When you run shit flat out, you tend to have problems at times. Plus you are generally working with shit that will burn slash blow up regularly. That being said, he had the biggest individual one day run through beef packing plants in almost 3 years, and starting to run significantly ahead of last year's levels with more capacity to come this summer. Pork production is has improved significantly into the tightest number time of the year as well, and chicken numbers have almost caught back up to pre-bird flu levels. Wholesale beef and pork prices are below year ago levels as well, with cold storage stocks almost at pre-pandemic levels. If you want to be scared be scared, but the meat side of food processing is kicking ass right now under the circumstances.15 points

This is Kemune in Northern Iraq, just NW of Mosul. The lake created by the Mosul Dam on the Tigris has receded due to drought, and archaeologists found this amazing discovery. A part of it was actually first discovered in 2019 but they only had a faint idea that this much of the ancient city was preserved. Dating all the way back to the late Sumerian era. This is likely from the Mittani Empire, a largely-forgotten (mostly due to lack of evidence) but powerful force in 1.500 B.C. Sumeria. A palace is likely the core of the ruins, with enormous storehouses, that suggested that this culture did frequent trade with Egypt and other pre-Assyrian powers. Where I dig this especially is that the Mittanis were most likely a Hurrian-speaking people, which is Biblically significant. The Hivites and Horites of Genesis 14 were Hurrian speakers, and the Hivites were one of the seven nations which Joshua had conquered during his Canaan campaign (Deut. 7). But maybe most significantly, when Abraham's family (father Terah) left Ur, they settled in Haran (Gen. 11). Haran was a majority Hurrian-speaking city and likely either Mittani or in close contact with them. And in fact, many of the "weird" practices we find in most of Genesis concerning Abraham and the culture (app. Ch. 15-31) were not specific to the Hebrew culture, but rather freely exchanged as a part of Mittite culture. (one of my "big things" in history is to study how esp. in the Old Testament, what we determine as "weird" or "bizarre" customs or incidents in the accounts of the Israelites, were actually quite common and understood as long-forgotten customs in contemporary cultures that they picked up, and anything but "bizarre" to those peoples... e.g. Sarah giving her slave Hagar to Abraham, and his reluctance to send them (Hagar and Ishmael) out once Sarah was pregnant with Isaac, was very much based on Nuzi law regarding barrenness and the substitute procedure. We tend to think of Israelites as living in "their own" culture, and while that's certainly true in part, it's absolutely not the entire truth. Joseph flourished in Egyptian culture, and Abraham had to come from some earthly culture, so it's pretty likely that he adopted a lot of his habits from these Mittite customs and laws). Anyway it's not out of the realm of possibility to think that this city, although dating slightly before Abraham's traditional dates, was likely in existence in some form and that Abraham would almost certainly have known about it, if not visited it.) https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/after-drought-3-400-year-old-city-in-iraq-resurfaces13 points

Well, I finally watched the 3 episodes and then read this thread. I'm very sorry to have to admit that I never should have read this thread. Goddamn y'all are a bunch of brisket fucking texans on a politics thread. Can't y'all just watch something and enjoy it without needing to pick apart every little piece. I watched it with my 13 year and we both loved it, especially EP. 3. I'll continue watching the show, but I'm not sure I can say the same about reading this thread.10 points

God he's so obvious when he's telegraphing shit. Story about to drop about paying a sexual harassment settlement: "Woke political attacks will be coming soon!" TSLA stock in the shitter and getting ready to announce layoffs: "I've got too many lazy employees working from home!" If Elon randomly tweeted something like "Society should be more forgiving of youthful indiscretions" I'd put better than even odds that within 48 hours it would be revealed that he was charged with a sexual offense as a juvenile.10 points

The modern GOP is both incapable and uninterested in governing. They are really in their element as permanent opposition, which was evident with DJT in office— most of his energy was directed at attacking the institutions he controlled. This is why the concept of the “deep state” (which is just a rehash of “obstructionist bureaucrats” with a dash of conspiracy) exists. Once they become “the government” they have to have a second, imaginary government to be in opposition to.9 points

I will never understand why we should ever listen to someone moralize about anything when they are walking examples of gluttony. Fuck you. You don't even follow your own stated moral code, what gives you the authority to make any of us try to live by it? You want to be fat, go for it, I don't care. I won't even call you out on it, until you start using the bible as a hammer. If I were to debate this guy, I'd just keep quoting bible verses about the dangers of gluttony any time he tried to bring up his moralizing bullshit. Get your own house in order you piece of shit.8 points

Do not ever again talk about how important your religion is to you as you use it to justify throwing my people in jail, fining and jailing women who want to control their own bodies, and the mass slaughter of the innocent. With that statement you have told me that you don't even follow the tenets of your religion. FUCK YOU.7 points

As a guy newly back in the dating pool for the first time in 23 years, they are on all the dating sites too. I actually call out "No Trumpers" in my profile, and they all feel compelled to message me and tell me I sounded great until they saw that. Really Karen? You don't think I saw your profile with your "Let's go Brandon" shirt and AR 15 and didn't just keep scrolling?7 points

Well, I didn't get a fancy new job or anything but I hit 100 days in May and have 110 as of now. 3 full months and some change. Letting the little things roll of my back and finding other ways to deal with the big things that would have previously allowed me to tell myself that a drink or 4 was the solution. We'll have 35+ high school kids here today for a graduation party and it's going to be a clusterfuck. I stayed out of the planning because I was told that it was being take care of. It was not. Last night as several others were buzzing around the house at 10:00 scrambling, I was chilled out. 110 days ago, I would have been planning how I could pull of drinking nearly all day. Today, I'm finishing up some work and around 1:00, I'll help where I can, 5:00ish I'll fire up the grill and start churning out burgers and brats. All while enjoying some sparkling water or Diet Coke and watching this spectacle unfold.7 points

Damn dude I'm really enjoying this and all the new star wars content! (edit: I mean shows, wasn't hot on the sequel trilogy lol) Sorry to hear it's missed the mark so much with you, but I feel almost exactly opposite of you. It's like you're looking for reasons to dislike the show and turn nitpicks into showstoppers. It's space. It's magic powers. Suspend your disbelief son, this is a comic book fantasy world lol7 points

Another great example of why the death penalty is entirely appropriate when justly administered in a civil society.7 points
