CR: COVID-19 --Political Talk

The next school district over from me voted last night to mandate masks across the district. The vote was unanimous in favor of masks, while the asshats booed. Then an asshole flashed a nazi salute as they stormed out.
This is primarily an affluent, old money Pittsburgh neighborhood.
Vote at 1:30:20, nazi salute at 1:31:30.

Our school board meets tomorrow. Should be fun (sad).
Yinz have a lot of racist white trash.

I can't think of anything more Christian than menacingly spitting out Bible verses at someone giving an honest opinion in hopes of limiting disease and death.

Jesus and the Virgin Mary would be right in the front, red-faced and threatening.

In this illustration, my friends, we are the cat watching our world.

Big hearty, "Fuck unvaccinated people." Just got my test back—Covid positive.

For those curious I'm: J/J back in April. Since last Th night I've felt like I had a bad cold. Warm but not feverish. Congested nose but no shortness of breath. No loss taste. Cough was minimal, just clearing out phlegm after taking DayQuil/mucinex. General lethargy.

On the upside, actually feeling better today. Slowly feeling normal again so thank vaccine for working like it's supposed to!  But still, fuck those unvaccinated idiots.

Since you started having symptoms last Thursday, and didn't test positive until Tuesday, and your symptoms are improving with no fever, does that mean you only have to quarantine for 4-5 days?

Curious who you or others would accept as authorities on this?     Who could give you an answer that you would readily accept, especially if it went counter to what you had heard from other sources?

It’s almost as hypocritical as comparing something with a 100% death rate to something that has greater than a 99% survival rate. Good to know you’re pro life!

Dumb ass.

How fucking dumb are you?  I’m not getting in a pro life v pro choice debate but I think the point Penelope was making is that if someone is arguing they have the right to do what they want with their body like not taking a vaccine then that applies to having the right to have an abortion also.  Now, and I know this will go above your head, but the vaccine issue affects the entire world and the abortion affects just the person having it and their family.

Not to doubt you, but I’ve had a very lot of not fun medical shit up my nose (ulcerative colitis with end result my colon was removed) so I’ve had the nasogastric tube 4 times - initial one step surgery, emergency surgery for blockage and give me the colostomy bag, takedown of the colostomy bag and hook me back up to my ass, and then another blockage. The only time I had a feeding tube was IV prior to and after the emergency surgery, and it was in my neck/shoulder. So this would be a different kind of feeding tube than what I had? This was 20 years ago and I was completely out of it most of the time so I don’t remember the exact location, but I know it wasn’t my nose. I’m vaccinated, so hopefully I do not need to look forward to yet another tube up my nose. I had good docs who were kind and semi sedated me while sticking the NG up there (swallow!). Taking it out wasn’t much fun either.

What you were getting is called TPN—total parenteral nutrition— and it requires central venous access (meaning the IV you had ended juuuuust before the opening the the right atrium of your heart in your superior vena cava). It's basically the "chemical" or IV form of food, and is used when your body isn't able to process solid/liquid food in your stomach/small intestine properly.

Are you sure it was the docs who put the tube up your nose? Big ups to them if so. Normally they're too scared to throw an NG tube in if the pt isn't under general anesthesia and they leave it to the nurses 😉

Huh?  Those are the CDC guidelines as I understand.  As his symptoms first appeared 5-6 days before his positive test, I would assume he only has 4-5 days of quarantine left.

https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/if-you-are-sick/quarantine.html

I think or know I had COVID-19, and I had symptoms

You can be around others after:

  • 10 days since symptoms first appeared and
  • 24 hours with no fever without the use of fever-reducing medications and
  • Other symptoms of COVID-19 are improving*

Honestly, im totally in on that if someone puts numbers to it. Trump flags are over, this is in. We jest on the board about not taking advantage of the grift, but this is the move. Will make a killing selling these outside of school board meetings or on the side of roads in small towns.

Your post got me thinking about New Hampshire ("Live Free or Die" is famously their motto), and they even have a higher population % of vax than California at 58.8% versus 53.7%! Texas is at 44.6% btw...

You’re still literally killing someone in the process. It’s a dumb comparison to make. I could see not taking the vaccine and taking the risk of getting hospitalized vs having unprotected sex and risk getting pregnant. Both have consequences and risks, and are both choices. Problem is…dead baby doesn’t get a word in it. Does dead covid patient get a word? Did they FAFO? Were they unable to get vaxxed?

Antimasker Ted Cruz sends his kids to a private school with a mandatory mask policy

Oddly enough, Cruz's children don't attend public school. They attend a tony private school in Houston, which requires masks regardless of government rules around Covid, or lack of them.   I name the school, but here's a screenshot of its face coverings policy, which states, "Due to the current situation in our community, all persons on campus will be required to have a face covering."

I like how you automatically assume everyone agrees with you that any fetus is viable life.    We don't.   And just add abortion to the list of distractions amped by the ultra wealthy to keep us from paying attention to what they are doing.   At least they have you fooled.

This.

No matter how stupid or awful their decisions, they defend them all with some version of “but ‘bortion!” There’s nothing they won’t rebut with that. We could be adding about improving dam infrastructure, and that would be the counter argument.

Uh no, you're not, but I'm not going to derail this thread with the "abortion kills people" argument.

Maybe you should go back to the DT threads where your poorly thought out hot sports opinions won't be exposed.

Yep. There are millions upon millions of single-issue ('bortion) Republicans in this country that will go along with any other odious platform gets squeezed in all in the name of being anti-'bortion.

So can somebody please explain to me how we got to ivermectin, a medication used almost exclusively to combat intestinal parasites in animals (mostly horses), being used as a prophylactic measure for COVID? My in-laws, who are otherwise smart and well-educated, were told by their voodoo/new age doctor to come get ivermectin pills from him after their housekeeper tested posted back in the spring. (They get cold laser treatment from this guy.) The one hygienist that hasn't had COVID or gotten vaccinated uses ivermectin in paste form. It's bizarre AF and I want to know how this came about.

There is SOME basis to believe that it may have spent efficacy as an early intervention after infection. Not good, solid, information, but it may be true. That said….even if true, it’s not a miracle “cure,” and there’s certainly no evidence that it is that. In that respect, it’s not different than monoclonal antibody therapy, which also helps but isn’t a magic bullet.

People are desperate to find a reason to justify not taking a path that has proven efficacy - vaccination - so they’ll latch onto any possible “cure” to do that.

People are saying drinking a milkshake of rat poison and battery acid is very effective at preventing disease.  ALL DISEASES!! NO ONE WHO HAS TAKEN THIS MEDICATION HAS EVER CONTRACTED ANY DISEASE.

Now there is a slight issue with fatal poisoning, but come on...dont be a pussy.

Yea this is a rabbit hole for another day. I acknowledge there’s health risks in abortions for the mom that they need to abort the baby. If there’s a one night stand resulting in pregnancy in an otherwise perfectly healthy mom? Well I guess that’s where we disagree

Given how last year went with regard to schools and attendance/ in-person/ virtual; I have a problem with people fighting the mask mandate for kids.

The absolute priority for society in general right now is that the 2021-22 school year be as close to 'normal' as possible.  The mask thing is such a stupid hill to die on; and if this gets fucked up because of it or gives 'the other side' an out as far as not having school again, it's gonna be a huge ass price to pay down the road.

I know none of that matters when compared with political victories.

Maybe those docs and nurses should take a leave and offer their services where they are wanted.

If I was just a bit more immoral and had some high level MAGA connections, this would be my scam:   "Conservative Health Hosp Inc."   .   We don't hire "medical professions" .  We don't believe in liberal concepts like "germ theory", "sanitary technique"  or "science".   No required handwashing, gloves or masks during your procedures!   No sir, your medical care at our intuition will be based on the latest QNan and Facebook cures of the day,  and whatever is on sale at Tractor Supply.   Mostly your healing will involve prayer (after the collection plate is passed) and watching your wife clucked by large, well hung minorities.   Cash/credit card only and no socialism such as compassionate care or discounts.

I was in New Hampshire for two weeks last month. Still have people out with Black Lives Matter signs and yard signs saying the same and urging tolerance. Particularly impressive as you don't see a lot of color in that state outside of the autumn leaves.

There were Trump signs, too, but these small towns and villages are generally really behind making America better.

Do you seriously think there is a side that is looking for an "out" to keep kids at home and not back for in-person schools? Almost every parent is desperate to get their kids back in school if at all safely possible.

You'd be surprised.  Plenty of folks look for excuses for little Johnny or Juanita not to be there.  Some are parents, some are teachers unions.

21-22 school year needs to happen in the most serious way.
