RIP Otis. He was an APA rescue 10 years ago after being brought back because he chased the neighbors cat… as soon as I learned that he was my dog immediately. he was the bargaining chip to get my girlfriend to come to Austin more than I went to Waco. He was the big dawg boy all of my roommates loved and spoiled. He dealt with moves from Austin to Lafayette, to my parents house in Jefferson, then to Houston and was a calming factor the whole time. He was my constant through college, a long distance relationship, staying with my parents for a while without me, and moving to a new city 7 years ago. He was there when we struggled to get pregnant for two years, always letting us know it was ok and he was there for us sleeping in our bed with his head nestled on my back every night. We’ve had new jobs, promotions, and finally a baby to boot, and he was next to us the whole time. With all of that, the attention on him was minimized, but he took it in stride he was still one of those dogs everyone in our family and all of our friends loved as well. After having some stomach issues the past few days and talking with our vet, I let Otis out this morning. After 30 min I checked on him and he was still laying on the ground, threw up on his feet. I carried him to the car and my wife took him to the pet ER, where they said he had stomach cancer. We put my best friend, Otis, down today after 10+ years of the most unconditional loyalty and friendship a man could ever ask for. RIP Otis, I’ll love you and remember you forever.20 points

No. Its why they're so fragile in the DT thread right now. They're having a tough time reconciling their support of Ukraine when their favorite politicians and talking heads are laundering Russian propaganda.15 points

This is where I remind everyone that the Wagner Group doesn’t really exist and is just a proxy and plausibly deniable extension of the Russian military and military intelligence. If they are “dropping recruiting requirements” what that most likely means is that a bunch of conscripts are fixing to become Wagner Mercenaries, maybe even retroactively.14 points

Am I the only one who notices the striking similarity between the language of the propaganda being used currently by the Russkies and the language of the propaganda being used by the supporters of "everyone's favorite president" starting in, say, 2015ish? Surely I'm not.13 points

To seriously answer the question of whether there's something mentally wrong with Ted Cruz, there isn't. He wasn't dropped on his head as an infant. His dad didn't neglect him as a child. He wasn't squat-humped by the guy who drove the Good Humor ice cream van. He's just an asshole. Plain and simple. He knows what he's doing. And he's a fucking asshole.13 points

It's a sad situation when I can read this kind of tripe and actually see Sarkisian being that much of a buffoon. The best guy should fucking play, take his lumps and adversity as they come, grow through it, and lead the team into the future. You know, like good young players are supposed to do if they have a coach worth a shit. Sarkisian didn't "put Card in a position" last year. Card was the best player in practice and looked good against a ranked team to open the season. He then had his spirit tested in a hostile environment, then wilted and shit himself, and deservedly got yanked. What a stupid fucking take. I certainly hope Sarkisian isn't that dickless.13 points

About 15 years ago, my oldest daughter was in college and she found a dog she called Jake. Ridgeback, Chow, Lab mix. I call him Cousin Jake. Now, my daughter and her husband and two kids live outside of a small South Georgia farming town and Cousin Jake is known throughout the county. He will occasionally run away after a storm and be gone for 2 days to 3 weeks. We will come back, beat to shit, but happy as can be. Jake Loves Kids. My favorite story is my daughter got a call from her neighbor about 1/4 mile away. "Jake is over here when you want to come get him." She is thinking he killed a chicken or tore up their garden, but when she gets there, the whole family is out in the yard rubbing Jake's belly. Apparently, the little girl was at the end of the country road on her bike and a stray dog started chasing the little girl on the bike. Cousin Jake appeared out of the woods, whipped the stray and trotted next to the girl, back to her house. If I could clone a dog, it would be Cousin Jake. Today, is Cousin Jake's last day on earth.12 points

If you consider cops who actively pull bad shit, I would agree that not every cop is a bad cop. If you broaden this to cops who don't do anything to stop/curb this behavior, re-hire bad cops, back-the-blue over all else, etc., I don't know how you can draw any conclusion other than the large majority of cops are bad cops. How many times do bad cops actually receive any consequences of note?11 points

Good thread: tl;dr: 1. Putin is getting bad advice and making big mistakes; 2. Russia may try to attack Lviv where their military HQ are located (and where western intel is being fed to the Ukes) 3. This would be stupid, as already stretched/nonexistent logistics would be taxed even further oh and there is this gem:9 points

shit is not sustainable or good for the long term health of a nation. as a homeowner, i like this since i am considering downsizing and moving to a more remote area where housing won't be so expensive. i'll pocket a massive gain. as a parent, i worry for my kids when it's time for them to buy homes.9 points

I hope he's right, but if he is, we need Arch to commit this spring. Landing Arch will always be huge, but if he waits until six games into the season, we won't even have enough time to really build momentum for 23. Sark has to find a way to close this one ASAP. Even just winning the recruitment isn't enough right now with the shit product he put on the field last year. That guy is a fucking moron.9 points

We were shocked and astounded that Russia invaded Ukraine, a country that it had already partially invaded twice in eight years. Few of us even at the heights of power saw another actual military operation except for the American president who warned us about it for over a month. And also the Secretary of State and the NATO Secretary General. Other than them, who are not at the highest levels, no one saw this coming. Putin’s nationalist ravings and post-hoc justifications— propaganda or real? It’s a mystery, destined to be lost to the sands of time. Were Russian troops and equipment in eastern Ukraine? Another mystery lost to the sands of time, no one know for sure. Just like how no one knows for sure that a Russian missile in that region shot down a civilian airliner. On the one hand we have an extensive and carefully crafted investigation including eyewitnesses, satellite imagery, debris from the crash site, and communications between the Russian military and separatists. On the other hand, Russia says it wasn’t them. Skirmeshes erupted. Like a volcano, a true tragedy that no one could have foreseen or stopped. Along the border of Ukraine and these regions, which are also Ukraine, but lets call it a border. Many Ukrainians opted to join forces with the Nazis, and Russia never forgot that. Just like many Russians decided to fight with the Nazis, and Russia did forget that. But they weren’t Ukrainians, so that’s important. Also, the USSR was homegrown in Ukraine, like the wheat from its black soil or Kievan Rus, it is known that the Soviet regime was birthed and nurtured in Ukraine, except for the Ukrainians who fought against it and declared i dependence. But they later became Nazis and therefore, foreign.9 points

I'll quote this for the blockers. They have a flag. It's a pretty good goddamn flag. They don't give a shit about Gadsden, III%, or that orange fucking buffoon. They'd sooner piss on him. Zelenskyy told him to fuck off. Do the same.8 points

Correct. It's why they react screaming like a scalded dog when confronted by the fact that the leading cheerleaders for TFG on Fox are currently cheerleaders for Russian propaganda. It's because they know that this is true: And they are now confronted with a situation that no longer allows them to pretend that it isn't anathema to the US and all western interests.8 points

I've said this before but in terms of "middle class," strip away the money and dollar amounts and look at the trappings and how they've changed over the years. America is built on a "middle class ethos" to the point where 80% of us or something think we're "middle class" even though that's statistically impossible. When I was younger, middle class meant you likely owned your house in a reasonably good school district, your spouse might have worked, two cars, had some savings, and took a vacation in the summer. Now, what I've described is upper class. Statistically, middle class now means you're a renter in a bad or average school district, both people work and sometimes multiple jobs, no savings and significant debt relative to the household income. We're promised as Americans that if we work hard and do the right things, we'll achieve the "middle class dream" but millions of people did that only to realize being middle class now isn't what they thought. When you understand that, you start to understand the angst in America right now.7 points
