Did it properly conclude or still ongoing?  Just nervous to get into 4 seasons if it gets canceled heh

There’s a fifth season in production to wrap it up and then the spin-off/prequel starts up.  “Star City” is the spin-off and it covers basically how the series timeline diverged from the actual timeline.  They are filming as we speak.

Lol wtf?  A 4 season scifi by the Battlestar Galactica guy?  How in the fuck does Apple manage to have stuff like this nobody ever has heard about..
This will be my latest binge.

Heh the wife and I watched it from the beginning.

We were on a Michael Dorman kick after finishing Patriot.

and also kinda a Joel Kinneman kick.

The first couple seasons are really great. When it gets to about season 3, it starts to trail off. We haven't even watched season 4.

I think I watched all of them but I agree with this take.

Hi Bob. I'm all caught up on FaM. Agree that the last two seasons start to dip. Still dig it though, and I'll be there for S5. Joel Kinnamen rules.

Another Kinnamen series that dropped off the radar - Altered Carbon on Netflix (well he's in the first season).

Yea I didn't really care for it. And I was a casual fan of the book.

Fuck yes.  The two best shows for me are Foundation and Severance, and both have massive gaps between seasons.  I wish I could cryogenically freeze the part of my brain that stored that information because I can't remember shit without a rewatch.

Watched the first two eps, liking it so far.

Agreed. As a divorced guy who got laid off at the tail-end of the Great Recession and went crazy doing stupid shit for a good while, I can relate to Hamm's character.

It's a good show.

Your Friends and Neighbors is trying to do too much.  It is trying to be like Desperate Housewives or something with 30 different storylines instead of Breaking Bad with one through line and some interesting ancillary stuff.  I like it but it could be so much better.  There are about a 1/2 down characters that get too much screen time.

This is how I end up feeling about most Apple shows. They would almost always be better if they were 6 episodes.

Yeah, but walt’s wife and walt jr became a struggle and their cuntiness took away from the story the last season or two. She may have been before that even.

Even then, still a top-notch show.

I’ve just accepted some of these shows need some skip/jump button action to make them much more enjoyable experiences. At least they make it obvious when the scene is pointless and adds nothing to the plot. Probably skipped half of the last two episodes. I would have quit without it.

Agreed. After the last ep it’s pretty clear Coop would have been better off just telling his wife the moneytrain was off the tracks and to fuck off, telling his shitty kids they’re headed to public school next year, selling the Maserati, and heading down the road.

I think it’s about to spin into a total disappointing shitshow.  I don’t give a shit about his nutjob sister and her obsessive relationship. Or family conflicts with his chica partner. Or his ex wife’s rich nba boyfriend’s entrepreneurial efforts.  Or Barney’s home reno issues or in-law problems.

it would be improved with more nekkid women.

The Studio is a show that is not bingeable, but it’s a very funny show.  Each episode is so full of manic shit it’s just exhausting.  The last couple, Golden Globes and CinemaCon, are just crazy in Seth Rogan’s manias and their contagion.  Very funny but they wear you out.

It’s a worse version of Billions. Which had titties and better actors.

So, given the limited, albeit very high quality, Apple+ content I was seriously considering dropping it.

I decided to give Murderbot a run and I was pretty sure I wouldn't care for it based on previews. Well, turned it on and there was a preview for Stick with Wilson, Maron, Greer, and Trevino... fuck you Apple..

Then I watched the first 2 episodes of Murdebot which, I didnt think I would like and I couldn't stop grinning.

Double fuck you Apple!

Fountain of Youth is just about the biggest piece of shit I’ve ever attempted to watch. I lasted 23 minutes, I have no idea how anyone stands Krasinski’s douche bag character for the full two-plus-hour runtime. What I saw was miscast, uninspired, ill-paced and boring. Portman must have really needed the money.

So, worse than The Gorge?

Not sure I have a good answer since I didn’t watch much of the Teller movie, but I suspect so.

I lasted longer with Fountain of Youth, but came to hate it quickly. I spent maybe only 10 minutes with The Gorge before getting bored. I actively hated FoY when I bailed.

I feel like that's pretty much the established gameplan for the big streamers.

"Let's pay two A-list or trending actors a shit ton on money to star in an actiony, big budget, comedy-adjacent movie with a D-level script."

"Should we check if they have chemistry first?"

"I don't give the slightest of fucks."

It's the Hallmark formula, except substitute A-list for former A-list or B-list/C-list, and Hallmark actually tries to make sure there is chemistry.

Either you don’t turn it on very often or aren't using other platforms. Its the lowest in qty of production by a pretty solid margin. I'll give them a good quality relatively speaking but there isn’t much of it.

Because Apple has a bazillion dollars. They can spend their money on exactly what they want. Apple TV, last I checked, is a huge loss for the company but they don’t care because everything else is a massive money maker

I wasn't challenge the why at all, just noting they don't create a lot of content. However, I do truly like most of the limited content they produce. Netflix, no so much.

I found nothing redeeming in FoY and that includes Natalie Portman. Go watch the GIF of her looking crazy hot at the Texas football game 15 years ago for a fix, you won’t get any satisfaction here.

We've been watching apple shows almost exclusively since we got it a little less than a year ago

But you're prob right.

Id like like to see that chart over the last few years only, given those other apps have been around way longer the totals make since

Don’t currently have Netflix, but Apple I’ve enjoyed Slow Horses, Silo, Shrinking, Friends and Neighbors, Studio, Severance, etc… over the last 6 months.  They basically always have something I’m watching and enjoy.   Does Netflix have anything comparable?

Fountain of Youth seems like a movie that all of the distributors passed on.  It's not entirely clear whether Apple was involved with Fountain of Youth from the beginning, though there were signs, as early director choice Dexter Fletcher and production company Skydance were involved in Apple TV+ "Ghosted."

IMO, they were smart to go direct to streaming, even with the $180mm budget.  Distribution, etc. costs can top $200mm-$300mm for a summer action film.  And they'd been pitted against: Minecraft, Mision Impossible, The New Avengers, another Jurassic Park, yet another Karate Kid, How to Train Your Dragon, F1, etc.  I honestly cannot see too many people paying $12+ to sit through that outside of their house.  The trailers were mediocre, the movie was bland.

Agree with the takes here on the movie.  Around 20 minutes in, I had a similar thought to those above: this seems bad, but it has to get better, right?  Nope.  I watched the entire thing.  It is definitely worse than MineCraft, Mission Impossible, and The New Avengers (I have seen all of those).  I suspect it will also be worse than F1 and Jurassic Park.

That all said, Apple needs to be careful about propagating too many stinkers.  It has gained credibility with Slow Horsses, F & N, Severace, etc.  I guess it has struggled with feature films...

Oh no, I wasn’t arguing with you. Just saying that Apple can do passion projects whether they succeed or fail bc Apple TV already is a loss for them and the rest of the business makes them a bazillion dollars.

Feel like the last good Netflix original series was Queens Gambit, they've shifted strategies since then
