Why are they even asking? Mosley hasn't practiced consistently in a couple weeks now, and was already going to be behind the other guys who have practiced. And we think Sarks letting him into the trust tree on game one against Ohio State? OK.

I know Les. He's a great guy and loves Texas. I think he'd fight Shawn Watson right now if the two of them ended up in the same room.

Friends with Les as well (he grew up with my older brother) and this is probably true. A lot of people on here disliked him  when he coached here (not when he played here) and maybe he was too old when he got here - but his dad was a great high school coach so I find it hard to believe he didn’t have some of the same qualities.

Personally I think the game will come down to qb play. No one on the planet would take Sayin over Manning if they had the straight up choice. But you never know until you see it on the field. So let’s see what happens Saturday.

I think whichever OL performs best (pass pro and opening holes for RBs) will be the largest determinant of the game's outcome, but one could directly correlate that to QB play. I don't have a problem with saying their OL has, on paper, an edge over ours until we actually have enough live footage to tell us otherwise, but I believe they have a tougher DL to face. On the flip side, our OL will have to contend with crowd noise unless we can take the crowd out of it early, so they have to be super disciplined and focused.

Likewise, avoiding turnovers and keeping penalties to a minimum.

I'll also add, that while I love blocked punts, roughing the kicker penalties make me livid and I sometimes wonder if on balance, attempting to block punts hasn't cost us more than we gained from the successes. I've not ever tried to tally it up though. I'll add getting caught by obvious fake punt situations to that list.

So, tOSU has a big game experience edge over the Texas team they played against in getting big game experience? JFC. Idiots.

As said repeatedly, Texas has 12 returning starters and a lot of others who have played significant time for a team who went on the road to the Big House against the defending champs and beat them last year.

Big road games aren't something Sark has issues with

Some of my keys for Texas

1. Have to stop the run with honest boxes. It is a death sentence to have to bring down a safety vs OSU.

2. Need to have an efficient run game. Texas doesnt have to run for 200 yards but they need to average around 4 yards a carry. Do enough to keep OSU defense honest. Not expecting Texas dominate the LOS on offense.

3. Sark needs to adjust. Sark hates playing "junk" defenses. He likes to know the rules of defense and take advantage of them (his words). Not sure what Patricia will run and he has had all offseason to work on this game plan. Possible he does not run what Sark expects. Can Sark adjust?

The adjustment piece is key. Need to be able to go off script.

RZ improvement necessary as well.

Exactly - establish the run, and stop the run.  The primary key for each team, IMO.

I got put in time out by Katy on Hornfans circa 2003-ish because I said Les would make a good addition to our staff. She said I had earned my suspension because we didn't have any open positions, and it would require someone being fired. And wishing for someone to be fired was against the site rules. I really can't believe any of us happily hung out there for as long as we did.

I know TX certainly has talented players and might do just fine at OL - I'm just responding to the poster who seemed to think the OSU line was completely revamped.  The only loss from the CFP line was Jackson - which was a big one of course, but the other returnees all showed out well last year.  I think the bigger issue for OSU is replacing both the OC and the OL position coach - that has potential to really screw things up for a while.  I think OL coach Frye did an incredible job last season....and apparently the NFL thought so too.

A running veteran QB is going to make help any OL look better than they are.  While the current guys may be talented and may be returning from your playoff run, most of them do not have extensive in game experience.  If you look at their starting experience, it's basically what Texas is trotting out there, except 4 of our starting 5 have been in the same program 3-4 years.  Yet you don't see us claiming "best ol evar".  OSU also has a 6'0, 190 lb freshman QB that is functional in the pocket but by no means a running threat to keep alive against possibly the best front 7 in the country and the best group of pass rushers.  You also just lost 2 of the most talented RBs in college football last year.  I don't know if Peoples or the WVU Rb start over Wisner and Baxter here.  Pray you are able to run the ball because if you cannot, this game is not going to be close.

I don't know who Dan Hope is, but at least he can make an honest assessment unlike your shit for brains fans. Most think our new starters at OL and DL are a bunch of Freshmen. "Overall, Texas has a few more players who are already proven in starting roles than Ohio State'". I'm floored anyone associated with the Fuckeyes typed that. At least he raises the average IQ of the Fuckeye fan base by about 20 points.

These teams are really close, but I'll be honest too and give the advantage to the home team.

That'll free up Moore, Hill, Burke, etc.

I know that may be frustrating to Simmons, at times, but we should be able to take advantage of it.

Starting with the Alabama road trip, I began viewing other team site previews and score predictions. Alabama fans all had it being 20+ points and being over by the 3rd quarter, and their analysis was laughably simplistic because the goggles were so thick they could not see anything other than crimson. Michigan previews weren't confident, with many feeling it would take some luck to win the game because it couldn't be done straight up.

Ohio folks have been a mix; Tim May is a homer and aggy, so he blows smoke up his own ass. Most try to be somewhat fair, within the realm of what their fan base will allow. They'll state what they feel are the unknowns or Texas advantages but then say they have better talent and back it up with examples that make OH look very good. OH fans strike me as thin-skinned, like aggy but not at their level, and OH actually wins things. Even the article you posted here has the same OH journalistic tone - "I must say something nice to avoid getting the OH fans' panties in a wad".

Quote

On paper, the position matchups suggest that Texas could have a slight advantage over Ohio State in Saturday’s season opener. But the Buckeyes will aim to mitigate that advantage with their star power, big-game experience, and a home crowd of 105,000-plus behind them.

What fans from other teams need to understand is that, other than Bobby Burton (the ultimate pessimist) and his team, the local media here feels an obligation to shit on the team at all times and in every way they can. Therefore, when others come to see how we're doing, they think we are in worse shape than unbiased analysis would suggest.

Texas fans are more confident than OH fans, who predict a 3-6 point margin, while Texas fans commonly predict a 10-point margin. To me, this is the most telling as to which team has the better chance of winning this game because fans are usually as unrealistic as Alabama fans, but these two fan bases have stated their realistic conclusions. Saturday will now write the story.

Bobby stuff. Holy shit on Stroh. And Littleton has to be the true freshman mentioned.

Hearing more and more about offensive lineman Connor Stroh having a very strong fall camp. Stroh has started running some with the 1s on a regular basis, even when Neto Umeozulu is not pushed out to tackle. Stroh’s size and ability to move some of the bigger Texas DLs has caught the eyes of coaches.

Umeozulu has been very physical in camp. But Stroh’s size is just hard to overcome, especially as Texas looks to deploy a somewhat different run scheme this season.

We don’t know what the exact rotation will be - whether Stroh has outright won the job or if he will spell Umeozulu - but suffice to say Stroh is expected to see action on Saturday barring something unforeseen.

**

Defensive tackle Travis Shaw has shown glimpses of extreme talent in fall camp. But he’s also apparently been inconsistent at times.

Texas needs 20-30 consistent snaps from Shaw this season.

**

While I don’t want to say who, I believe there will be a true freshman in the starting lineup Saturday.

**

Quarterback Matthew Caldwell continues to run with the 2s this week.

I liked Stroh as a recruit and he is enormous. But weren't we consistently told that his feet are a problem? That he's not quick and lacks good balance? Maybe that matters less at guard than tackle, but I don't love that note.

sanity check: the pocket dimension erected by jort nation this week has yet to explain the michigan game or their performance against us in the semi and how either of those games is a forecast for jort victory on saturday

against michigan, AT THE SHOE, howard managed a qb rating of 57 going 19 for 33 for 175, 1 td, 2 picks

the amazing tosu offensive line that's returning 'starters' and is 'clearly' a tosu advantage, managed to pave the way for a running game that managed 77 yards on 26 carries at 3.0 ypc

they put up TEN POINTS on a cold sunny afternoon with 10mph wind AT HOME

then they got in a fight after the game - classy

against us in the semi howard clearly did much better: a rating of 97 on 24 for 33 for 289, 1 td, 1 pick

but again, this amazing 'returning' offensive line managed to road-grade the Horns for an all-galaxy production of 81 yards on 24 carries at 3.4 ypc

take away the henderson 75-yard fluke screen and 24 for 32 for 209 and 1 pick produces a howard rating of 80

I really think this post needs to be split into even more paragraphs, especially with no capital letters at the beginning of each.

While that rep looked silly, we don’t know the exact assignment on the call and he did create enough of a push/delay so that the DT was out of the play.

That said, this is not the type of news we want to hear the week before the season starts. If Stroh was actually “turning heads” instead of just being a slightly less worse option, we would have heard more chatter about it, similar to Graceson Littleton at star.

All of the attention from opponents will surely frustrate at times, but I am confident Simmons will still post big numbers. I feel like natural and instinctive pass rushers are one of those groups in sports who always wind up getting theirs over the course of a season.

A Bucknuts reporter fielding questions gave his QB comparison thoughts:

Spoiler

navey: How big an advantage, if any, does Manning & Texas have compared to Sayin & OSU in this game, especially since it's the first game of the season?

Mark Porter: Manning has more experience having played some meaningful games in 2024. Sayin only had a few snaps in 2024 and he has a new offensive coordinator in 2025.vHaving a new offensive coordinator means their could be growing pains that are not his fault. Of course if you consider Ryan Day as the DEFACTO OC than nothing has changed.

Edge to Sayin playing at OSU, crowd noise should hurt Manning more than him.

Texas has a new Defensive line, how will the OSU offensive line handle them, this could make Sayin's life easy. Will Howard was the least sacked QB in college football last year, will that continue?

Texas and Arch Manning hold some early advantages—particularly around experience, mental toughness, system familiarity, and defensive readiness. But Ohio State counters with tangible home-field support and a swagger from their national champion confidence.

At its core, the game may come down to execution: Can Sayin rise to the occasion? Or will Manning show he's ready to lead Texas into the spotlight? Expect a tight, high-drama opener where QB performance and early rhythm could set the tone for the season.

Yeah, if it's not Littleton, there would have to be an undisclosed injury we don't know about, like DeAndre Moore or Jags. Off the top of my head I can't think of anyone else in the two-deep. Maybe Brooks but who the hell knows what's happening there.

I'm hearing Livingstone is taking the first snap at QB. That's probably why, just a technicality.

I've asked about Brooks and I think your theory is correct. 3 different groups have confirmed that they know of no injury and that he's also not getting any run for PT in the Ohio State game.

While it would be hilarious if Lockett just straight up beat out Jaggy to start in game 1, the guy Bobby is referencing is almost certainly Littleton.

To me, the advantage for Arch is that he's seen an elite rush come at him, and Sayin hasn't. As the video shows, the home crowd doesn't save you from it. Arch has seen elite game speed pinning its ears back and coming at him, and it won't be new to him, but it will be new to Sayin. Arch has made both bad throws and good throws knowing he's about to be hit, and he hasn't been rattled. Sayin, on the other hand, hasn't had to do so, and no one knows how he'll react. We all hated what happened here, but the sequence in the video will pay dividends for us on Saturday.

You previously said 4 of 5 OL guys were back or something along those lines.  Fryar and Jackson were #1 and 3 in terms of play snaps last year for your entire offense.  One 3 -year starter, one a 2-year starter.

As best I can tell, your 4 guys never started or really played at the same time.

At DB, Williams for us prior to injury was heavily involved in the safety rotation for two years.  Then McDonald as far as reps/years in the program tracks Mathews experience on your side.

I did not see this clarified.
