This will get ugly with the negativity that the Rs will go after.

will be a bloodbath

Beto should just turn around and use this for his own good. "I get that. I get that my opponent is going to have a ton of outside PAC money come in and try to paint me in a bad light.  I'm not going to call my opponent a pathetic wussy.  I'm not going to suggest that he has the scruples of a mafia hit man. I'm not going to say that he looks like a decomposing vampire. I'm going to stay positive, talk about ideas and inclusion and, if that doesn't do it for me and if outside money from New Jersey convinces Texans to vote for a Canadian, then let the chips fall where they may.

Can't lie - the fact that this is probably just the first of multiple massive money blitzes is a little disheartening and is definitely a bit of a reality check after such a big week. Texas is home to big numbers of exactly the kind of low info voters that the kinds of petty, negative, largely bullshit ads are meant to work on. That Dallas Observer article was right - if a voter out there doesn't know who Beto is by now, they are probably going to bite on ads like this.

That said, I am glad he is feeling the heat. It's confirmation that this is working. That it's different. I chipped in another $25 (not shaggy surly 1%) tonight, and it only takes 39,999 like minded folks to do the same to hit seven figures. The campaign will need the resources, and as many have said throughout the campaign, making the Rs spend time and money to hold TX is already significant in in the grand scheme of things.

Page is to the hilt full of beggars who never left high school and their dreams of Cool Kids Club status.

The oncoming ass-kick is cringey to take in.  Super sorry socialists, you may be verby AF on here and other social media, take note, your silent elders will save you from your stupid asses once again.

It's amazing how yall drip with it.

39,996.   And honestly, I think this is going to backfire on Cruz.  I think every PAC dollar they spend trying to shore up his base will stir up the undecideds and younger voters who are tired of politics as usual.   I feel Cruz is going to wake a sleeping giant with all this outside money.  It is playing right into Beto's hands.

The pragmatic part of me says this:

  • Beto and Co. have most likely been planning on Cruz going negative for quite a while.  They know Cruz's history and are most likely ready.
  • All of those hundreds of town halls across Texas have thrown just about every conceivable question at Beto that you can imagine, including ones from Republicans, so Beto and Co. are going to have a response for just about anything.
  • Negative campaigning, in Ted's case, is probably more about just trying to get his actual base out to vote and donate money than anything else.  Many folks in Texas already have their minds made up about Ted, and those Rs who are looking to Beto are probably not going to be influenced by negative ads (they wouldn't be looking at Beto in the first place if keeping them was as simple as an ad buy).
  • Ted Cruz going negative really hard - how does that help him with women?  It doesn't.  Speaking of women, there's probably more than one Republican gal in Texas who wonders why the fuck he didn't fully stick up for Heidi when Trump was trashing her.  Women notice that stuff.
  • If Ted goes really hard on the negative campaigning, it's going to reek of desperation, and people notice that.  Negative campaigning like that is not a "power" or a "alpha" move, it's a move that shows a huge lack of confidence in your own platform, abilities, and your base.
  • All of Ted's negative campaigning is going to raise Beto's name recognition substantially.  This is actually really stupid on Ted's part, because if people start taking a look at Beto's twitter and Facebook, and see huge crowds and Beto staying positive about Texas, while Cruz is filled with petty little sniping, Beto comes out looking better.

McIntosh said it had not been determined when the Club’s campaign would begin. But he said it would focus heavily on casting O’Rourke as an establishment figure who, contrary to the non-political and outsider persona he’d cultivated, was eager to climb the ranks of political power.

So casting Beto as the bizarro Ted Cruz? Good luck with that.

You're kidding.  90%✓ Hillary you may should be less stupid.

There is no electoral college in Senate races, Snax. Midland, Abilene and Tyler don't have electors. It's a simple up or down majority. I wouldn't be so cocky if I were you. And I wouldn't be so proud of voting like an aggy either.

I think the Beto strategy of staying positive is a great idea.

I also think that Beto needs an attack-dog surrogate.  Some legit, no-shit Texan that isn't afraid to roll around in the mud with Cruz, but allows Beto to remain above it all.

Somebody needs to call Cruz an fucking pussy motherfuckng Canadian.  Somebody needs to question his very questionable manhood.  Beto isn't the guy.  Where's Kinky when we need him?

I think people are sick of all the bullshit. Seeing a bunch of cunty ads supporting Cruz and going negative on Beto are just going to turn more people to Beto. I’m so sick of this dork representing Texas.

I wish that was true, but every election in the history of forever says otherwise.

Could you imagine what Ann Richards would do to Cruz?   Or Molly Ivins?

They preached to the choir. They rallied the troops, but they didn't necessarily win over the independents / independents who didn't feel like voting. And they sure as hell didn't get Republicans to pass on voting due to witty/entertaining/spot-on criticism of a Republican candidate.

I'd like to see Troy Aikman go all in against Cruz. Maybe Dick Cheney as well. Just some white bread mo'fo's. Maybe the cast of "Iron Resurrection" wears BETO shirts in a couple of their episodes. (Though I do suspect that "Joe Martin" of Martin Bros. shop perhaps might have been José Martín, but I doubt that that has even occurred to most of the viewers.)

Something has Cruz really spooked, and it’s not money.  At the end of the day, Cruz knows that no matter how much he may be disliked here and back in Washington, there are plenty of people with lots of money who will not easily give up a Senate seat.  Especially a Senate seat that shouldn’t even be contested, and especially when Trump could find himself impeached.

For the first time, I just went and scrolled through Cruz’s twitter and then Beto’s. The difference in tone is striking. The negativity coming from Ted is honestly overwhelming.

if you go over to the political board at Texags the tone is very similar. It's so completely negative. it depressing.

It's a damn good choice by Beto and staff for him to wear shirts that don't hide his perspiration. He's working hard & sweating his ass off to meet the citizens of Texas and listen to their concerns. Emphasize the effort. Let people know you're proud and able to work hard.

i wonder how many Blue Oxford shirts Beto has gone through. This summer heat must have taken a toll.
