For those thinking he still might be fired please tell me why the statement was released at all. The speculation has been going on for weeks, we’ve lost some of our best recruits and he never said peep. Why this afternoon?

CYA in the event you can't get somebody you feel good about or can get the buyout funded. The Kansas game was cancelled yesterday (or was it Thursday?) -- the regular season is over. This was the logical time to make a move or not make a move. It's clear if Urban immediately said "yes" it would've happened already. If Urban is a "silent commit" and is waiting for OSU to finish their season to poach staff, this accomplishes that. It also temporarily assuages any current players or recruits who are Herman loyalists.

I believe it was written very intentionally. Why, we will probably never know if Herman coaches in the Fall ‘21. If something occurs between now and year end, we’ll know. CDC can always say, “I intended to bring him back for ‘21, until Coach Whomever presented himself”. If there is ANY chance of replacing him, keep your mouth shut

In short, CDC’s first public statement on the matter is a further detriment to our circus.

CDC's statement is very political. It can be interpreted either way.

There is nothing in his statement he even has to walk back.

Tom Herman is our coach.

Tom Herman is no longer our coach, as we have moved on to the next step in Texas football and would like to announce the NEW Texas Football head coach...

Is goes to was really fucking easy.

Exactly. That was kind of my point.

Are you aware of the stars on our current O line?

Yep. He was not a hidden gem like some of our lower rated guys have been. He was a total reach if you’ve been following our oline recruiting for the class.

Could be a simple CYA move, to distance himself from Herman.  Let people know that he isn't satisfied with Herman's performance.  Still trying to get a replacement behind the scenes, but hedging in case he can't get it done.

I don't know what's worse - a) the delusion shared by so many on this thread that we were actually going to (or still may) get Urban Meyer, or b) the rationalizations of CDC's statement re: why it was written and what it really means.

It’s not a rationalization, these are textbook open-ended statements. “He’s our coach.” “He’s our coach heading into....” normally coaches are dead men walking when Owners/GMs/ADs say that. Of course, CDC can just be the smartest dumbass in Austin by still leaving it open-ended when he truly means it.

End of season was scheduled for today against Kansas... CDC said he was waiting until after the season to fully evaluate the program.  Also the 2021 early signing day period starts next week so hopefully it helps a little with recruiting.

If Herman is indeed our coach in the fall......knot hole tickets will be for sale again and attendance may mirror the covid games this season....

Meanwhile, Orange Slices and all.

So does this statement mean anything? Do we think Herman is still gone and this is a tactic by CDC to help with recruits?

If so, cool. If not, fuck CDC.

No - it's meaningless.  But if you try to speculate as to why one would write a meaningless statement regarding our coaching situation on a thread devoted to it, on a board devoted to UT football, you are whiny bitch baby.

Do ADs typically go to games featuring two teams not playing in a CCG at the end of the season?

Whats the big deal that he did? And how is it him, trying to stay relevant. He may just be a dude that enjoys watching football.

So AAS and 247 are doubling down that he's back for next season. Mainstream media is running with that too although likely without follow-up.

Anything from IT or others?

Again with the delicate fucking language. "moving forward into next season"

WHAT THE FUCK DOES THAT MEAN?!?!?!

Means what it says. Just remember that the 2021 season begins when the bowl game ends.

No, if you whine and bitch about it like a baby then you're a whiny bitch baby. If you ask reasonable questions about it then you're not. Fairly straightforward.

Believe Nahlin said that didn’t change anything for them. They haven’t bought it.

Ok cool. Thanks. Top notch comment. A simple no would have been fine.

What, exactly, was the point of this statement?  Did it achieve it's objective?

The statement put out by CDC makes me even more confident that we have new HC in 2021

Exactly.

The BDE is not strong in the Day Shift.

IT mods still implying that Herman is done and CDCs statement and clarifications to reporters don’t change anything.

Even if that’s the case (and I hope it is) I still don’t get what the point of this was. I’m ready to start being impressed by what a great AD del Conte is any day now.

That tells me CDC knows the only person other than Tom Herman who is a possible head coach at Texas next year is Urban Meyer. It's one or the other.

Look, we have 18 guys ready to sign on the line that is dotted 4 days from now. Herman can bring those guys home and possibly a stud RB as well. That is what this statement is designed to ensure and nothing more.

Sorry - the last bit wasn't directed at you.

Didn’t CTJ say that CDC would offer this vote of confidence and we would predictably meltdown?

This is a college football message board. Everyone on here is poor compared to people who have real money.

And how does this vague statement help with that?

The original statement made me confident in a firing. The follow-ups from AAS and 247 do not.

Ultimately, I think we just don't know what our replacement options are yet and won't decide on Tom until we do (at least after CCGs, maybe playoffs). CDC was probably trying to buy time without committing either way but was a little too vague with the original statement so got forced to clarify which put him in a sticky situation.

There are plenty of rich people on this board but I am pretty sure you aren't won of them based on this statement.

Very easily could be exactly what's happening here

Because now the local and National media are running with “Tom Herman is back for 2021” even though that’s not what he said, and even his clarifications are hedging it.

The sun is not setting on our chance with Urban, its setting on Tom Herman! I believe what I want!

Tom Herman:  Look motherfucker, all this rumor-mongering about Urban Meyer is destroying our recruiting class.  If you actually want me to be able to do my job, you need to stop the bleeding.

CDC (to Tom Herman): I'll take care of it.

CDC (to intern): Write me a press release that could be interpreted by naïve people (e.g. high school athletes) or stupid/lazy fuckers (e.g. FCB) as supporting Tom Herman, but doesn't make me a liar if any of these coaching options for next year end up panning out.

for those of u holding out hope that bohls/fcb & all the other outlets are wrong about herman being here in 2021 just know the players were told weeks ago that herman will be here next season

@Rip76 can vouch i told him about herman being back in 2021 being told to the players

Dude!  He's never going to fuck you.  Let it go and move the fuck on!

I need to know if it's time to set the fires.

If I was one of those 18 recruits that have committed to us and was just told Herman will definitely be back next year that would make me reconsider my commitment to UT.

Whatever is actually happening - they are treating the Texas fanbase like a bunch of children which is a dangerous game to play.
