I think this may be a potential pivot point to edge, it was his first time on campus today for the pool party. All the way from Mississippi:

I think he’s too big already, if I understand what PK wants from the position (probably don’t).  I think they want guys that can rush the passer or play more as a 3-4 olb so the front can go 4-2 to 3-3 to 2-4 depending on play call.

You clearly have no idea what you’re talking about. Surly has assured me PKs scheme involves zero pass rush from its DEs. PK literally removes a DEs fingernail in the film room every time they are within 2ft of the QB instead of making out with the OL.

So our pool party had no surprise guest I’m guessing?  I know we don’t use it as a focus of recruiting like aggy but seemed to be a really small crowd this year.

Not only no surprises but didn’t get the kid looking at USC (bye bye) or the peg leg going to aggy pool party to hang out with the real #1 recruit in the country.
doomed.

Does this mean we suck again? I need CTJ to tell me how to feel and what to do with my hands.

Why does 247 have Brown rated so lowly? The other big 3 national recruiting sites have him as a mid (on3 & Rivals) or low (ESPN) 4-star recuit, while 247 has him as mid 3-star recruit.

He doesn’t go to camps, doesn’t even have a cell phone. It’s just unfamiliarity.

Brown might play some as a Jack but is a DT long-term. PK has used bigger ends at Jack at times.

Yes.  He wants guys that can play outside whether it's a 40 or 50 front and are comfortable dropping into coverage occasionally.  Long and lean OLB types, kind of like 6'4" 220 LB Joseph Ossai.

Joe Cook: Texas Bash visitors enjoyed seeing the current team's summer training session

Quote

A new feature of the college football offseason is the ability for coaches to work with players in on-field skill training with a ball for up to two hours per week. At the Thursday Texas Bash recruiting event, prospects from the classes of 2023, 2024, and 2025 were able to take in these skill workouts. A few recruits had positive reviews regarding the ability to see how the Longhorn coaching staff works with current players, and some recruits were able to envision their potential future in burnt orange. Here’s what a handful at the event had to say about watching one of Texas’ last offseason workouts before camp begins next week.

2023 DeSoto (Texas) RB and Texas commit Tre Wisner: “I felt like I was already working out. It was smooth. I like seeing coaches and players putting in work at the same time. It really showed how great of a program it is and what to expect when you get there.”

2023 Mansfield (Texas) Timberview OL and Texas commit Andre Cojoe: “My takeaway from practice is how fast-paced it is. Even though it’s still not even fall camp, they’re still doing beginning sessions. I liked how Coach (Kyle) Flood, before practice, he had the freshman O-line go over all the blitz packages so they know. He said he does the older guys at the end to refresh them, but the freshmen, he’s really trying to teach them. I like how he shows a lot of attention to the freshmen rather than just throwing them out there.”

2023 Fort Worth (Texas) North Crowley LB and Texas commit S’Maje Burrell: “In practice, I see everybody paying attention, getting coached. You don’t see a lot of coaches mad, angry, or just yelling at players. They actually take the time to teach them. I think that’s something that stands out. As you’re in meetings with coaches, you see that coaches took time to learn the players they have.”

2023 Shreveport (La.) Northwood DL TaDerius Collins: “At practice today, (Bo Davis) was developing them. He was really in touch with them, how a real coach should be.”

2024 Duncanville (Texas) S Ka’Davion Dotson: “I got to catch a couple of drills. I like how Coach (Terry) Joseph and Coach (Blake) Gideon sit there and are detailed in teaching the DBs.”

2024 Smithson Valley (Texas) WR Freddie Dubose: “It was really interesting to watch because even the people who aren’t ones and twos are able to practice just as much as the ones and twos, instead of sitting there and watching.”

2024 San Antonio (Texas) Veterans Memorial RB James Peoples: “To be able to watch how they do practice, how they construct and implement things in the practice, and really develop their players, seeing that was awesome. Not all programs run it like UT did, and I had a great time being able to learn. Even talked to Coach (Tashard) Choice, him giving me tips and things like that. Seeing drills that I did when I came here the first time are the same drills that they do, their running backs here, just shows you how he develops backs.”

2024 Lucas (Texas) Lovejoy LB Payton Pierce: “It was fun watching practice and watching the players communicate and do it without the coaches, just on their own. There was a lot of energy at practice, and it was fun.”

Perks of already having 20 commits in the class. At this time last year we were at 11 if my quick math is correct (2 of which ended up decommitting).

SIAP Sam Spiegelman put in a RPM for Anthony Hill to aggy.

Sam Spiegelman has a 57% lifetime accuracy rating on RPMs. He may be trying to read tealeaves of Hill going to aggy this weekend vs us. We knew that was what was happening going in.

Getting Matthews would take us to 4 blue chip DB’s in this class. I wonder if we would be done there and allocate the rest of our spots to Edge, DL and one more off ball LB take? Obviously if someone like Toviano wants in you tell him yes but he becomes much more of a luxury than a need

You take Toviano regardless. You have 5 positions in the back, one top quality prospect at each sounds about right.

I think they would definitely be done at DB besides Toviano if Matthews pulls the trigger.

Overall that would put us at 21 commits and leave us chasing 1 RB (Baxter), 1 WR (Hale or MHP), 1 more interior DL, 2 edge guys, 1 more off ball LB (Hill) and maybe a BPA (Toviano or someone like Deuce Robinson). Would put us at 28 overall which sounds about right.

It’s just a guess that’s not based on intel.. he sees that they have the Cali QB coming in and he’s assuming that means big $ is on the table.

This is probably right - he sees the Aggie bags amassing and knows Hill will be a prime recipient this weekend.

I have to say I am not excited about WR. Take one or dont, but I dont really care. Would be happy to see that slot go somewhere else.

You aren't excited about the options or you don't think we should be taking a 4th?

We have 10 scholarship WR's right now, 2 of which are for sure gone after this year (Whittington and Milton), another one who could potentially be gone (Neyor) and 3 who have never sniffed the field or have major injury concerns (Omeire, Alexis, Cain). That's over half the room that could be gone 6 months from now and doesn't even factor two of the biggest wildcards in the room (Hall and Red). You definitely take 4 WR's this cycle and that still leaves you room to hit the portal if you need to.

Neither guy elicits much emotion to me. I would like that 4th slot to be reserved for a stud, given the all the offensive momentum.

If aggy misses on Hill, im not sure they end up with a top 25 class even

Their class has a huge range of possibilities right now. If they somehow pull off the insane flip of Nelson/Branch, they likely end up top 5, very possibly top 2-3 considering potential followers. If they miss on Hill (50/50) and Nelson (still very likely to miss imo) and can't pull a few longshot flips, then yeah we're probably talking 15-20 range. They probably get Hicks, Brooks, and some other solid top 200 players to round out the class so I doubt it'd be lower than that.

Guess we're about to find out if their bag strategy still works or if the NIL world has caught up though. Sounds like the bags are at least getting visitors this weekend.

This akin to the football board predicting they lose 7 games.  Their schedule is too easy for that to happen.  They won't finish outside the top 25 even without Hill.  They'll just buy some mercenaries that have their hand out.

Given Riley is shady AF, I am just going to believe Nelson and Branch are just there to get intel on the bag game aggy is playing.

That said it is frustrating to me that they can create waves by getting these guys in for the weekend and the Texas staff doesn't seem to have tried to generate the same energy.
