Terrible fits

Curious why? To be clear I think PSU is going to downgrade from Franklin most likely.

Brohm is from Kentucky; State College is firmly in Pennsyltucky. He has Big 10 coaching experience at Purdue; lots of East Coast coaching ties. They could do worse in terms of fit.

Strange that elko hasnt signed an extension yet

both sides of this are way too quiet, and as @Tex Pete pointed out Aggy doesn't know how to STFU

my guess is he's trying to both extort a historical elko sized jimbo++ package from aggy as well as see what his options are outside of college station. dudes going to parlay the shittiest season schedule ever for generational wealth one way or another though

These extensions are just so dumb.  Saban and Kirby are the exceptions to the rule that a championship run is simply lightning in a bottle and can turn to shit the very next season.  There’s nobody with a sustained level of success that warrants a ten year deal except maybe the two aforementioned guys.  Fuck these agents.  If your guy wants to leave for another job with a long term deal, then bye.

IMO it takes the big P5 schools banding together to make a change. Pushing back against the Sexton’s out there. If all of them said nah we ain’t doing this shit anymore. 4 years to show all the bench marks for improvements however that looks and make contracts incentive based. Make the CCG and so on. The expectation by year four is you should be competing for a conference title. Given all the party in the league with the portal and eventual clamping down on the NiL stuff to a degree four years isn’t a big ask. Look at Cignetti. It can be done. Contracts with incentives to me are the only way. Renewal on a yearly basis. Everything is out in the open and unless for cause firings mid season each contract is evaluated at the end of the season. Idk it seems logical to me.

cue 19,000 of you quoting this post and telling me how dumb it is. lol. 😂

Honestly would like @closetojumping thoughts on the out of control contracts and what is a better solution, many of these schools just flushed about a combined $100,000,000 to pay coaches to fuck off. Sorry for summoning you CTJ—but you have ideas about this topic I am sure. 🤘🏼

the problem is that this is considered collusion , paradoxically divorced from government employee regulation even harder from by NIL/NCAA issues.

its going to take multiple top universities to start resetting the incentive structures, and there is a ton of FOMO out there causing them to act irrationally.

i was really hoping sarks contract since he came in as OC would be of the style you're mentioning

I agree way too much of the salaries are guaranteed salary, elsewhere in the world you have a mix of performance and stock incentives to balance the sheets .

The coach who is mentioned first for every vacancy hasn't even made the playoffs.

Just like in the NFL a lot of colleges follow certain trends. It just takes one big college of those seeking a HC to announce a revolutionary type contract and others will seek to follow. I hope.

Anything on James Franklin and piggy? He would kill from them there. I hope it doesn’t happen.

Ion think it’s true and think it’s a very long shot but some are saying piggy is talking to McGuire at Tech . Yea doesn’t mean shit and i doubt it even gets close, his path to a playoff is to easy in the big12 and they can throw money just as much as Arkansas

BUT

McGuire being a metroplex guy that might be a great fit along with being in the SEC and Arkansas being a notch or two above Tech as a program

its just silly season and ppl are throwing shit against the wall

I think this carousel we are seeing a bunch of coaches explore, but i think we are going to see an unprecedented stay in coaches at their current gigs . I think a bunch of the schools hoping they land a large fish end up going smaller with a black eye but for the better overall.

The playoffs have opened some doors to smaller schools that simply did not exist before . Boise broke through last year, Tech is on the cusp, Louisville was on the cusp last year and this year. Why go to some big time program that will fire you for 9 wins, when your alma mater or some smaller school will pay you almost as much ? what if they give you 80% of the payouts for a playoff run ?

I keep hearing HC are ego maniacs , well offer one a $4M deal with incentives for 10+ wins, conference championships, playoff runs, and national championships. you knock them all out, you get $15M , you get 9 wins you get $4M . Performance based pay, how good are you really ?

The only way to stop this is to follow the Mississippi model nationwide. No state employee can sign contracts longer than 4 years so Lane signed his deal with the collective on a 6 year deal that auto renews. If boosters/collectives are pushing for a hire/fire then the guarantee should come from them on anything after the 4 year mark.

I find it hard to believe McGuire would leave Tech. Arkansas isn’t a better program, they’re both ass when it comes to football. But he’s got a lot of very public backing in NIL right now at tech. Kids know they will get paid, stupidly.

McGuire is not going to piggy. Why would he?

Big time pressure to produce without the NIL backing to make it happen? No, thanks.

Living in Lubbock as a millionaire isn't that bad. Plus, his wife loves it there. This guy was previously from Cedar Hill and Waco for crissakes.

The only metrics in which Arkansas is a better job is sec media money and a trophy from the 1960s. Tech has Campbell which makes it better money wise and for current players you’d have to get to their grand or great grand parents to remember that MNC. Unless they get a Walton or other NWA billionaire to be their Cody Campbell it’s not a better job.

Yeah not sure I'm thinking Arky is an upgrade from Tech except location and SEC/Big 12 comparisons.  Seem on the same level to me.

My opinion is Tech is a better job now.

- NIL support goes to Tech in a big way

- Path to playoff goes to Tech in a big way

- Tech has better facilities

- Location, not as sure on this one. NWA is way better scenery wise but proximity to recruits seems like a wash.

I think Tech, TCU, and SMU are all better jobs. Otherwise Lashlee would already have jumped to Arkansas.

I've heard that Alex Golesh at USF is at the top of the list and we may have already made contact. He was an assistant here in 2008 when he met his wife whose family is not too far away in Arkansas. If he makes the playoff (or maybe even if they fall short) he'll probably get thrown a stupid contract from Auburn, LSU, or Florida, so I'm not sure we can get him even if he wanted to coach here, but would be great. Other than that, I haven't heard anything other than the same names that get published for every opening plus Zac Robinson who I don't think would leave the NFL and who I wouldn't be super excited about anyway since he's never coached college. My guess is that it'll be a P4 coordinator whose name we haven't seen yet.

While we are talking coaches, what the hell is going on there in Stillwater?  Are y'all planning to keep a football program?

Ah yes.  The agents are the problem.
