Also, I'm not an expert on these online communities, but I think there's a lot of daylight between those who wear animal ears or animal onesies as a cutesie thing, and actual furries.  As in thatguy's daughter.

it is funny to hear these brokeback texas maga christains be so quiet when we quote them to themselves.   texas progressives?   yes.   texas democrats? bring that back.   MAGA - kick rocks!    or, make an arguement better than that aggy kirk.   lol

Please just stop quoting this poster. They post solely to get attention. Have some dialogue with posters here that argue in good faith (I know, I know.) and add something positive to the discussion or at least something worth debating about.

There’s some humor in his current schtick. He’s just imitating his personal hero.

Jesus people.  This isn't hard.  Bullets do yaw and pitch, but there has to be enough mass in the target to impact the amount of loaded kinetic energy in the projectile.  All round produce kinetic energy based upon both their mass and velocity.  Pistol rounds will often have more mass, but significantly less velocity.  A 30-06 has both.  It's a big, fast round.  Even here a shot in the neck, even with modern hollow-points, etc won't expand unless it hits something dense enough to offset it's velocity.  In this case, it clearly passes straight through, but because the neck is a bundle of nerves and veins, it's catastrophic and the dump of kinetic energy and cavitation which you can clearly see is what cause the damage.

This is what happens.  This is why he flinched.  This is why his shirt flew up.  This is why his neck was shredded despite the high probability that the round passed straight through without expanding

bullet-gelatin-slow-moiton.gif?resize=49

So turns out this was bullshit.

There was no exit wound.  I guess Charlie Kirk had a spine made out of steel.  Those .30-06 bullets will obliterate the bones of deer and elk, but not Charlie Kirk's!

this is so powerful to me. I will leave my other thoughts about what it means to be a Christian a true Christian in the appropriate thread. I am reading the tea leaves and reading the gossip online that she doesn’t want the Death Penalty for the man who murdered Charlie. If that’s true, based on her remarks about forgiving him today, I would hope that her wishes are honored here. Hate only brings more hate. Truth. Once a crime has pretty much been solved I move onto the next one.

but to me it is always so powerful when a loved one of a murder victim is able to forgive the murderer. Allowing that hate and anger to take hold (and I’ve seen it personally destroy people) so for the sake of her kids I think it’s a profoundly important step to being able to move forward. Jmo. I doubt I will post in this thread again unless there are crime developments. I ain’t changing anyone’s mind and people ain’t gonna change mine. I just have seen knowing people who have lost someone to murder take one of two paths: hanging onto hare and anger and sorrow or choosing to forgive. And how those choices impact them going forward and their families.

Careful. You’re pretty close to the sort of rhetoric which can draw unwanted attention. Rhetoric Matthew Dowd probably regrets.

Hateful thoughts lead to hateful words, which then lead to hateful actions,” Dowd said, adding: “You can’t stop with these sort of awful thoughts you have and then saying these awful words and then not expect awful actions to take place.”

i haven’t watched any of the coverage of her, but this kind of public statement if accurately reported is what we need. Bravo to her for saying it even if some people don’t think she is sincere

I've never been through anything like this but I am fascinated by family members who forgive a murderer.  I've seen people interviewed, and I always think they are better people than me because I don't think I could truly do it.

If she has forgiven him, that is impressive and if she truly hasn't, well, I don't blame her and I'm not going to hold it against her.

Easy to say she is merely saying what is expected from someone who professes her faith. Yes, her initial combative comments were unhinged, but under the circumstances, not dispositive. Give the woman the benefit of the doubt. True believers are our allies.

This. I'd give someone in her situation the leeway to say whatever the fuck she feels like saying. But a week to come off the "we're at war with 'them' for unknown reasons to who knows what end" messaging is certainly welcome and shows grace.

I always kinda tap-danced around him because he’s exceptionally quick with the personal vitriol. Then he usually chides people he thinks he’s superior to. The most intelligent person in the room never has to attempt to remind you of their brilliance. People who do that are never among the smartest folks in society.

Between that repetitive act and intentionally staking out positions on obscure things, as well as positions diametrically opposed by most of the people posting here is, well,  just not cool. Quoting and responding to those posts just encourages that behavior.

I watched the memorial; it really was a beautiful send off and the wife Erica especially was really moving in her strength and forgiveness. Say what you will, but I do believe they try/tried to be Christians to the best that they knew how or were taught and thought was the right way. At least that's what my take away was.

I haven’t had a chance to read everyone’s responses…and I should be putting this in the Christ followers thread so my bad…but The NY Times is quoting her as saying she fears putting his killer’s death on her ledger and that will keep her from reuniting with Charlie in Heaven. So many of us believe this. This idea that bloodlust or revenge or wanting death for another human will keep us from seeing our loved ones. So powerful, but I think if anyone can calm down the rhetoric it’s her. I saw the overwhelming response to her and many but not all of these people will listen to her. Will follow her example.

as @troph has said: it takes a woman to do this. No offense to you dudes. But most of us ladies do not wish to see more death. And destruction. And revenge. And riots and hate to persist. I bet she has to forgive Charlie’s every half hour. That takes a level of control that is hard. But it is so much better for the country and for her own self and her kids for her to do this.  Impressive,

As usual, it had to be about him

She should have been the one to close out. To finish. To be the last word. Her last words were actually the message people needed to hear and to follow that then got buried under a political rally type speech. She should have been the final word that people heard as they exited. It was far more powerful her saying she forgave his killer as a message to leave with the audience with. I am glad the media picked up on her statement and made sure it was emphasized. Over all else. That was said. This will be a topic in churches on Sunday and at water coolers and dinner tables. It has a profound effect,

Like I said earlier, getting to know family members of people who have been murdered, forgiveness frees them. I don’t know how else to describe it, the ones don’t forgive—I have witnessed families and people just completely fall apart. So that should have been the message that people were left with. Not a political speech. 🎤

off my soapbox. Forgiveness is so hard. But it’s necessary. Not because someone DESERVES forgiveness but because it is necessary imo. Sorry I went all religion up in here. I was just blown away she did that. It’s so damned important.

Problem: to take your position requires that you believe her.

You should not believe her.  The entire movement is about grievance, punishment of the other, and revenge.  Believe them when they tell you who they are, over and over and over and over and over.

It’s true that I cannot know what’s in her heart. I can only have hope. This is her first chance to lead. I know in her marriage she supported her husband. He led the movement. She was the supportive wife backing him up. Now she is a widow.

Like loads of First Ladies of the US many hold different views and opinions privately than their President husbands. Once they leave office we later learn that they have many different opinions that do not match their husbands.

I have no idea what private thoughts she had. Or has. I am sure those will also evolve over time. one thing is clear the Turning Point stuff belongs to her now. Whether people will follow her is another thing entirely if she blazes a completely different trail.

This is her first chance to lead. I am giving her grace to see what the movement looks like under her leadership. She is taking the mantle. what will it look like? She may have very different opinions that evolve over time now that she has been put in charge.

Philosophically or spiritually, you're beliefs are not wrong, but they won't let her lead shit. My evidence? They just hijacked her personal grief and weaponized it to advance a cause whose gospel is hate, and turned his memorial into a political rally where she doesn't get the final word. And that word is antithetical to the teachings of her religion. Or, on the other hand, she's simply parroting the Good Word for show, while going along with everything that Jesus stood against.

This is my concern dude. I want her to be given a chance to lead. Politically everyone is notating the overwhelming response to his death. And the number of requests for chapters. It’s foolish I guess to assume or want to have hope that the powers that be on both sides will truly ever allow my sex to lead jackshit,

what did the Kirks ever to besides start a neo white power youth club?   Did Charlie ever evolve new thinking?   All I saw was a dummy who only knew how to interrupt and go back to the 3 things he learned in sunday school.  Listen to any of his messaging and replace Jesus with Bob Stoops and you will see what I mean.

These are people who manipulate their religion to match their politics when they should be modifying their politics to match their religion. Christianity teaches we are ALL God's children. It's a message of inclusion, sharing the message of love for one another, treating your neighbor as you would treat yourself. And yet their politics preach exclusion, which also happens to run counter to the foundational notion of this nation: ALL are equal.

How the fuck do you reconcile that your core belief, excluding icky others, runs counter to both your religion and your republic?

Exactly. This is why I’m giving her grace. Coming from the true crime community is a whole other ball of wax than just politics. Yes politics is involved in this crime as is Turning Point. But murder impacts all races, all political ideologies and so on. Forgiveness is invaluable in that context.

As far as a movement or a revolution, I think it would be hard to do that as a widow and a mother raising kids for show. I’m not saying it hasn’t been done bc people in both parties are examples of this. Putting on a show in public. It would be invaluable to the children for this to be sincere. I am not speaking of the larger shit. Just as a family. Teaching forgiveness to your children. And to put that message out into the universe as the way to be going forward has the capacity to be life changing. Or it gets swallowed up by politics. What matters to me is her children and her own soul. If she’s sincere it’s a huge step towards having any kind of decent life moving forward after a tragedy.
