There are plenty of reason to take issue with the source material, but the specific issue was with Last of Us 2.

For the record, the so called incels absolutely loved the first game.

You had an entire game based around a man whose world crumbled around him when his daughter and wife died. He continued finding a way to survive in a zombie infested world. Not shockingly after losing his family and in a zombie world be became hard, jaded and was more than a little vicious.

For complex reasons he was entrusted with the life of a young girl, in fact saved her life. The woman who encouraged him died. He was left alone with a girl who was about the age of his daughter when she died.

Though it wasn't well painted in the TV series, Joel was gruff and offish early given his past. Over time, through lots of life threatening moments, he and Ellie slowly developed a stronger and stronger bond. She started really listening and respecting him and his heart opened up. He was healing. It was amazing to see the development. It was what was truly loved about the game. Her growing under his protection and him healing through her.

Then in the second game, early in, he's killed. Bam!

  Hide contents

Not only that he was killed by the daughter of someone he killed while saving Ellie.

But wait that's not all folks.

Then you had to play the character that killed the man players came to love.

But WAIT there's more still...

After playing the character that killed the protagonist players loved in the first one, you go back to being Ellie.

And...

Then...

Players don't even get revenge.

It left players empty and angry. Joel was shit on, then his memory shit on, and the very person that brought him love again, you know, the one he saved....

Didn't fucking avenge him.

But yeah, its all because she was gay and every person that played the second game and didn't like it because they are incels.

Get new material. That line of bullshit is tired.

I stated that incels hate the show, but they also hated the source material. I didn’t say that everyone that hated the game was an incel.

Maybe you should reflect on why you took my comment so personally.

Actually what you stated was:

Nah, the incels hated the source material too

Which presupposes that anyone who hates the show, hated the game and they are all incels. Love that you go to semantics rather actually discussing the plot issues in the game, which was, gasp, the real issue not a lack sexual exploits. But.. that requires actual thought and discussion and why go there when you can just paint a broad, tired, overused, simplistic, ignorant, immature and derogatory generalization.

Are you...are you saying that fans of TLOU video games were not all aware that Ellie is gay?

I am not. I was agreeing with you, I thought.

Burnt, is it seriously your contention that fans of the TLOU games were not all aware that Ellie was gay?

Lulz, no and I'm confused why you think I am.

I read your post the way you intended. Not sure where wildcat got turned around.

Also not sure which one of you is the actual incel.

What's that saying about running into assholes all day? Maybe it's the same for incels....

There have been plenty of reasonable criticisms about the pacing, the writing, and the likeability/believability of the characters within this thread. The incel stuff has been mostly reserved to people upset that Ellie isn't as attractive as a 14 and 19 year old video game character, people bringing "gender politics" into the discussion, and people using "Top reddit commentators" as a reference point.

More often than not, when someone responds online to a post with "lulz no" it's to express disagreement. Re-reading it though, I can see how you were just answering the question.

When I’m talking about incels I’m talking about Helobious/Rage and the Reddit posts they bring over for no reason other than to support their incel opinion, to be clear. The show has other issues for sure.

I thought it was fine. I am not shocked that I read this thread 4 days later and people are complaining about how unrealistic shit in the zombie show is.

What I am curious about is if somehow Ellie is passing her immunity to the fetus via rigorous scissoring. (Non video game player)

It’s not meeting its own standard from S1. I didnt start watching this show to watch a Walking Dead reboot.

^ Same here. I think TWD got so bad, and I stayed with it so long, that it hastened my abandonment of this series. There's probably some really good parts happening, given the acting and cinematography, but not worth enduring even 1-2 weekly scenes that are TWD redux

TWD was never very good to begin with. People watched it because TV series were starting to have a breakout moment, the zombie genre had not been done in TV yet, and AMC had earned some respect from MM and BB. But it basically sucked from the start. Zombie fighting was central to the show because the human characters were generic and boring.

TLOU was very good in season 1, and I think Craig Mazin did well when he deviated from the source material - see: S1E3 One Good Day. Neil Druckmann has also been a solid director. It exists in a world with zombies that sometimes create problems, but tries to be much more focused on human character development and interactions.

Everyone who heard anything about the games has probably heard that games 2-3 were not as well received as game 1. Having now seen the death of Joel, I think most of us can understand why. I’ve also heard some reviews that the story remained very good, so hopefully that will be the case for the remainder of the TV series.

So despite sharing a genre, I don’t think the comparisons between TWD and TLOU are fair. The former was a sloppy show with bad acting that meandered for 11 seasons (seriously?!) with no clear direction and lots of gotcha bullshit moments. The latter is a compact story based on specific source material that is scheduled for 3 seasons, with overall good acting and production value, currently in a season 2 transition period after losing one main character.
