term, binding contract,” said Seth Van Sickel, Senior Vice President of Product and Operations at Sling TV. “With college football just around the corner, our new Day Pass offering is all consumers need to win on game day, for just $4.99.”

The Day Pass, priced at $4.99, provides 24 hours of access, making it ideal for catching a single game, an awards show, or an impromptu movie night. The $9.99 Weekend Pass, running from Friday to Sunday, caters to fans craving a full weekend of back-to-back football games, movie marathons, or binge-worthy shows. For those needing extended access, the $14.99 Week Pass offers seven days of streaming, perfect for playoff weeks, school breaks, or diving into a new series. All passes include live and on-demand content from popular Sling Orange channels like ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN3, TNT, A&E, TBS, Disney Channel, Comedy Central, History Channel, CNN, and more.

To enhance customization, Sling TV allows users to add Sling Extras—specialized channel packages like Sports Extra, News Extra, Entertainment Extra, Hollywood Extra, Lifestyle Extra, Heartland Extra, and Kids Extra—for as little as $1 for the Day Pass, $2 for the Weekend Pass, and $3 for the Week Pass. This flexibility ensures viewers can tailor their experience to their specific interests, whether it’s extra sports coverage or family-friendly programming.

“Built for the way people actually watch TV today, our new passes put viewers in control,” Van Sickel added. “For just $4.99, fans can dive into live sports, trending shows, or special events with no strings attached. It’s instant access, ultimate flexibility, and an unbeatable value.” As consumer demand for cost-effective, commitment-free streaming grows, Sling TV’s innovative passes position the service as a game-changer in the industry, especially as football season kicks off.

With these new offerings, Sling TV continues to challenge traditional streaming and cable models, empowering viewers to watch what they want, when they want, without breaking the bank. Whether it’s a single game or a week of entertainment, Sling’s passes deliver a fresh, fan-focused way to experience live TV.
