But Why GIFs | Tenor

☝️

Most of us have takes on this team that aren't worth flushing if I'd shat them out.

It's a combination of not being arsed enough to care to learn enough about the game of football to have an opinion worth a dang, being too lazy to review the game tape if you did have the knowledge, and being drunk and/or too emotionally invested to look at it objectively even if ya did have the knowledge and took the time. It's frothing at the mouth, screaming at the walls, and just generally venting frustration that we actually lost two games.

So... yeah. What gives, @Park Gothic?

Some of you guys need to watch other football teams play foosball. Alabama got physically dominated by a shitty acc school that will finish bottom half. How’s that working out for them. If Texas was physically dominated by Florida they wouldn’t have had a chance to win at the end no matter the stats. This team will get better each snap and if they stay healthy they’ll make some noise.

If Arch couldn't go, then half this board would get what they were demanding immediately after the Florida game.

Pretty well considering they are ranked around the top 5, they've not lost any more games this year, and generally beaten some decent competition.

Let me ask you a question. Did Texas, to use the words of Mike Elko, physically annihilate A&M at their house last season? I'd tend to say, yes, and so would Mike Elko. But according to your definition, since they had a chance to win at the end, I guess not.

That was a lot of alcohol ago  , but I thought the “annihilated “ was a bit much by their coach. Also we were up 2 scores against aggy. We were one score away from Florida and if we didn’t have the safety against us , we would have been driving to win with a td. It was ugly tho

So it looks like we only have 3 potential losses left on the schedule: Vandy, Georgia, A&M. Vandy is overrated, Georgia is the worst theybe ever been under Smart, and A&M will still be A&M in a big game. Winning out and making the playoffs is still pretty realistic for us.

That's a lot of words to just say "They are terrible, we should win convincingly"

The point isn't that we'll lose or that we'll even play poorly. I'm not worried about losing. I'm worried that we'll sleepwalk into this game and, even though we win, it won't be a good sign.

I think the difference is that it is not going to be hard to get up for a "down" SEC game the same way it is hard to get up for some of the B12 bullshit we had to deal with. Fucking Baylor was simultaneously impossible to care about but you also wanted to see them get beat by 70 for being a shit heel of a program. Houston? Yeah ok. TCU? Fuck, we should have been charging them to come play. The difference in an SEC game is that the guys on the other side generally look a lot like you, even on the bad teams.

Something I've been mulling over and am interested to hear what y'all think.

How we play this week is going to tell me a lot about the culture of the program today and in the near future. There are very few of the 2022 class left on the roster (Campbell, Hutson and Taaffe are the only starters that immediately come to mind), and most of our leaders are from 2023. The 2023 class has not seen the kind of adversity we experienced in 2021 or even 2022.

My lingering concern is this - we have always gotten up for the RRSO. Even bad Texas teams have played above their heads in that game, and good Texas teams tend to be at their best. We are supremely motivated for the RRSO. But where Herman, Strong, and some late-stage Mack teams struggled was getting motivated for the other games. The ones we didn't take seriously. When I hear people talk about a "country club" attitude at Texas, that is what I think of. Us playing down to our opponent because we don't care as much as they do. Since 2022, we really haven't played like that in any game. At least not against a real opponent (I don't count G5 non-cons when we're working on install or getting over injuries). In the real games, even when we lost, I could see that the guys were trying. They just couldn't execute when we needed to. The defense has been especially consistent from game to game.

So for the first time since 2021, I saw us act like we weren't properly motivated against Florida. Just lacking the requisite energy and propensity for violence. The only player who seemed to have the level of fight required was Manning. I'm not saying they didn't care about Florida, but that they looked incredibly flat. Like they were showing up for a job and not a fight. But then we came to Dallas looking for a fight, and showed what we can do when we are ready to inflict pain on our opponents. Especially for the defense, but also the offense in the second half.

I'm not being pessimistic, because I think we show up in Lexington ready for a fight, and I think we will whip Kentucky's ass. But I want to see it, because it will tell me a lot about the attitude of this team. I want to see if the leaders in the 2023 class have got the same level of fight as the guys who came before them, and who learned the hard lessons of 2021 and 2022. If we see this team come out properly motivated, then that bodes well. Not just for this season, but for the foreseeable future. Because that tells me that the culture under Sark wasn't just created by adversity, but can also be handed down from class to class. That the culture is portable and isn't specific to individuals, which was far too often the case over the previous decade.

I wouldn't have worried about this before the Florida game, but here we are. To me, this game will show a lot about what the culture will be for Texas going forward. Even if the game is a slog, as long as we look fired up then I think we're set up for the long term.

tl;dr - this is a culture game, and will tell us a lot more about this season and the trajectory of the program than the RRSO did.

It is true that RRS results often don't reproduce. that includes bad teams performing well and good teams performing poorly.

I am gonna guess that youth in critical positions is our main ailment and while motivation may have helped, we're going to progress this season.

Upthread someone quoted a $9.99er that a starter will “appear on the availability list” issued shortly, and for the first time. Didn’t say “out”

I think this is a national championship caliber team and we saw them really put together one of the better halves of football in a long time Saturday. This group seems like when it clicks its gonna be a lot of fun and if seems like that's happening now. Wisner is gaining confidence and seeing more of the field. Arch is really growing. The OL looked a whole lot better and wasn't bad, still a much higher ceiling. TE room looks awesome and is both blocking and producing fine. The IDL is still the only real weakness.

I want to see them shut Kentucky out at home and score at least 3 touchdowns. That would make papa very happy.

Immamac in his sweet Mercedes just prior to posting. Just kidding dude, for some reason I feel the same.

Right, and I'm in agreement regarding Georgia and aggy, but that's just a red herring looking away from what Danny Rolling, er I mean the Billy Napier dd to us. It's irrelevant about what we did right or wrong (keeping Stroh in/replacing him with Brooks down 3 scores), we got abused and gutted. Lagway made our DBs look below average, and ran the ball at will. It wasn't a talent issue, it wss a scheming issue, but at the end of the day a complete beating by an inept team is what it is. Do you think any of us want to acknowledge we lost to Billy Napier? Sark or PK? Fuck no. But it happened, and we have to kearn from it. It's not like they were Appalachian State or something, they have plenty of talent. They dumbed down the playbook and got not one, but TWO freshman WRs heavily involved, and they took us behind the woodshed.

If Sark has neurons firing per every 15 secs, he should take notes to get OUR talented WRs, TE, etc, other than that 1 pass to McCutcheon, involved to mismatch against other teams. He's making it harder than it should be. He can run an NFL-like organization without all of the difficult bullshit these kids need to learn, which clearly is a problem, especially in the redzone.

POS rep on the Danny Rolling ref. You sick fuck😆

Damn. When did Hutson get hurt during the game?

Hutson was one of the multiple OLs that ran down the field and completely wiped out some Mobilehoma player on Wisner's 3rd-and-7 right-side screen pass-catch and directing-blocks YAC.

He didn’t. OTF said it was during practice. Doesn’t sound like he’ll be back quickly.

“Texas will be without starting center Cole Hutson when on the road this weekend in Lexington. Hutson sustained an injury in practice and very quickly was given the inactive designation.

The expectation is Connor Robertson will start at center for the Horns this weekend.

Connor Stroh also appears on the injury report on the offensive line. As does Xavier Filsaime in the back end of the defense.”

Disappointing about Hutson, but if practices are getting more physical, then that’s the give-and-take. I think it was clear we didn’t have the right approach to how practices were run over the offseason and the first half this season. More injuries may come out of practice, but if that’s what best helps the team prepare for their games then it’s a necessity.

I guess we’ll find out if Robertson is similar or an upgrade over Hutson, or if this is a case of us being intrigued by a player we have limited exposure to because we haven’t seen him screw up as often yet.

FWIW, Robertson was our lowest graded OL starter against SHSU per PFF (51.8) and Dunlap on OB.

Fingers crossed.

Second, you're giving him a pass on the i in papier?

The Hutson news is disappointing. I don’t give a shit about PFF grades, especially PFF OL grades. That was the best the OL has looked against a good defense since 2023. I was hoping that unit was coming together.

Gerry doesn’t think we’ll cover, and I’m there too with Baxter and Hutson out.
