I don't care what your politics are; at some point, as a parent, it's gotta feel disheartening and gross to have your son's murder be used by disgusting people to grift and posture.

I’m guessing they did something separately small and private for family.

In any case, I don’t blame them for not wanting to speak in public after watching their son/sibling/friend assassinated in a large public setting.

If my funeral contains fireworks, donation requests, and people giving speeches about how much they hate other people, please take solace in knowing that I am much happier dead.

Why are you shitting on a Frank Costanza wake?

what he did for dying is probably way more impactful than creating Festivas.

So much more cathartic to air your grievances at a funeral than at Christmas time.

On Trump giving a preview of an autism prevention option, how weird is it for a president to gate keep a supposed “cure” by promising to talk about it tomorrow. Didn’t he want to help mothers who might create an autistic youth on Sunday?

And to think, people call him a conman.

“I have in this here wagon, the cure to whatever ails you….”

Yeah, they've got polling out on Charlie Kirk since the shooting.  Turns out most young people hated his ass and it was only the 65+ boomer age demo who had a positive view on him.  Surprise fucking surprise.  Only a quarter of the people polled were very familiar with him.  Most hardly knew anything about him and didn't give a shit.

Also, on a side note, Trump is underwater bigly across the board in this poll.

Awesome. That'll stop the daily assaults on the Constitution.

For all the squawking about how Kirk and TPUSA revolutionized (or some shit) the youth vote, in the interview with your Governor GCN, they shifted 13% of the white male under 25 vote.

While that is certainly statistically and electorally significant, in the grand scheme, shows that Kirk's popularity and influence in that demo isn't as overwhelming as it has been made to seem.

I think the reason olds like him, in addition to just liking everything MAGA, is that they suspect that they're old, out of touch, and wrong, but ol' Chuck gave em a youth voice that countered their suspicion, just like blacks and latinos for Trump assuage the nagging feeling that they're being racists.

Plus, the olds are more likely to only see the sanitized versions of Charlie that don't include all his greatest hits of being a giant piece of shit.

Not to get all conspiracy theory and whatnot, but this is one of the reasons a lone leftist gunman kinda struck me as odd to be the killer.  Why the fuck would a leftist/transgender adjacent person kill Charlie?  He's one of a zillion of right-wing grifter fucks.  In fact, he was one of the dumbest ones that routinely got his ass handed to him and made himself and Trump/MAGA look like fools.  The only reason Kirk had any sway whatsoever was because he was backed by billionaire money.  Nobody gave a fuck about this guy.  Except for some loony tunes people even further right than him and maybe some interested dark money donors, of course.

Being a racist isn't a matter of popular opinion. Especially when "half the country" are pretty avowed racists themselves.

Biden said he thought of Robert Byrd (former KKK member) as a mentor. Among other things….

Kamala literally used his past comments against him in her campaign so I don’t really wanna hear all this shit.

What the fuck does that have to do with Charlie Kirk? On the topic of Biden, Charlie Kirk said that he deserved to be put to death.

Is your point here that America is racist and that’s ok by you?  It’s the only point I can put together from your comment.

TBH that sounds about par for driving on I-10. Folks are getting worse at driving

I contend that driving has gotten exponentially worse since Covid.  I'm not sure if the lack of driving for a few months made everyone forget the rules or if people just stopped giving a shit about the rules, but my god I hate driving now.

It permeates everything.  What is "it?"  Our toxic individualism at the expense of -- and in purposeful opposition to -- any other possible ethos.  "ME ME ME."  Our national ethos now is 100% "I'm the only person in the world."  Take that attitude, and see how you drive.  And shop.  And treat your neighbor or co-worker.  Etc. etc. ad infinitum.

We are literally governed by a movement that has its "leaders" repeatedly and consistency condemning empathy as "evil."  Any idea or thought that hmmm, maybe we should do something in furtherance of the common good?  Not only is it not supported, it's attacked as COMMUNIST SOCIALISM MARXIST COMMUNIST SOCIALISM!!!!

It all comes down to "the individual is god, the community is the enemy."  Install that belief system as your OS, and you get all the shit that's gotten to be truly awful this past decade or so.

Not to derail further, but the thing that stands out to me the most is people will just pull out in front of you at any time.  I'll be going down Burnet at 45mph and someone will pull out of a parking lot when I'm 30 yards away.  Just go right ahead pal.  I could just t-bone the shit out of you, but oh well.

Normally this person flicks me off when I hit my brakes and my horn. Oh sorry, would you have preferred I smash into you because of what you did?

Perfect example.

When someone pulls an asshole maneuver like that, ask yourself "is that what someone who is the only person in the world would do?"  99% of the time, it's a quick "yep, that's exactly what they'd do."

You do not exist.  You do not matter at all.  Because you are not ME, the only person who matters.

Yeah, or lane changes. Really though I am basing it more on empirical data, literally every morning there are multiple wrecks, not hyperbole. I read somewhere it's like up 30% or something over historical averages in the past few years.

Spent a few hours yesterday driving from Portland to Seattle and what I noticed was the amount of people who felt that they should be able to go 10-15 mph faster than general traffic and had the elite driving skills and clairvoyance for what other drivers were about to do, to weave around at 85+ mph in their Tesla or Ram with precious few feet of clearance.

We need a massive, nation-wide education on basic "civics."  It doesn't have to be complicated.  It's a very short course.

1) Realize that there are other people out there, everywhere, just like you.

2) Don't be a dick to them.

There, done.

And if you proposed that simple lesson, say, to be taught in our schools, you would be fucking burned at the stake in 2025 America as a demon-possessed commie right from the pits of hell.

My daughter just finished a vacation making that same drive. She said practically the same thing.

For reals.

My wife and I emphasize one thing to our son. If you can be anything, be kind.

I roadtripped out there with my buddies and again with my wife in '13 and '16. I remember thinking Oregonians all drove like grandmas compared to the psychopaths in Texas cities.

We're big on "be kind."  Our son has an oversized heart, he beats himself up for not being kind enough.

But nation-wide, at this stage, I don't need us to achieve "be kind."  I'd be perfectly happy with "just acknowledge that other humans exist and act with a modicum of courtesy."  You don't have to go out of your way to be kind....just don't be a dick.  That alone would be a HUGE social improvement....which is opposed with every fiber of their being by our entire dominant leadership class.

my bigger pet peeve is when folks aren't paying attention and form rolling roadblocks going 5-10MPH under the limit on the highway. It's ALWAYS some idiot on their phone not paying attention and just hugging the blind spot of the person in front of them, and when you try to pass them they speed up to block you. Once you finally get past them, they slow back down and go back into passive following mode, it's infuriating.

I feel like there would be less rage driving and speed demons if traffic would just fucking FLOW, but people are dead set on driving in formation it feel like

TBF, drivers along that corridor drive painfully slow and the speed limit is oppressive.

So?  Byrd also stated it was the "greatest mistake of his life", he was "immature and had tunnel vision".   He used racist language late in life as well.  See here is the thing, we venerate our Founding Fathers as well, many of whom were racists and slave owners.  But, I suppose the bothsiderisms is all about linking Biden to racist, despite what we have seen with him and the Obama's.   You try to trash his legacy because, he helped unfuck the country after you elected a moron and that will always be the facts that bother you.  That your political party is bad at business, bad at warfare, and bad at domestic policy.  Your party is only good at rigging elections through a variety of techniques.

But in the end, you know damn well which party the modern klan, american nazis all vote for.  You know which party uses religion as a cudgel instead of building a community.  You know which party would earn the scorn of Jesus, because they defile his name with their actions.

It’s 70 for much of it.  The issue, at least yesterday, for me was that it’s only 2 lanes each way and the right lane gets bogged down by semis and people pulling trailers that top out at 60-65. So you can’t bop along there at 75 and leave the left lane for the speed merchants.  Most people doing that get in and stay in the left lane, leaving the go fast people to either slow down and seethe, or try to fit through like they’re on a nascar short track.

3 types of drivers, two lanes to share. Math doesn’t math.

Here's the thing that just doesn't work for all the "CHARLIE KIRK WAS NOT A RACIST!!!" folks: if Charlie wasn't a racist/white supremacist....why do all the white supremacists and racists love him so much?

Rallies after his death had people chanting "white power."

That MAGA rapper dude, immediately after Kirk's death, put out a song literally extolling the virtues of lynching.  Dude was at Kirk's memorial, commanded an audience outside.

Maybe YOU don't think that Kirk was a white supremacist....but all the white supremacists sure do.  So....yeah.  He was a bad person who thought and sold bad ideas that were rooted in and fed white supremacy.  If that's the movement you want to associate yourself with so passionately, if you are happy to be on team "hang 'em up high at sundown" and think “we ought to do it like they did it way back in the day because grandaddy’s way works best,” referring to getting a "tall tree and a sort rope," then just fucking own it already.

@Enchubben @Texasborn91

To validate Brisket's point that White Supremacists thought Charlie was one of them. Here is Nick Fuentes acknowledging Kirk as one.

I mean, I gotta tell ya.....if I was a public figure who regularly spoke on matters of race, and at my memorial, there were numerous people mourning and praising me because of my persona and reputation built on the subject matter on which I spoke, and those are folks who ALSO did things like released an album called "Make America White Again," and sang songs in praise of lynchings, and there were a shitload of other folks chanting shit like "white men fight back" in my memory....well, my ghost would sure as FUCK be reconsidering my life and choices.  Because if you lived your life in a way that white supremacists specifically mourn your death and use it as a rallying cry to their cause.....you PROBABLY lived your life in a really, really shitty way.

My dad taught me to look for signs of when someone is going to switch lanes.  Don't just trust turn signals but use it in conjunction with other behaviors, such as where they are positioning themselves in a lane, etc.
