I was wondering if a little of the euphoria phenomena that occurred in London during the blitzkrieg would happen in these situations. In such a horrible time people just become so happy to see the end of another day alive.

Shared suffering and bonds... or something.

Just negged everyone of these stupid fucking posts. God damn fuck you and Junior Miller and every other fucking Cloak Room shitheel that cannot help themselves and has to come here on this thread and run their fucking mouths because they don't think the echo chamber of the Cloak Room is a big enough podium for their bullshit. WE DON'T WANT TO READ YOUR POLITICAL LEANING BULLSHIT.
I've learned a lot from following this thread. I've never even seen some posters on this site until this thread and they have a shit ton of posts. You clowns have to be one big circle jerk ring in the Cloak Room. I wish every one of your boring, bawling, whiny asses could be negged back into Shaggy and then be forced to ogle scatporn for the rest of this election cycle.

Nothing you said about CR is even wrong but it's still better than the offseason on the football board or f5ing recruits' twitters.

My bet is that the numbers you used at the time had almost no validity. Which was the opinion I was trying to hold while being shouted down. I think the post mortem infection estimates are going to be astronomical - making the CFRs we were discussing just seem silly.

We’ll have lots of back patting and high fiveing because we beat this thing at the expense of jobs, small businesses, mortgages and what not. Already confirmation this has been around since November. If energy is put in to testing, I would bet we’d see we had this in December in the US, there have been a million cases already here alone, and the actual mortality rate is under 0.3

In the mean time,

I hope I’m wrong but...

If any of this is half true...

Furk.

don't you ever, and i mean ever, post recruiting news on the football board.  that's blasphemy.  it's right up there with posting CR content here, but instead of getting banned, you get shamed.

Maybe they should rotate by address or zip code, like when we ration water.

I was a kid in the 1970's during gas rationing.  The rule was if your license plate ended in an odd number you could get gas on an odd numbered day, even on even numbered days.  It sucked.  Lines around the block every day for gas.  Cars idling to keep A/C going.  Everyone topped off their tank every chance because they knew they could not get gas on the next day, or were afraid that rationing would get worse, or that the stations would run dry.  We used to roll up for maybe two gallons of gas at a time.

I remember being amazed when it went away and one day we could just go get gas, anytime we wanted, no lines.

Damn, 600 cases today and still counting. Increased by 25% in the US

Just for clarity, are you deducing that spread is suddenly skyrocketing? Otherwise, what’s the purpose of this post? It is a fucking given that there are numerous undetected cases in the US right now and heightened testing over the next few weeks will inevitably catch up to that. Get a fucking grip.

LOL at this....you know how much the slowest buffalo costs?  I'm not saying that culling is the right thing to do but to say there isn't anything meaningful beside the ability to reproduce is stupid.

There are still a lot of people conjecturing about their illnesses in the last few weeks. I have been seeing a viral syndrome likely associated with adenovirus infection. There have been viral confirmations of this both at TDH and with our local system lab. I have not personally seen any of these progress to pneumonia or ARDS so I don’t think we saw Covid 19 prior to March.

Here’s a link to CDC information on the symptoms. They’re going to look really familiar. Now you know why diagnosing mild Covid clinically is such a bitch.

Adenovirus symptoms

  • common cold or flu-like symptoms
  • fever
  • sore throat
  • acute bronchitis (inflammation of the airways of the lungs, sometimes called a “chest cold”)
  • pneumonia (infection of the lungs)
  • pink eye (conjunctivitis)
  • acute gastroenteritis (inflammation of the stomach or intestines causing diarrhea, vomiting, nausea and stomach pain)

Thank you for posting this; they do share symptoms so no wonder folks are having difficulty with diagnosis and the ill patients are scared about what they have.

Two questions:

What is TDH? Is that a hospital in Texas? I'm not up on the short forms of places.

If someone has the above symptoms, stay at home (self-quarantine) and call doc if symptoms get worse I presume?

Ok, three questions, sorry. If someone was living on the west coast near LA, is it possible they could have come down with it in late Jan/early Feb?

What makes this so insidious is this very fact:  there's simply not a good way to know if you've "got it" or not until things get really bad. We joke about all the little symptoms, but there are so many infected people worldwide who are asymptomatic, it really does make it a legitimate source of worry anytime you show even one little tiny symptom, particularly if you are responsible for the health of anyone vulnerable -- irrational behavior won't help anyone, but on the other hand, you have to be some kind of robot not feel at least some irrational fear about this little bastard of a virus.

Mrs. Brat is still undecided about going to 7:30am Mass on Sunday. At least they quit all that grubbing over each other and are supposedly just waving their love greetings.

However, the Austin Archdiocese Bishop said the religious education classes will resume after Spring Break. Mrs. Brat co-teaches the 1st graders on Monday afternoons. We’ll see if that guy changes his tune in the next week.

Not being a church-goer myself, she is reluctant to let me influence anything that has to do with her devout religious life.

Don't go. No groups of people.

God, if it exists, has shown it won't save you.  Only your wits, judgement, and luck can help you. Don't die over a supernatural entity that isn't considerate enough to make it's wishes explicitly known.

Belittling someone's religion, what a great way to try to change someones mind!

Army - I'd imagine that Diocese down in Texas will do what Colorado did by cancelling all masses. Again, EWTN and the Vatican provide a livestream/pre-recorded stream to watch.

This is seriously freaking me out.  I traveled the last few weekends for weddings and baby showers.  One of my friends hung out with Charles Barkley at a bar for an hour in Atlanta, who is seeing symptoms and quarantining himself.  I hung out with the same friend that entire weekend.  The last two days ...Headaches,  fatigue, a little congestion,  diarrhea.   Today, burping with slight nausea and a very slight dry cough with more diarrhea.

What in the fucking fuck.  My symptoms are very mild.  There are times during the day I feel totally fine, then I feel it for an hour or two.  Going to stay in and see a doc if it worsens.

Dude just fucking stay at home.  Hydrate.  Take vitamin C.  Unless you have serious underlying illnesses or start to get respiratory distress it's dumb as shit to go see a doc.  The idea (soon?) is that someone takes you to a drive thru, you're tested, you get the results at home, if you're positive you just stay home.  You don't get a positive test then decide you're gonna head out in public to see a doc who really can't do shit for you unless your symptoms are really advanced.

Unless you REALLY hate old people take one for the team and stay in.

No offense, but I think Mrs. Brat’s on the wrong side here. Whether you go to church or not is immaterial because, unless you live in independent environments completely isolated from each other, she puts you at risk by proxy. If she gets it, you almost certainly get it, and then we’re off to the races.

If there’s a God, I’m sure He or She would rather the each of you not needlessly and pointlessly risk the others’ life.

Can’t her church do a “tele-service” through Google Hangouts or something that’d allow her to worship from home?

cool, but the question was specific and concrete.  how much hardware do we have?  in numbers, not words.

Sorry, misunderstood. Read "peak" and "8-9 weeks" and thought you meant number of active cases.

Good.

Whatcha gonna do? Travel?

Join the neighbors on the cruise, obviously.

If the feds are saying it could peak in 8-9 weeks, I’m going to guess that may school districts are going to go remote teaching.
The math is nuts, but if Americans are prepping in large numbers, we may not get below 70-80% reduction in social interaction, but will give it a decent shot.
Except our grocery stores will become covid distribution centers.

I'd imagine that the capacity for US grocery stores, Amazon, etc. to deliver and/or do curbside will help. Yes, no doubt some staff will get sick, but I'd also imagine there will be people looking for work over the next few months.

Risk mitigation? Are they planning on losing staff? This folks is an indicator of holy fuck.

Probably more about maintaining inventory but yeah they probably anticipate some staff getting sick.

Sorry, Texas Department of Health

Yes on question two, smart thing to do.

I’m not sure about timing on arrival on the West Coast. The incubation period is generally short and unless recently mutated, the virus is quickly devastating to older patients especially those with comorbid conditions. We didn’t see horrible community outcomes until Washington state. This thing is prettying contagious so I doubt it’s been living amongst us for very long.

Are you operating under the assumption this virus has not been growing exponentially across the US for some time?

I've been under the impression this virus with it's R0 doubles the numbers of infections every 3 days or so.

So yes, I am under the impression, irregardless of whatever testing is taking place or not, that the number of infections are and have been skyrocketing for some time.

Hopefully the rate of spread slows significantly soon with appropriate social distancing.

But then again Post Malone concerts, Spring Break travel, etc. are still taking place so I am not particularly confident it slows very much.

Since January 22nd, Surly posters have been posting case updates and totals from around the world ever single fucking day.

@GreenspointTexas is simply doing what a shitload of us have done since January 22nd.  Shit, I just posted case totals from France a few hours ago, and I didn’t see you bitching about it.

The very first post in this thread was case updates from Wuhan, the third post about Washington State, the fourth or fifth from Hong Kong

So if the rest of us have been posting these updates many times every single day since January 22nd, maybe you should ask yourself what’s the purpose of your post?

Did you cuss them out for taking away the right to pray in public you’ve been tortured for over the centuries? Tell them they don’t know shit about God’s Will and show them a 30 year old medical study about AIDS? I mean, certainly you expressed your outrage, right?
