The only thing that makes sense to me is if he hates dealing with NIL/portal/recruiting/staff turnover & hires. But those are his most successful areas at Texas so far.

This is what seems fishy to me. Strip out every difference between the college and pro games, and the differences between college and pro HC jobs, and what are you left with? A really mediocre W-L record against teams with comparable talent and a mediocre stint as a NFL OC on a team with some decent pieces.

I know NFL front offices can talk themselves into anything but I just do not even see why a NFL team would be interested in Sark as a HC.

yep tennessee's baseball coach is amazing...  we can't say that about sark

Amazing in college. Let’s see how that yelling and antics work out with 30 year old men in the mlb.

A couple thoughts catching up.

If I was a high profile college coach and my agent wasn’t mentioning my name at nfl meetings I’d fire them. The leak about it was a single line at the end of the article notes.

I’m a longtime Falcons fan and when Shanahan left after the Super Bowl and we hired Sark, the decision at the time that was wildly reported is that Sark was going to try and run Shanahan’s playbook. I thought it was dumb at the time and it only lasted a season and a half before the firings happened. He took that playbook to Alabama and with their superior athletes and HC it clicked. Texas hired him off that sequence of events. I mentioned at the time here he sucked in Atlanta but didn’t care enough to harp on it. He’s basically Kyle Shanahan 2.0 now being good but not getting over the hump. I still think it’s their play calling stuborness.

The drama around the L’Oréal baby though is peak message board gossip and like flight trackers and coaching searches is the best time here. Oh look Brian Kelly got fired….

If we can have 4th quarter v Mississippi State Sark every damn game it would be awesome. But does Sark want to be that guy? That’s the main issue. In his play calling. This entire offseason was a clusterfuck. Outside of that I want the guy to succeed. And also there aren’t coaches just hanging from trees 🌲 with amazingness that we can be assured will work out. His personal stuff aside (who doesn’t have personal shit) my primary issue is his hands off quasi-fucked up approach to this entire season AND that he continually reverts back to default Sark mode putting us in game situations we don’t have to be in bc he wants to try other shit that doesn’t work. Outside of those two things and his failure to address a glaring Oline issue in the offseason I like him fine.

"Other than THAT, how was the play, Mrs Lincoln?"

1. This is the dumbest argument about that game. Reggie Bush was never getting the ball that play because it was short yardage. Lendale White was getting it. Jesus Christ himself lining up in the backfield wouldn't have been a decoy. White had been shoving it down our throats all second half and any other call would have been dumb. Plus Bush was way more likely to get stopped short of the LOS (also more likely to break a big run but that's not what they needed).

2. Steve Sarkisian wasn't the OC and wasn't calling plays, ding dong.

3) Sarkisian is a ticking time bomb. This was all coming to a head sooner or later. He missed 30 days of work after the playoff loss, including the first Junior Day, which was fucking stunning and no commented from the AD/football side. It is probably time to go. A loss today and some people pretty pissed off about how this has all been handled by Sarkisian’s end are going to pull out the long knives with friendly press.

Well after watching the beatdown of SECOND year HC Elko bring a team to another level Sark and the people around him need to do some deep soul searching. He cannot be both HC and OC. Aggy OC wiped the floor with what was left of BK’s fraud ass.

Rhule would indeed be really funny... for OU and aggy. Would be a garbage hire.

Kiffen has a far better resume as a HC than did Sark when he was hired here. I don't know if he'd get Texas over the top but there's every reason to believe he'd maintain a CFP competitive level.

Collin Klien should have gotten a Big 12 championship ring from Texas in 2023 because he playeda huge part in Texas beating K State. And he followed it up with a 0 point outing for A&M in 2024. This does not make the point you want it to.

I'd throw out Jedd Fisch as a Plan C type contingency hire if it gets to that point. He's done good work at Arizona (claening up after Sumlin) and Washington (got them to a bowl game after DeBoer gutted the program and is going to have them at 9-3 this year, and has recruited well). Demond Williams would likely come in tow, which would be huge.

As far as the parsing goes, and I'm not sure how valid that it, Sark didn't deny that his agents talked to the NFL.

As others have pointed out, for better or worse during this most chaotic of coaching carousels, it would be negligent for agents not to talk to the NFL to attempt to generate contract leverage.

The denial leaves open that his agents contacted the NFL without his knowledge or consent, or with his consent as a tactic, only.

Bobby and CTJ have said that CDC made it clear to him and his agent he’s not getting another raise. He just got a raise 8 months ago as well.

I don’t think there was much of a denial at all just shooting the messenger(russini) and blaming his circle

I don’t think that worked in this instance.   Cdc likelycalled jimmy’s bluff.

id rather keep sark than grab a guy like Rhule or Franklin.

as for the denial, sark definitely could’ve been more explicit. “This is the best job in the world and I want to be the hc here until I retire”

culture transformed

let's see that fight hold up next week and beyond once it sinks in that sexton was sabotaging the program behind the scenes

this goes beyond absentee*/loreal issues - that stuff is personal

sexton fucked cdc, belmont and the cigars - even if sark wanted to go to the nfl - sexton should have kept his fucking mouth shut until our season was over - PERIOD

sexton is a parasite facehugger in the football business and has single-handedly transferred a billion dollars of donor wealth to coaches who did not earn it

if sark is committed to the 40 acres, he will fire sexton and renounce the athletic story with a COMPLETE DENIAL

for avoidance of doubt, the only way this goes away is if both of these things happen in the next 24 hours:

1. sark fires sexton

2. sark issues a complete denial of the athletic "story"

I mean, that’s 100% Sexton’s job (whether or not this was him).

sark isn’t firing him for doing his job

Posted (edited)

His agent is the least likely to leak this. The fact football scoop has never seen an agency put out a statement like that says so imo. There is no benefit for sexton to leak that kind of shit at all and more do on a gameday. His client just received a letter side earlier this year

God damn that is absolutely beyond abominable. How is that possible with everything he has been given? Money? ✔️ Recruiting top 5 classes for four years? ✔️ great DC? ✔️ DL coach? ✔️ freak athletes like Hill, Simmons, and Lance Jackson? ✔️ Inhereted 2 DT that went in the 1st and 2nd rd? ✔️Inhereted 2 DL that went 2nd rd and 7th in the 3rd rd? ✔️ intereted first rd Thorpe winner and added a 2nd rd portal? ✔️ Portaled a first & second rd WR, recruited a first rd WR? ✔️ Two  number 1 rated QB recruits in their classes? ✔️ Top WRs in their classes? ✔️

Avg PPG 2022 - 34.5

Avg PPG 2023 - 35.8

Avg PPG 2024 - 33.0

Avg PPG 2025 - 26.7

It's gone down every single year (2022 being the outlier). How is this possible with recruiting in the top 1-5?

He's fucked himself like Strong by hiring retreads in Kyle Flood and Jeff Banks, his buddies. He didn't hire offensively like he did defensively because they all three just coached at Bama. The same Bama that is a revolving door for coaches and yet still won. I wonder if that was because of the HC? It's like he learned nothing.

Yeah, that's just not cutting it. I dont care how stubborn you are, if you can't see the issues start with you and change in offensive approach is needed, then you may be a lost cause.

Do you remember WHO he tried to hire as DC?

it would have been an abomination.

No he didn't lol. I'll let us one paragraph blurb on Wikipedia about his time in Atlanta tell the story.

Quote

On February 7, 2017, Sarkisian was hired as offensive coordinator for the Atlanta Falcons, taking over for the recently departed Kyle Shanahan who left to become the head coach of the 49ers. The offense's scoring output, under his guidance, dropped from 33.8 points per game (leading the NFL in 2016) to 22.1 points per game in 2017. In 2018, the offense's scoring improved to 25.9 points per game. On December 31, 2018, he was fired as offensive coordinator.

plus I watched it happen in real time.
